Dutch and I flunked obedience class

The last couple of weeks when at class I have become very ill, retching and shaking and I think it might be lack of air or something in the air in the place so we have stopped going. But on the good side she walks like a dream now, nothing bothers her, bikes, joggers, other animals and NO PULLING  and we are both enjoying our walks now. I will continue to push the basics with her but will do it at home and she still goes to doggy play so she is getting the interaction with other animals and people . Mind you she is still a brat as far as counters, tables , anything that has something on it, she loves to break off the branches of my shrubs along with getting to excited when people come in but we will survive (I think  ) Oh and she has not chewed up any furniture

It sounds like progress. I don't know what was up with the space making you ill, but I can relate. I had a tough time with our last set of puppy classes because I kept getting mini-migraines, not helped by the sound of puppies bouncing off of walls and floor (no soft surfaces to absorb sound) or the clicker. I bowed out of a few and let my hubby do it, strictly for that reason.
Jean...was it at a park or indoors? I am just curious.
Maybe you are allergic to something there?
Tigr, Wendy and Ron

The training was indoors and outdoors and I was always ok till we went inside, so it must have been something in the air or lack of air. it might even have been the rubber mats that covered all the flooring
Sorry to hear you got unwell, there must of been something there setting you off indoors. What a bummer, is there anywhere else close by to go too for training and fun with Dutch?

Wonderful to hear NO PULLING now

Keep up the basics, remember they grow brains later when more mature.

Love puppy antics and naughtiness.
Well if you've had all these successes then it sounds like you didn't flunk at all. :)
It probably is the matting. Our local kennel club got new matting a year ago and the matting is still making people ill.

I'm glad you still were able to get something out of the class. Perhaps there is another place you could try, or something outdoors for the summer?
Maybe it was the rubber matting. That rubber gies off a smell sometimes and can make you ill...especially if you are allergic. maybe you were allergic to the other dogs?

Don't feel bad about flunking out. It doesn;t sound like you flunked at all! we had to go through Puppy K twice so far and will probably be repeating beginner's obedience also. My problem is my pup is great but always poops during the class!

If you want to continue, maybe you an get the teacher to do a private lesson or two at your own house???
Oh we flunked, she walks great but lay down ... no way unless it's with 4 feet in the air and we never learned recall  But I'm not to concerned and I will just work to enforce her sit stay , down stay, no jumping and recall at home.the biggy for me was the walking and she did great weaving and walking in and around the other dogs and people and that has carried through to our own walks on the street and in the plaza

I think it must have been the rubber matting that disagreed with me.
We have a hard time with the recall as well :? He eitherdoesn't come at all or runs like a mad man, sits, gets his cookie and then takes off like a bat out of hell around the class at about 90 miles and hour while everyone else tries to keep their dog from joining him in the fun

Anyway, glad to hear you got some good things out of the class anyway. we plan to compete so we'll be going to school forever :)
Hooray for progress! Keep up the good work!
Ashley,
Are you sure that you aren't talking about Bella? I havent had her in a class to try that trick but she acts that way at home. Gaud aren't sheepies fun!
Good luck on your show career :D ,I spent many a weekend at dog shows while my gramp showed his OES when I was young and now all I want is a happy go lucky lovable sheepie :D
My Sheepie did the same thing in an obedience class; Great in everything except the down command et al. Guess the stubborness is instilled n breeding...I finally got him down...had to use a police takedown (fast legsweeep) to do that...beyond that all was great. He does ignore me too, at times (guess we have to show who is in charge) a time or two during commands...he was great after that....and passed with flying colors.

Silly Sheepie...what is funny, is the result when I train with hotdogs. He is so good and surpasses all dogs when the thought of a real good treat is behind the command. We blew through the exercises when there was a "weeine" at the end.
