Do any of the rescuers out there have a contact in Missouri? I don't think there is a very active group here. Joplin is in southwest Missouri and is probably a little over an hour and a half from Tulsa, OK.
About a week ago three of us received an email about those girls. Since we are in the south, I had asked the other two rescues if they could help and one rescue near MO said they would take the girls, so I did not worry.
Well looks like they did not. South East has no way of helping because all our fosters have dogs and I don't have anybody near MO or transport to bring them down.
We just picked up two puppy mill girls out of MO and it cost us a furtune.
They were taken to AR to the vet and they charged us $1700.
$300. each for spay the rest was for boarding since I could not find a transport. Would you believe, while there they never gave them their shots. SO now on top of everything else I have to take them to my vet for shots and they had an ear infection.
We are getting Teddy today and I will pick one up in Chattanooga.
It has been a bad year, lots of dogs and nobody to adopt them.
Maybe after the summer is over it will pick up.
We love to help those girls, but how? Looks like somebody just tossed them beside the road. People will go to hell for this, these are God's creatures.
It is so frustrating.
I spoke with the shelter and these three girls are said to be sweet. They are all said to be strays and appear at a glance to be young. The shelter is
planning to have them groomed next week. Two of them are microchipped
but unfortunately the chips cannot be traced.

If anyone hears of an OES rescue that can assist these , please let me know.
NO... I will not be changing my screen name to 9Girls  but I might be
able to help a little.
Ingrid it's frustrating but you are making a difference to the ones you can get to. I know that feeling all too well and try to remind myself that the ones I do help, it makes a difference.

Still it sickens me about how animals are viewed as throwaways by so many in our society. Sadly, it never ends.

I'm hoping someone will come through for these girls.

Marianne
I contacted the shelter and learned that they just went up for adoption -- Yay!! :clappurple:
This really makes me sad because dogs out there are hardest to get to....

So what are the chances that dogs found in Missouri where there is no rescue will be transported to other states like NC?
Does it depend on transportation?
I just talked to Jim Spurling,KY rescue, and he got in touch with them and he is going to pick them up and both of us are working on foster homes.
So I am not sure if that is what they ment or if somebody really adopted all three? If so, I hope they went to homes that know OES, this always worries me. The shelters let them go to anybody and then months later
they are dumped again. This happens all the time.
well we will find out.
I'm in Oklahoma City....Joplin is only a little more than three hours away. I would be happy to help foster or even adopt one, although I don't know the person you're talking about or how to get in touch with him.

I could go there tomorrow.
I just spoke with both Jim and Dee at the Joplin shelter... I just got off the phone with Dee.

Jim asked me to call and tell her that you (Ingrid) and Jim would assist these three girls and that Jim would be calling later to arrange transport. They are now in the process of shaving them down... she said they wouldn't be pretty but they'd be much cooler :D Yay! She said the one being shaved down now was pretty skinny and has been put on Cephalexin for a nasal discharge.

I'll PM you in a minute Ingrid.

When Dee mentioned that "Val" had emailed I just knew it was you!
Thanks so much for helping with these girls, Val. :D

Ingrind- Just to clarify...
Dee said they "just WENT UP for adoption"... they have not been adopted.
Please let him know about my offer - if he's interested, I can PM you my phone number. Thanks!
Thanks for the clarification. I thought that meant that they had been adopted. . . I'm glad they are getting help!

I am confused, why can't they be traced?
Isn't that the whole purpose of micro-chipping?
I think this means the microchips were implanted but never registered to anyone. It seems they would be able to trace them back to a particular vet, shelter or rescue but it would then depend on how well these groups kept records of who got the implants and who they belonged to.

I received some of Panda's previous paperwork when we adopted her from NEOESR almost 2 years ago. I noticed on her papers from the New Jersey shelter (where her previous owner had adopted her from) had an MC notation so I called them. They told me she was microchipped and the name of the chip mfr. so I called them. They explained she had been microchipped but no one ever took time to actually register her. We were able to simply submit our information without any fees.
I did not register Lacey. The place that did it says they have all the numbers registered to them and can find it that way.
Should I register her with Avid too?

My OES are both registered with Avid.

I don't get why the microchipping process can't be a one step thing. I paid to do the implant and then they sent me home with a form that I had to fill in & mail along with check to register it. Maybe someone can develop some type of process to make this a little easier. Maybe the people who had the chipping done didn't realize the extra step or maybe the application got lost in the mail?

Good luck with the girls. I hope you find homes for them soon. Thank you for rescuing them.
I'm glad to see these girls are going into rescue! I was so worried about them!!

So, I have a question. With all do respect, what is up with OES rescue in Missouri? I know there are people listed as rescue contacts in Missouri but it seems like all the dogs found in Missouri have to go to a rescue group in another state. Why is that?

*Please note I'm not trying to offend anyone. I think it takes a lot to be involved in rescue and I know there are a lot of behind the scenes things that are taken care of....I'm really just curious*

Tasha, I think everyone involved in rescue has had contact with dogs from Missouri because of the number of puppy mills. Where most states have a single dog end up in rescue, Missouri has entire litters at one time.

Most OES rescues use foster homes rather than having their own shelter and it's difficult finding good people willing to take in a rescue. The best way to save the dogs is to move them to a state where there is also a greater demand for the breed.
I received an email about a week ago about those girls.
I had asked a rescue up north if they could help and they told me "Yes"
they would take the girls.
Obviously they did not? So why did they not get in touch with me?
We, South East, are loaded with dogs, nobody is adopting right now.
I hope once the summer is over people will adopt again.
Anyway, we can always make room for another, we HAVE to.

I have 5 with Avid chips too. I'd contact Avid and ask them if your contact information is or can be included in Lacey's contact info.

http://www.avidmicrochip.com/answer.htm

My pet already has an AVID chip. How can I get him registered in the AVID network for lost pets? How can I change his registration?
Please contact PETtrac directly calling them at (800)336-2843. They will answer all of your questions and/or send you an application.

There was an interesting note on the Avid website...
http://www.avidmicrochip.com/contact.htm
It indicated that the AKC had begun to distribute microchips that were on different frequencies than Avid and could NOT be scanned with the Avid or HomeAgain scanners... it requires a SPECIAL scanner to pick up the frequency  You would REALLY think that before bringing a new chip in that they would have had the common sense to check this out since most shelters use these two scanners. The chip basically becomes useless if it can't be scanned... but people believe their pets are protected.
I just picked up a boy in Chattanooga and they microchipped him with
24PetWatch. You still have to register but it is free.
I just went on line and gave them the info they asked for, real easy and it is free.
do these girls still need help?

we might have room for them in chicago
Heather, you might want to contact Ingrid
directly to see if they need help. Thanks so
much for the offer of possible assistance.

I just got off the phone with Jim...
he's made arrangements with the shelter
to pick these 3 girls up this week.

All of you that transport for rescues are the
first important step to a homeless dog's new
life. A BIG thank you for volunteering to do
this important part of rescue. :D

And thanks SO much Ingrid for taking these
3 girls into rescue... they'll have a good
chance at a much better life. I heard that
2 of them have been shaved down now...
they'll need some weight put on them from
what I heard. Please watch for a note in
a little bit.

:clappurple:
Thanks to everyone who has been working to help these girls!! Ingrid, you're an angel...you know that right?!? I hope your load gets lighter soon.
I just spoke with Jim and he's heading home with the girls :D

He said the three are a mess but nothing a good bath and haircut won't take care of. They're skinny too. He mentioned one is shy and seems to depend on the other two... I think it was the little girl that has the sniffles. They appear NOT to have had a lot of attention. A much better life awaits them once they've been spayed and are ready for adoption.

A big thanks to Jim for pulling and transporting these girls.
that is great news i am sure ingrid needs a triple medal for this one .. jim thanks for the transport
