Herding

Hi everyone, Rick and I took Murphy, Bella and Elliot to a herding instinct test, we had a ball. It was so interesting, and we had a good time also. Murphy could have cared less if there was a herd of elephants in there. He just pranced around the ring looking for the party  Bella sat, and looked around as though she was thinking " I WANT MY MOTHER NOW :x Elliot, the pup, got in made eye contact with the sheep, and if I could put words to that expression, it would have been, " This is what I was born to do." He started herding the sheep staying wide like he was supposed to. The trainer even took him off the rope, and said he knows what he's doing. It was so amazing to watch :) We are going to a herding clinic in August with him so we can learn to compete in herding trials. It is so amazing to watch your dog do what he was bred to do. If anyone ever gets a chance to do this I highly recomend it.

That sounds AMAZING! I would have loved to see the three of them and see the difference that you describe. How interesting and wonderful!

Where did you do this?
Ron, We live in PA. We went to a little town between Mansfield and Wellboro PA. Her name is Cynthia Knowlton, she teaches dog obedience and herding. She trains under a guy from Missouri, she just flew out in June for one of his clinics. He is comming to PA. in August and is holding a clinic at her farm. She has Australian cattle dogs, her dogs are awesome. She has a website, I think if you just go to Cynthia Knowltons dog obedience it will come up. It was truly amazing to watch, she did say Murph probably could be taught, he also enjoyed all the sheep chips on the ground  , but Elliott acted like he had been doing this all his short little sheepie life :) We are going to go to the clinic in August for at least one day. I have pictures, if I get a chance to post them I will soon, crazy work schedule
Arent the herding instincts test days great, some have it naturally others well  Did I ever tell you about the one that would not move out from behind his mommys legs.

Elliott Sounds like a natural there. :clappurple:

Look forward to seeing the photos

We have a little town called Mansfield here too, near our farm. :D
Do you know the name of the guy from Missouri?
Never mind I found it!!! :D
I wonder if Cynthia Knowlton is any realtion to Ted Knowlton, who is married to Grannie Annie?

Probably not, but the name just jumped out at me.
that is awesome!
Was it at that Flyaway fields? I talked to her a little bit but with the show schedule it was hard to nail anything down.
Why don't you post the details for the clinic and all in case people in the area would like to attend?
Nope, just Cynthia Knowltons dog obedience. All the spots are gone. I did not know about this until 2 wks. ago when my dogs tested, and she had 2 spots left, which I took one and another lady took the other
The guys name who is teaching the clinic is Johnny Painter.
oh would love to see any pictures ? We also have a town called Mansfield lol
GO ELLIOT! Sounds like a lot of fun. You'll have to take picture!
I loved reading your post!

It is amazing that some furballs are naturally good at it and how proud you must have been and betcha it brought you lots of smiles that day!
