Vacuum help

Since we all have big hairy dogs, I thought that maybe someone would be able to help.

Our vacuum isn't picking stuff up as well as it used to. It's not that old, either, maybe a little over 2 years. The arm thing works fine, so it's just the base part that isn't doing its job. We've checked for obstructions and hair and dust and anything that we can think of that might be clogging it, but there isn't anything.

Any suggestions?

I've gone through this with a few friends vacuums (my hubby spoils me, he got me a rainbow). The problems I usually have found are either a clogged filter on the back, or wherever your filter is, or possible a clog between the base and the bag or canister. I had to take a vacuum almost completely apart to get to THAT clog. It was a huge ball of....stuff. You might be able to run a wire coat hanger up through the opening in the bottom where the stuff gets sucked up to see if there is something there out of your line of vision. Good luck!!!
Yeah, my husband took it apart and did the wire hanger thing, and still only found a tiny clump of hair/dust, but it didn't make it better. Hmmm. I just don't want to have to get a new one!
I've had my vacuums apart frequently looking for clogs. First stop is the roller brush. Make sure dog hair or string isn't in the wheel bearings on the sides. Then up the tubes to the machine......which you've already done. Check for holes in the hose or disconnects if you have an upright. Clean the air filter if you have one. Also clean the outer bag if you have one....like the outer bag on the Oreck. If you are still having trouble, get down to the motor. Don't take it apart but look around it for dirt and hair. If you are still having trouble talk to a repairman. They will do all you've just done before they look at the motor. It may be worth your money to get a new machine
Husband said there were some small holes in that tube that is at the bottom of the vacuum. He tried to tape it up with electrical tape...Do you think this is the problem? And, can you get replacement hoses?
I'm sure you can get replacement parts, though I don't know how easy they are to install.
What about a vacuum repair place?
I would recommend taking it in to an repair place.
They'll let you know if it is worth it to fix it.
Has he checked the intake area behind the roller brush. That is where my evil Eureka would clog all the time.

You could always get a Dyson. I am still VERY MUCH in :hearts: with mine. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made.
Without seeing your machine, I can't comment how easily you could replace hoses. I had a Hoover I tossed because it was such a bugger to disassemble and reassemble. Orecks are a breeze to disassemble and reassemble........good thing for as many times as I've had to get in there.

Good call on behind the roller brush! I forgot about that. Once again, it's usually something easily removed.....watch which screws go where......I hate an extra screw when I'm done, LOL!

Tape should help with suction. I know my Rainbow it has a slide that covers and uncovers a hole on the wand to regulate suction so you don't eat the drapes. So a hole in a hose would be bad.

Second, or third.

Dyson is like driving a Rolls Royce, except you are in your living room picking up dust instead of chicks (or dudes, whatever your preference is).
I'm the queen of burning out vacuums, yes even a dyson went to vacuum heaven. Darn sheepie hair.

I have a hoover cat and dog vacuum now, it's brilliant and it is lasting with no problems.

My dyson which is suppose to come with a long guarantee well it also fell apart all the plastic thingys on it and to get it fixed was impossible. Could not find anywhere that services them or does warranty work on them. Never get another one ever again.
Hi I go through a vaccum 1 every 2 years they just don't last that long for me. I take them apart all the time - I think its kinda fun. I have 3 dogs Hershey who sheds so way much. It would be nice to own a Dyson..the guy in the commercial creeps me ou though
I think every wife should be waiting for their vacuum to go down as an excuse to get a DYSON! Helloo...... ;)
I have both a Hoover vacuum (not the self-propelled this time) and a built-in vaccumm system.
The old self-propelled was easy to use, but gummed up easily and stunk up the house with the burning rubber smell. And for some reason, that smell seemed to linger forever.

The built-in vaccum system is wonderful for tile or wood floors. The trick is to buy the vacuum/canister recommended for a house twice your size. So easy to use and does clog with dog hair. Just not as good on carpet.
Go DYSON Go DYSON! Go DYSON!

Is it bad I only read as far as "I think every wife should be waiting for their vacuum" :D ?

I kid. I kid.
Never heard of Dyson, but I have a Rainbow and love it! Have had it for at least six years, and NO problems. Handles the hair, dirt, dust from 6 OES and 6 birds with no problems. No bags to buy!!!
