I am using nail cutters-clippers-shears from Italy.

We are using a pair of nail cutters from Italy. They are shaped more like pruning shears with half-moon indents in the blades.

We are using this because I felt they were much better than the guillotine type, but I forget exactly why. I have a vague feeling it was that I thought the guillotine type was crushing rather than cutting, but I'm not sure.

Anyone else using this type of nail clipper?

Mine are similar, just green instead of red. :D

Mine have more humble origins, however. They are from Walmart.
That is exactly like what I have, but mine are black.
One word of advice - make sure they stay very sharp
because if they aren't, they will crush the nail worse than
the guillotine type. As long as they are sharp they are
the best, IMO. It may just be me, but they seem quite
a bit quicker too. They also pinch less if you use a real
quick grip and release motion.

The advantage I see is the ability to sharpen the shears, where as the guillotine type can't be sharpened (I think).

In thinking about the motion of the two, I don't see any difference in the crushing/downward pressure (anyone good in physics?). I do agree that quicker is better. I wish I could use a nail grinder - I need to learn.

My nail trimmers are in the cabinet with all of the other dog grooming supplies. It's the only thing that I can't/won't do to the furries.
I prefer them as they do cut, the guillotine ones do crush and having used them before, just found it dam hard to cut those blasted giant nails.

The new ones I have are similar and even though I will make any excuse not to cut the nail, they do work great and cut nice n clean and quickly.

Have to train my hubby for nail cutting. 8)
I just did Chewie, Riley and Tazz's nails today. :D Simon is on the list for tomorrow - lucky guy!
I can't trim the wigglebum's nails. I have to let the groomer do it. I tried once and trimmed Genevieve's too close. It bleed a little and she cried :( - that was the end of that for me. No more trimming nails.

Now, I do the cats nails all the time. :D
Those are the exact set that I have! Although mine have seen some texturing modifications performed by a tiny girl sheepdog with an attitude!
I think I picked them up for $14.99 from Cherrybrook, probably when they had a store near us (1994?) lol.

Could be they were a more recent purchase from the cherrybrook booth at a show, but I've never bought from them online and there's a cherrybork sticker on the plastic sheath.
I got mine from Cherrybrook for about that price.
how do you sharpen them?

(I'm in the process of collecting grooming supplies for my no good very bad banned from every groomer in town dog)
