Leaving in the morning.....

Tomorrow morning as soon as we get off ambulance duty we are loading the car with the pups and headed to SC for vacation and to see my Dad. The last couple years I have left Tasker home but have decided to take him this year. I weighed the stress of the trip and the heat with MY STRESS at leaving him in a kennel and decided to bring him along.

So at 6AM (I HOPE) we will start the 15 hour drive. With luck we will make it in one day, I hate to stop at a motel with the dogs.

This may be a sad trip as I think my Dad has decided to move to an assisted living community (he really isn't safe on his own) so most likely his house will be sold and this may be my last trip to Edisto. I grew up there and it's "home".

I've got a bag full of books and my knitting and hope to have some REAL relaxation before we get home my classes start. As usual will have limited internet access so hope to keep in touch.

She doesn't know yet........ the family is looking at it as an opportunity to GIVE HER THE BOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well, for goodness sake dont forget to bring your camera....it will be one of those ''priceless'' moments
Have a safe trip! Glad you can take your dogs with you.
Ginny, have a safe trip. Let me know if you need a break in Richmond! Barney and Tasker could meet! :D
Have a safe and good trip, Ginny!! :ghug:

Can't wait to hear about the "caretaker's" reaction!
Have a safe trip and as Darcy said bring your camera. Or buy one of the one time ones and use it. Good luck
Have a wonderful trip and enjoy!! :D
I wish I could be a fly on the wall when the caretaker gets the boat.
Thanks everybody....... it may not happen right away. This is the "investigation" trip. My Dad is starting to "see the light" but hasn't signed on the dotted line yet. I think we will need to keep things quiet so that the "rent free tenant" doesn't get wind of it and try to change his mind. It could be a very sticky situation.

My Uncle (my Dad's 90 year old brother) just moved to the same assisted living community. My Dad has visited a couple times and seems to like it. With his brother there I think he is more inclined to go. I would like nothing better than for my Dad to come here, to NY, and either live with me or nearby. But he's a stubborn old coot and doesn't want to leave SC, mostly he doesn't want to get too far from my Mom who is buried on Edisto :( The ALC is in Mt Pleasant SC, just outside Charleston and close enough to Edisto for my Dad's comfort. He's already made me promise that if he dies I'll make sure he get back to Edisto to be buried next to my Mom.

Old age is so sad!!
try to have a good time. i'm sure you'll be able to do what's best for your dad. We're dealing with the same thing with my paternal grandmother, and my live-in aunt who wants Grandma to sell her house, so Aunt can take the money and buy her daughter a house  Family politics sucks.

But hang in and I hope you get in some beach time with your fuzzies!!!! I'd love to visit SC some time :)
Have a wonderful visit with your Dad and drive safe
Have a wonderful and safe trip and I hope it all works out.

What ya knitting on the way?

hehehehehe, I'm taking a sweater that is almost done and then a new project called a CLAPOTIS, it's a "french inspired" scarf and I'm quite excited about it.

For the knitters out there:

Be safe...thinking of you always.
Have a safe trip and good luck with your Dad, I know how difficult that can be.
WOOHOOO!!!!!!! We made it!!! 15.5 hours 8O The traffic was amazingly light. The boys were good as gold, I could not believe it. Tasker sat in the back and never made a sound, Ty slept the entire way.

I was a little worried because neither would eat anything and drank very little water when we stopped but about mid afternoon we stopped for gas and got a cup of ice and they loved that. But both ate like pigs when we got here.

We pick my daughter up at the airport tomorrow, she is spending the first week with us, I can't wait to see her

It's HOT HOT HOT but the beach looks lovely. Unfortunately I've already heard it's a very bad year for jelly fish
Glad you made it safely, Ginny. :D Hope you have a nice quiet week visiting with your Dad & daughter. :D Look out for those jelly fish.
