puppy cut

I had a quad accident hurt my arm and leg. So have problems brushing my oes. And do that matts start fast. So i cut her hair around 3" I just could not shave her. Not to bad and I can brush her alot easier I hope. But she had a tail what do I do with that  I'm not wanting to cut it. :?: Also it I shave her if matts do keep coming. What is the longest I can cut her. She can get her matts out but with my arm bummed out not sure if I can keep up is the problem. Plus no groomer in the town I live in 2 hours away from where there is one and 6 plus weeks to get pet in there to see one.

Is there anyone else in your house that could help with the grooming? I started grooming sheepdog's when I was about 9 years old (of course, they always got a second look to make sure I'd gotten all the mats out, but still).

Keeping your dog cut short while you recover will help a lot. You may want to try calling the groomer that you spoke of an explain the situation. I'm sure there are cancellations and if the groomer knows that this won't be an ongoing thing and the dog will only be in a few times they may be more willing to work with you or recommend a groomer closer to you that might help out.

Only very recently have I seen an OES with a tail (the OES at Crufts had a tail this year) so I've never actually had to groom one or deal with one (and though I know it's not "breed standard," I must admit that your puppy looks adorable with a tail). Growing up we had a Borzoi who obviously had a tail and a hairy one at that. I would think that grooming it daily with a brush (rather than a comb) would keep it pretty well maintained until you can get back to it. Also, if you have someone else in your house who can help out with the grooming they could keep the tail in good shape.

Good luck with your dog and your recovery!
Three inches is not very short, so you will still have a lot of grooming to od....and it grows fast.

This is Bosley with a trimmed tail. I just cut it the same length as the rest of him.

Oh Bosley looks adorable....nice job Nicole!
I love Bosley’s tail trimmed, looks great! We shaved Angus and left all the hair on his tail long, we couldn’t figure out if we should cut it the same length as the rest of him. It doesn’t look as bad now that the rest of his hair is starting to catch up. He looked a little odd for the first month with a shaved body and a puffy tail. Next time I think we will shave it all the same length now that we have seen another sheepie with a shaved tail.

It looks like his tail is pinned on!!!!

I'm still thinking of shaving shoulder now very sore. Had to take day off work(hairdresser) So next day or two will tell. The dogs are being very good and laid back. Took pain meds went back to bed till 12:00 8O And my oes let me sleep she usually wants me up a 8:00 no matter what. She just wants pets and treats of course and away she goes. THank god for doggy doors and good weather
