Gasp! My Sliding Door Fell Over!

Well shoulda known things were going too well and some bad karma was headed my way..ha ha.

I mean in a million years I would have never guessed..Never! That when I went to shut the sliding patio door (my only back door) it must have come off the track , fell over onto the porch busting in a million pieces of glass. Freak accident? 8O

Calling the insurance company he said well you must be strong and tugged so hard it came off the track. I replied I'm barely 5 ft tall and 100 pounds (didn't mention my big muscles from all the home renos I do).

Unfortunately, I would have to pay 500 deductable and a replacement door is aprox 598 dollars. Would also mean I would lose my discount for having nothing claimed for umpteen years. So I'm undecided....
Sigh who would have expected that to happen?
>>>shrugs shoulders and looks totally bewildered.

Oh my goodness! Are you OK? Was anyone hurt?

That is the problem with insurance, losing your no claims. Hope it all works out!
Oh gosh, that was a freak accident, it seems sometimes there are days like this! I had some!!

Hope you sort out your insurance but I wouldnt want to loose your no claim status. Can you keep the no claim status if you pay by yourself or only if you claim and get the money? It doesnt sound it would be enough to be worth it! Not that you pay on the top of it when you have a bigger claim later one day!
I am sooooooooo glad everyone is ok!!!!!!!!! What a terrible thing 8O
Hope nobody's hurt????

JEEZ you realy must be strong :lmt:

wendy and gismo
That had to be scary. If it was my house, I would have been surrounded by all my "helpers" as I shut the door. Someone 4 legged would have been hurt. You are so lucky none of yours were under it, or that it didn't hit you.

If the cost of replacement really is that close to your deductible, I would just get a new one and not file a claim. Keep your no claim status. It will probably save you money in the long run.
YIPES!!! I too would have had my four footed helpers close at hand and no telling what horrible thing would have happened.

Marianne!! Have you ever heard of Freecycle? I belong to an Ottawa based email group that you can give away things you don't need....and ask for things you do. Just the other day sliding glass doors were on offer. I would imagine that there are the same kind of groups in your city. My group is based with Yahoo...you could do a search for your area.
Be prepared for a TON of email but wow! what great stuff!

Does anyone else feel like zipping over to Marianne's house? If there is such a thing as good karma ...well...Marianne is the person I would think has it!!!

So glad no one was hurt ....best of luck with replacement!
Good idea Michele!

Or perhaps you could check with an area contractor who does remodeling. I bet they would have a sliding door from somone who was doing some work - like changing to french doors or something like that.
I agree -- save the insurance for the major catastrophes and try to solve this one without jeopardizing your status. This is awful and inconvenient but it is not your house burned down or was carried away in a flood. I actually choose a higher deductible so that my payments are lower because I don't intend to use insurance unless I really have to. I save alot of money that way. There is a big difference in premium's paid between 1000, 2000 and 5000 deductibles.

I love Freecycle! Nicole told me about it and I have used it to get rid of such much stuff after I moved!! It is a great great service.
Oh, yes, go to Freecycle for sure! You can even "ask" for free stuff that you are looking for.

Go into your own Yahoo profile and look at "mail". You can click on "daily digest" and then all you get is 1 email a day, with all of the emails in a row.

Saves your in-tray!
