How long in crate?

How old is your puppy/dog until they stop sleeping in the crate and sleep in your room or wherever free?

Many dogs prefer their crates even when they are older. As to getting used to a bit more freedom, I think it depends on the individual dog. I know mine prefers his crate. When he gets sleepy he goes right inside.
Clyde started spending the night with us around 5-6 months but stayed in his crate during the day until, I think, about 9-10 months. All 3 of my dogs have free run of the house while we're gone. Bear is the only one who ever showed any interest in actually using a crate as a "den" but he outgrew the crate we had too fast and he seemed just as happy sleeping in the bathroom. :D
My Bowie is 8 months and likes his crate as well. He goes right in when I say "beddie"..But he also likes to "spread out" when sleeping and I'm not sure he has that much room. We have the biggest crate available and it is huge but so is he!!

I don't mind him sleeping on the bed at all but I have one of those really high poster beds and I'm afraid he'll roll off during the night and hurt himself 8O Ha, maybe I should get one of thoe bed rails they ahve for kids
Bosley moved into our room to sleep around 4.5 months old. He was crated n my son's room, but woke him up early with his early morning whining. Once he slept in our room, uncrated, not a peep all night.

Bosley STILL does this, 2 years later...
I was just thinking the same thing. Fozzie has slept in the hall bathroom with Annie since he's been about 4 months old. He is still in his crate during the day, but this is more so that he doesn't drive Annie crazy. I have left him in the kitchen during the day while we are at work, but it's habit that he goes out for his last potty and then walks in the crate and waits for his treats.
Chewie is OK on the porch for nights and part of a day. He still really likes his crate though. At night he goes into it and puts himself to bed.

Part of the time he ends up on the porch to keep Riley and Maggie from playing too hard and ripping out his hair. They see him as one big jumbo sized chew toy!
Bailey is 2 1/2 years old. Although he has the run of the house now, we still keep his crate up and he uses it as his den for naps. We also travel a lot, and it's really helpful to be able to turn a hotel room into "home" for him. On our recent trip to Wyoming, every one of the other 4 dogs got complaints about barking - but not Bailey. Whenever we left the room he would just nap in his crate! :hearts:
