Bob is going to a new stable

Bob the Wonder Pony has lived at the same barn for 19 years (this must be a record). Violet, the manager, takes such wonderful care of all the horses and I've never had to worry about him. However, the owner (a rich man in his 80s) sold off the surrounding property to developers last year who tore up the fields and destroyed our trails. Now the developers aren't developing. The pastures are nothing but weeds. The arenas aren't maintained. The owner won't fix anything because he doesn't believe things need maintenance. There is no place to ride. And Violet can't do anything about this. I hit the wall the other day and found a very nice barn for Bob to move to. I'm confident that he'll get good care there. I'm excited but incredibly sad. I cry every time I tell someone we're moving. You see, the barn is my home away from home. I'm there almost every day. And Bob has lived there 19 out of his 22 years!

So it's a huge change for both of us (but he doesn't know yet). And I guess all change is scary and sad. I really hope I get past the stage of crying every time I think about this!

He will be fine!!

We moved horses to another yard after 16 years and to seemed to give them a new lease of life!! They loved it!!

Bob - I love the name for a horse!!

Good luck!
It sounds like you are making a great decision for Bob! I bet he will love his new barn. It is a shame that the old place has gone downhill but wonderful that you were able to find him a nice new home (that will become your new second home). Change can be scary but it can also be unexpectedly fabulous. I say Hooray for Bob's new home!!
That is sad news, but maybe a hidden opportunity.
It does sound like no good was coming from leaving him at his current stable.
As long as he gets good care and you still see him everyday, he will probably not mind at all. I know our boys wouldn't care, as long as they got their love and attention!
Oh bummer! It's always a pain to have to change stables, but it sounds like you made the right decision. It'll be tough getting used to a new place, and a new herd for Bob! I really hope you like your new stable and all of the fellow borders!!!
There are only 16 horses (Bob will be number 17) and about 12 of those are geldings so Bob will be in a smaller herd. He's kind of a loner and keeps to himself but will go pester someone when he needs to be entertained. I've met about 5 of the other boarders and they all seem nice. It will just be so weird (so wrong, in a way) to go to a different barn.
Best of luck to Bob and you :D
Maybe your departure will cause Violet to find a new place and then you could follow her.

Be sure to tell her that ... and that she SHOULD call you if it happens :(
Ron, Violet and I and other boarders (a very select group) have talked about finding a place to lease or buy and have Violet as manager. We've been looking for over a year and nothing has turned up. We're all still friends outside the barn relationship so we'll be in constant communication. And I wouldn't hesitate to follow Violet! But for now she can't remedy the current situation. And I need a place to ride and Bob needs a pasture to graze.
I hope Bob will enjoy the new scenery. Who knows? Maybe it'll better than you even hoped!
Ach - I hate having to switch when you don't want to! But hopefully the transition will be a positive one and you will be able to remain in contact with Violet consistently - perhaps a situation will open up for her soon, too!
Yes, here's hoping it turns out to be Bob's dream come true and yours! :)
Good luck to you and Bob :) .
Good Luck with the move. I hope you both like the new place.
Paula I need to ask a very important question that has haunted me since childhood.

I can't think of a way to ask politely, like my parents always taught, so I'll just ask:

When you visit Bob, are you REALLY allowed to put your elbows on the table?

ROTFLAMO
Hi paula, hope bob is happy in his new home, I am sure he will go fine there with the move to the new abode. Photos of the new surroundings too please & bob :D . Been awhile since we have seen Bob the Wonder Horse.
Hi Paula,

I'm sorry to hear about Bob's upcoming move and it sounds as if you are torn about the whole thing. It reminds me of what Willowbough's mom went through when I first met her (Lynda). Her horse is very ancient (30 I think) and she used to have to travel down to my area covering hundreds of miles for work every couple weeks.
Eventually she moved down here ( only 10 mins away from me!). Arrangements were made for her horse (Merlin) to be transferred down here as well. I once spent the day with her in search of the perfect stable.

Sadly Merlin didn't seem pleased about the move and thus she transferred him back to his former place and now travels hundreds of miles up there to see him every two weeks or so. What moms do for love!!

I hope Bob is happy at his new place and you are doing it for him and his happiness.

Marianne
Lets just hope "a change is as good as a rest" for Bob the Wonder Pony (fab name) it might be the best thing for him, you never know
I'm betting Bob the Wonder Pony will have a new spring in his step when he enjoys a new surrounding! Good luck with the change!!!!!
