OES rescue in Georgia and South Carolina

I need to find rescues in my area. I am in Martinez, GA near Augusta. Does anyone know of one in this area?

Oh no! What happened? Anything with which we can help?

Our Rescue Contacts page lists 5 contacts for Georgia, including Dixie OES Rescue
My son, who is almost 4 turns out is highly allergic to dogs. He has asthma and has never shown any trouble around dogs with his asthma. He also has a disorder called Eosinophilic Esophagitis. It is related to allergies and food allergies and makes it where he cannot eat many foods at all. It also affects his skin in the form of very severe eczema. Not long after getting Teddy, his eczema got way out of control as well as his other Eos symptoms. We had a blood test done that showed the severe dog allergy. We had been on vacation and he was doing better but within a day of being home he got very sick and was admitted to the hospital. He is home now and recovering but we now feel more urgency in finding Teddy a home. We thought that when we got back that it would be alright to keep him until we found a home but are needing to do it much quicker than we anticipated. I have taked with a couple of people from the forum and am looking for all the help I can get. I am reluctant to place him on petfinder because I feel much less control over who inquires about him. If you have any info to help please let me know.
We love Teddy so much. He immediately became part of our family and it is very sad to have to give him up. We want the VERY best for him.
Oh this is so horrible. :( :(

You are right, you want your boy with an organized OES Rescue program that will have carefully screened any home and will try to find the best match for Teddy.

You should immediately notify Marie Harrington (if you haven't already) via PM here:

If there was someone in the area that might be able to foster for a bit, would that be helpful?
I'm sorry that you are having to place Teddy. I know it must be a heartbreaking decision for you. You are definitely doing the right thing by placing him in rescue. That way you know he will be placed in a quality home that has been thoroughly checked out.

Please contact Ingrid Thompson at www.oesrescuenetwork.org as she is now handling Georgia again.

If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
C'mon folks, we need to help the family and Teddy quickly!

Ingrid is Marvelous!

She is a member here too. Let me find her PM link:

OK! I have just sent her a private message!

I have sent a couple of emails to Marie, but one bounced and I haven't heard back yet on the other.
Thank you all for you interest and help. I am earnestly trying to figure this out for Teddy and my son.

I have just heard from Ingrid and sent a reply.

Thank you again. I will keep you posted.

Melinda and I have talked and Fiona, my contact in GA, she will meet with her on Sunday and we will take Teddy in our rescue.
I promised Melinda that I stay in touch and keep her informed about who will adopt Teddy.
I know how hard it is on her to let him go.
I make sure that the new owner keep in touch with her and send her pictures.
We have been able to make arrangements for Teddy. I will let you know how it all works out. We are hoping a family in the Atlanta area will be able to adopt him. That way we may be able to see him sometimes. Either way, we will keep in touch to know how he is doing. He is a very sweet boy and well behaved. He will do very well with a family that has at least one member who is able to be with him most of the time. He does well when left at home alone but sticks like glue to me when ever he can.
Thank you for helping us during this difficult time.
I am soooo sorry for your pain but happy that everything is going to be OK for all.

I don't know!
Thank you all for your support. Teddy went with Fiona in the Atlanta area and she is taking him to a foster family. He did very well going with her. I was relieved by that. Still, it was very hard to do. I have never had to do anything like this before. I know he will be happy and am so thankful to the OES rescue and Ingrid and Fiona for helping us make sure Teddy is in the right place and very well cared for. I know my son will feel much better soon too. That is a huge relief!

Keep me updated and I will check in to see how all the Sheepies are.

Dear Melinda,
Know that your boy, Teddy is in the very best hands with Ingrid & Fiona!
I am so sorry you had to make this very difficult choice.
You can be sure Ingrid will find him the very best home! I hope the new family will join the forum & keep us updated! :ghug:
Melinda - I just want to thank you for doing the right thing for Teddy! I know it had to be heartbreaking for you, but you can rest easy knowing he is in good hands and will be placed in a loving furever home. :D
Melinda -
I want to let you know that you did the right thing. I have a dog from a similar situation as what you are going through now.

My basset Simon is 8. I adopted him through a basset rescue 2 yrs ago. He originally belonged to a couple . They loved Simon very much. He was well taken care of, had basic obedience training, is well socialized with other animals and people of all ages.

Then they started their family and one of their kids had allergies. Basset Hounds are VERY much triggers for anyone with dog allergies. They decided to place Simon with a rescue, knowing that potential adopters would be well screened 1st. I was picked from a bunch of interested applicants.

Simon is a total joy. He is a total momma's boy and a lot of fun. He passed his CGC and Therapy Dog certification within 6 months of me getting him. He fits in with our family wonderfully. He even is turned show dog now - competing in rally obedience.

I am so grateful that Simon's 1st family cared enough about Simon to turn him over to a rescue. We all came out winners. And Simon is the lucky dog who has 2 families that have loved him. :D
I'm so glad you were able to get help with Teddy... He's so adorable! Does Teddy have a tail?!? I love the pics of the Sheepies with tails... it's so unusual and so cute :)
It sure is strange around here without Teddy, my shadow. I think Tybalt is adjusting alright. All the extra attention he is getting doesn't seem to bother him
Thank you to everyone for all the encouragement that keeps coming. You all are great.

Yes. Teddy has his tail. It is a lot different than other sheepies who don't. They are both adorable :!:
Jodie and I adopted Teddy a few weeks ago from the rescue in Atlanta and I was wondering if you knew his history. What we've heard from the rescue folks is an incredible tale and we'd like to hear more first-hand.

We're very sorry you could not be his forever home, but take heart as he's a wonderful addition to our family of five (three Sheepies and mom and dad).

We nick-named him Teddy G. Bones. The "G" is for "gangsta" because he has robbed out garbage can twice for chicken bones.
welcome and would love to see picks of him.. love is "G" ...
