Humidity

It's 100 degrees here and the humidity is 45% 8O . It's so sticky I don't want to do anything!

Normally we have such low humidity that 110 degrees feels like 90.

its 99 degrees, 32% humidity and 62% dewpoint....

im sticky AND sweaty.....

here is a clip from the paper:

A big cleanup continues at a Valley Safeway where the roof caved in during yesterday heavy downpour.

The building houses Safeway, a US Bank branch and a Starbucks coffee bar.

All are closed indefinitely as crews have worked through the night bagging debris from the storm and piling it up outside.

At least 50 shoppers and workers were evacuated.

The damage occurred about 20 feet inside the entrance of the store in a heavy traffic area, but no one was hurt.

and now my safeway roof collapsed....closed for a few weeks....i missed seeing the drama by 2 hours....
45 humidity? that's nothin for MN summers. We're at 65-70 humidity most days. Bleah sticky yuck. But our summers don't last long, and it's something to look back on when it's -20!

stay in the A/C!

I know I'm a humidity lightweight! -20 Now that's something I probably would not survive. In general I LOVE the heat. Just not used to the sticky part I guess.

Darcy, I'm glad you missed the drama! Glad no one was hurt.

We've been having rain showers sporadically too with another front on the way.
I think they say that dewpoints around 60% are "sticky" and 70% are "oppressive" here in the summer. It's usually about 90 degrees and 70% when it feels heavy here.

Hre's our current forecast from a local TV station:
Quote:
Tonight
Stuffy and warm. Few high clouds with lots of moonlight. Upper 60s to low 70s - warmest downtown. Light southwest breeze.

Friday
Another sizzler! More humid as well. Upper 80s to low 90s. Hazy sun.

Saturday
Not as hot, but just as humid. Lots of clouds and haze. Shower or a thunderstorm possible in the afternoon. Low to mid 80s.

Sunday
Still some hazy sun possible - but you can count it with the minute hand. Lots of clouds and showers/downpours. Upper 70s to low 80s. Muggy, muggy, muggy.

Monday
Still some more showers. Pretty sticky. Upper 70s.

Tuesday
Morning clouds and fog - and another shower- then sunshine returns along with drier air. Upper 70s.
Ick.

Stuffy and warm? I guess you know it's miserable when the weather is described as stuffy.

What are dewpoints?
The temperature at which the atmosphere can no longer hold more water vapor. If the temperature drops to the dewpoint, it can get foggy as the water vapor starts to become fine droplets, and it just feels wet.

The air temperature usually can't drop much below the dewpoint overnight, as the water content of the air keeps the temps up, too. (I would guess that has to do with phase change, but I'm not sure.)

Of course the name dew point also refers to dew -- if the surface temp of the grass is lower than the dewpoint, ummmm... dew forms.

I think.
Thanks Ron. Always knew you were smart.
I'm dying back in Florida - do we have a melting icon? :phew:
We had thunder and lightning last night, but no rain. :(
Just nasty humidity. The only nice thing about it is that it has been in the low 100's like 105 and it's normally between 114-120 this time of year.
I melt instead of baking now. I'd rather just bake.... at least no sweating is involved. I hate sweating. Oh wait... I'm a woman, I don't sweat, I perspire.
Is the car fixed?
Our humidty today 83%
Lightweights! We're at 67% right now and it doesn't even feel what I'd consider anything more than kind of stuffy. It's the kind of weather that wrecks your hair but it's not too bad otherwise. You know, Michigan weather. :D
 I had the same reaction as iriskmj, but then again I complain about it being hot at 70 here.

We're from around Houston where humidity is 70-95% humidity DAILY at times!!!!! I HATE humidity and would love to be living anywhere with less than 70%.

No, it won't be done until tomorrow afternoon. :(
So I have to drive Dad's Minivan home and I'll come back Sunday to get my car.
