A water trail....

Do any of you have any sheepies that are REALLY messy drinkers???? Or perhaps just love to lay in or around the water bowl...??

Matisse loves to lie down and stick his whole mouth and neck into the water bowl. Sometimes he drinks, and other times he uses the waterbowl as leverage to rest his head. When he's done he decides to leave a nice big puddle all over the tile floors. You can see exactly where he goes and where he's been. There is a clear line of water, like a trail all over the place. If we're lucky we even get some paw print shapes on the tiles.....LOL
We're constantly changing socks in this house, and we go through 8-10 hand towels a day to wipe his mouth. He's a messy boy!!

It's worth it only because of the way he looks at us when he's done drinking..... it's almost like a baby with chocolate all over their face...it's priceless!!

The funniest part....He loves to run around and slide on it when he realizes the floor is slippery (trying to get it on video).

:D HAHAHA! Sounds like my house! Fozzie is a very messy drinker and Annie is a very messy ice chewer. I don't know if you remember, but when Foz was a pup he would stick his entire face in his bowl and make blowing bubble noises. Then he'd whip his head out and water flew all over the place. He still does this if a piece of food or ice in his bowl. Therefore, I don't put ice in his bowl. Cracks me up!
lol....i am sooo lucky....i have a princess that licks gently off of the side of the bowl....no wet beard, no slop :D
Izzie isn't usually too messy. Occasionally she will dunk her chin in and then start drinking normally...so then we get a huge puddle/trail when she is done
Clyde is a normal drinker but if we're anywhere but home, Bear will take couple of drinks, flip the bowl over with his paw and plop down in the muddy puddle that he made. We call it Bear's air conditioning.
Eggbert is a super messy drinker...the weird thing is...hes shaved down now, and STILL leaves a trail of water from the bowl! I had assumed it was a long beard thing! :? I guess he's just a slob

Sometimes Izzie appears to be able to hold some water in her mouth...step away from the bowl...and release the water all over the place....maybe this is what Bert does :D
^^^^^^^

kinda like food? panda will eat a handful of food then dump it out right next to her bowl....then eat each one individuallty :?
I know the jaws on some dogs (where their gum line is) skin is looser, and on others the skin on the gum line is tighter....

So....when they drink water, some dogs are naturally messy while others don't have that problem at all....

Matisse loves to go swimming in his water bowl, and LOVES just being messy....I hate to say it, but I REALLY hope it's a phase.

Walking around with wet socks half of the day isn't cool...lol
That is so cute. Matisse sounds like so much fun!

Barney is a HORRIBLY messy drinker. Not only does he LOVE his water, he somehow gets more water on his beard than in his belly...

He'll go in to drink, then walk away and there is a definite trail behind him  At that point he usually heads over to the couch to rub his face along the cushions to dry himself off

OH MANN!!!! Luckily we havent had that yet....But we've had the "leg wash" where he'll walk up to you if your sitting down and place his sopping wet mouth on your lap....He will then procede to shake his head before he walks away....Doesn't happen every day, but it does happen. I can't help but go "BLLLGGHHGHGHGHGHGHH"

That dish towel is never far behind!!
He is sooo funny!!!

That's exactly what Lucy does. She is sooo messy!! We'll have big puddles on the floor by the water dish and then the dribble trail. We keep dish towels handy and wipe her face but if your not quick you'll either get a wet beard (not that she really has one at this point) on your lap or she'll rub her face on the furniture or THE WALLS. 8O
When we were inc college, my future husband's sheepie lived with his parents. She was an outside dog. 8O Her beard was green and slimmey in the summer. She made a much prettier inside sheepie.

My son's dog likes to empty the water bowl to make a slip-n-slide. She loves it. The floors stay clean though.

LMAO

My crew are not very messy. But I always get a wet beard on my lap.
Beauford is a very messy drinker, not only does he leave a trail but he always runs to my 17yo and wipes his face on her. It has gotten to the point where Cheyenne must be jealous of the attention he gets over the beard wiping etc that last night I caught her dribbling a trail into the living room. Like someone else said in another post, dont tell me these dogs arent smart!!!! LOL

I always wondered if this was true. I figured Jo has "loose lips" because she is a messy messy drinker (food often falls out of her mouth as well). Ro, on the other hand, is so dainty but that hasn't always been the case. Sometimes we put ice cubes in the water and you can hear this *PLOP* when she would be dunking for ice. She'd walked into the living room from the kitchen (where the water is) and her whole face would be dripping. It was cute the first time, but after that it just got to be a pain so ice only goes on the deck now. Baby Z likes to put his feet in the bucket which is horrible in the house (esp. when he knocks the whole thing over!) but we're working on that.
Fergus is a total slob! I think he has a droopy mouth from poor breeding. He is constantly wet, especially his front legs, which are usually a brownish orange, my poor guy. I bought him oversised bandanas that act as a bib & change it daily. It helps somewhat.
I also have lots of washable throw rugs or beach towels on the floor (not exactly House Beautiful :)
Anyway Miccie, heres a hint GET SOME SLIPPERS, how about boots :) :) :)
how funny derby did the same think till i got a raized water bowl helped alot but he is still a dribbler
Messy is an understatement for Tessie. The big puppy paw has to go in the dish before she drinks. If she were human she'd be a "sloppy drunk".
Peppers VERY messy wiht his water! He insists on "testing" it out before drinking. I.E-putting his big ol' paw in the bowl first. Oh and not gracefully. Plumping it in there. Slamming it down. Water splashing all over the kitchen floor! I don't know why he does it!?! Seeing if its the right temperature, maybe? Smart dog! lol

Then even though he always has fresh water-ne chance at a open toilet-first one there b4 i can catch him! Yucky, algae pond- **me running* to hold him back from it lol

Probaly his funniest thing he does. I need to reed this whole post though. To see if other sheepies do this too...

****EDIT***-Just read the above users post-OMG-Does the same thing as my sheepie! Is it a sheepie thing lol? I've never seen a dog do that! It kills me though! Interested in hearing your response!

And he is always wet somnehow! I see others feel this way too lol! And of course-you know what his fave trick is? The damn paw in my hand. I don't know why! He learned it for one afternoon. I thought it was a cute trick. Never purposely re-inforced it. But he remembered that trick for some reason. Won't ever do the others for ne1 but me! Makes me look like a poor trainer, I must say! And he must think its goina get him something. Bc he is constantly giving me his paw. And its always soaked from "testing" the water bowl. Or whatever else that little booger is into-u never know with him! Just always a soaked sheepie I have!
Rheba is a MESS! I think that she fills her mouth with water then looks for the perfect place to drop it. Typically it is across the hall and into the kitchen. It's usually on the tile, so it's easy to clean up. She absolutely hates the fact that we are always grabbing her head to wipe her face. Life's rough (or ruff!) I have a dream...learn how to drink water!
I thought messy wet mouth was part of the OES standard. :?

I think that this is what I really like about this forum, you find out that you are not alone. Bella will walk up to the water bowl drink a littke, getting her whole face wet and then step in the bowl. Thank goodness for Pergo floors they are easy to clean. The other part of the trick is that after the drink she will come over and lay her head in my lap. She really loves to do this right before I go to work. (May be she's teaching me that I shouldn't get dressed before breakfast?)
