Deaf 11 month OES girl in SPCA probably near Sacramento, CA?

I just learned of an owner turn-in situation to the "SPCA" probably near Sacramento, California. I have no more details than this at this point, other than it was Saturday and the OES is deaf and probably about 11 months. I am trying to get more info and see if we can get her some help.

Does anyone in the area have contacts to call around and locate this girl, perhaps SoCal rescue?
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
I can contact Toni Nyquist she is in Ca. ?
Is she involved with N. California rescue? I think I've read that they won't accept deaf dogs, while S. California might.
I got an update on where she is and have contacted a rescue to see if they
might help. The rescue had been contacted before so I'm not sure they'll take her.

"(This) sweetheart has typical OES behavior of nipping, jumping up, etc."

This is the contact info but they're closed today.

Roseville is near me. I will make a call on this dog tomorrow when the shelter is open.

I rescued a deaf female OES, many years ago. Lulu. She as a real sweet dog and used to follow the male OES I had at the time, bumping against his flank to keep him in contact since she was in full coat and couldn't see all that well either. One day my male managed to open the gate of the yard when I was out. (He was a clever one.) They both got out but stayed in the front yard. A jogger saw a car come along at high speed and deliberately swerve to hit her while she was standing on the side of the road. She couldn't hear it coming. The jogger was holding her head when I got home but had managed to get the license plate number. I tracked it down to an active duty Air Force kid but when I reported it to his Commanding Officer along with the witness's name and number, no action that I know of was ever taken.

Lulu didn't make it and maybe I owe it to her to check into this deaf little girl.
That would be wonderful. :D
Pleeeease get a lock for the gate. :plead: If she gets out she'll never hear a call to return or as you mentioned, an approaching car.

Known Issues-
Jumping and nipping
Terribly frightened of electric clippers and blow dryers.
Lulu died in 1973-- a lot of houses and about 7 OES rescues ago. The gate had one of those latches you opened by pulling back on the top. Too easy for a clever OES. Ever since, I have more secure gate locks. I now have a large gate with both a latch and drop pins. Also, my current 2 1/2 year old male, Charlie, is a sweetheart but not all that clever.
I'm sending you a private message with more information on this special sheepie girl...
This would be good and would really warm my heart if someone we know can help this girl.

Thanks for all the efforts! I'll hold my breath for more info and/or interest.
Ron... sending you a PM
I talked to the Placer SPCA as well as the former owner. We will be going to see her this coming Friday.

I can't tell you how over-whelmed I have been at the response to Hush Puppy and how grateful I am to the Simm's for their willingness to take a chance and look at Hush Puppy. I have learned a valuable lesson about the devotion and the love of the OES community and I love you all. I apologize that I didn't contact you first (Ron:-).
Yippee!!!!! Fingers crossed..........

Please P.M. me if you have any questions about having a deaf dog, and I will be happy to share my experiences. Heck, I've forgotten what it's like to have a dog that can hear!

I saw all of the responses and me of all people should be the first to thank them and I can’t get in.

She's going to try again when she gets home from work.
I just uploaded five photos.

I apologize but my camera does not have a very fast shutter so some of the pix are not as clear as they should be. She moves very fastly...lol
Oh! I've been checking in throughout the day.
I can't wait to see her :D
Are things going okay?
Looking forward to seeing the pictures. :D
My hubby and I had our first disagreement last night. He wanted to call the newest member of our household Susie. I wanted to call her Mollie.
Notwithstanding the fact that she is deaf and cannot come when she is called...

This afternoon, the discussion was completed when himself brought home her new collar with the name "MOLLIE" on it.

Obviously, I have him well trained...
LMAO.... Go Jean!!

Love it!
That was SOOO sweet.
So Mollie it is.
Congrats!
congratulations!!!!
THE PICTURES ARE ON!!

Mollie is beautiful.
(I'm sure she'll forgive you for the world
wide posting of "the potty picture" )
You must be sooo happy.

Someone pass me a kleenex!
 Woo hoo!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

(She does have a devilish look in the picture with Clarke!)
lol...she is beautiful....and what a good squatter she is 8)
She is really pretty! Her markings are great.

The "potty picture" is so funny, poor Mollie...
Joan votes for "Mollie," I vote for

OK, this is a visual thing. I am standing up at my computer, frantically waving my arms over my head.

:rimshot:

I kill me!

(sort of like this :yay: )

that is just bad, super duper bad.....lol....God forgive me though, I laughed 8O :twitch:
Oh I just saw the photos of "Mollie" what a wonderful name. Thank you Clarke and Jean for giving her another chance. You are wonderful people. You are ALL wonderful and caring. :)

Robin
Aww, she's a beauty!!
OMG.. she is beautiful... congrats on your new addition...
She is beautiful, Jean. How are things going so far?
She is a beauty! Oscar signs "Hi Mollie!". 8)

We joked about what to name Oscar as well, since he doesn't know the difference. When talking about him to others, we often called him by our first sheepie's name by accident, because we rarely used his name. It took awhile!

You will, however, become adept at pounding on the floor with your heel to get Mollie's attention. Tile sucks! Much easier on hardwood and carpet. :D

And if you haven't already picked up a copy, I hope you'll get "Living With A Deaf Dog", by Susan Becker. The info contained in this book is so helpful, and invaluable.

Congrats!

Laurie and Oscar
Wow!!!

She is indeed a whirling dervish. She seems to constantly want to be touched, scratched and generally petted. :hearts:

She is learning from the other three kids faster than we could ever teach her ourselves. Every day tasks like in and out the pet door, where the supper dishes are and where all the water dishes are 'hidden'.

She is still exploring the back yard and house and finds new things each time she roams. We took her on a walkabout the neighborhood and introduced her to the neighbors so they would be able to recognize her. She is so cute even the grouch down the street gave her a pat! :twitch:

Next Tuesday, she goes to the vet for a check up to verify that I can sedate her so I'll be able to 'shear' her. Lottsa mats and she is too excitable to work with a mat splitter. (Oops, was that an ear?)

I was in the shower last night and who puts her head in first...and then jumps in to be 'with her people'. Looks like giving her a bath won't be a problem.

I've forgotten: Do 1 year olds still have needle-sharp baby teeth? I'm reminded of the Don Ho song: "Tiny Daggers"/lol :sidestep:

All for now. Gotta get morning biscuits for the herd. More photos to come.

Do I sound like a new parent? Sorry but she is sooooo much fun. :D
that is wonderful!!!! i think her puppy teeth should be gone by one yr of age.......
Yay, Jean & Family!

Not to steal your thunder, but we have a sweet, deaf male in Indianapolis still looking for a home. He's listed on Petfinder:

A securely fenced yard is a MUST!

Thanks!

Nita
And on top of that, Darcy...

She has two beautiful blue eyes like Panda
The picture of Clarke and a sheepie says "Susie or Mollie First Photos".

So THAT explains the difference in the marking and
the eye color... I've been trying to figure that out!
Congratulations! Mollie is beautiful. If I were at home more I might try a deaf or blind dog. Years ago I went to a persons house and they had two Newfies and one was blind. The other one acted as her guide dog and they would run and play together. Thank you so much for taking such good care of such a sweet girl. :D :D :D
Oooops again.

The photo with hubby is he and Jake. (must have been on the disk from before) He's gained a little weight since that photo (but don't tell I said so) LOL

Sorry all.
Just wondering how Mollie is doing...
Did you get her shaved down?
Is she settling in okay?

If you need any help with training, I received an email address from a lady that has trained a deaf dog... I believe he's a certified therapy sheepie and is now 9 years old. Let me know if you need help.
good luck with her she is so cute..
Oh Jean she is lovely and how heartwarming to hear how well she is settling in! You are truly wonderful!
Hello everyone.
Just returned from a car trip to Oregon. All six of us!
Molly was wonderful! She is a great traveler and has been invited back to the La Quinta Inns. Apparently, the local LQ was shooting a film commercial and she "wondered" into the shot. Seems the head boss thought it was so cute he was going to leave it in.
Inagine! My baby girl is a movie star!!!! Notwithstanding the fact that we were not supposed to be in the lobby at that time of the morning...but hey, who knew?

I ready for my close-ups, Mr. DeMille....

Wow, going from skidrow to stardom! Sounds like a fairytale. :D
WTG Mollie!
SUPERSTAR!
Ummm... can I have an autograph??

I am SO happy that she's settling in.
I can't thank you enough for helping this sheepie-girl.
Thanks for the update! :D
New photo added with all four of our fuzzbutts. :D :D :D
Thats a wonderful picture! :D How great that they all are so comfortable with each other!
Looks like they are all getting along wonderfully.
One question though, Jean. :lmt: Where do you and Clarke sleep? 8O

I ditto that one!!!
Oh you got her all shaved down.
I bet she's a happy sheepie. :D

Where do you and Clarke sleep?

That's exactly what my husband asked.
If you're like us, there's another bed but it's
just out of view of the camera. 8O
I hate to tell you all....but that is our bed

At least it was before the zoo expanded :P

Hubby and I manage to somehow wiggle in amongst the fur babies. Needless to say...private moments are few and far between

Both of us now have a bit of exhibitionist in us!
But we tell Molly not to watch since she's so young.

OMG... that is sooo funny... and so much like us 8O

The word "sardine" seems to best describe it sometimes.
Looks like your family are all sooo very comfortable and happy
