Red bottom

Does anyone know if dogs can get hemorroids? Last night I was petting Pandas nubbin' and noticed that her bottom was red and a little swollen...

She has not been licking it nor does it seem to bother her....I washed it with some mild soap and called it a night. I havent checked her this morning (i was running late for work)...but I was just wondering if dogs could get hemorroids....thats what it looked like to me...

btw her stool consistancy is fine and so is the amount she is going......

Are you sure she isn't biting her butt while at work? Yuki can do that just for 2 minutes and does her bestest to make sure I'm not in the room when she does it (only takes once) and her stub will be red as described. When I leave, I always spray this aloe stuff on her butt followed by putting my vs shorts on her.

Getting bit by an ant or something similar can also cause it. Not sure if she goes outside a lot.
its not the the tail, its actually where she goes potty from...
Hmmm. Was she eating buffalo wings recently?

Actually, I know a pug who had this problem often. I have seen Listerine used to cleanse and freshen a red butt. Sounds painful to me. 8O
You also might have your vet check her anal glands....Bert recently had a sore red butt, and was licking and scooting 8O ...and it turned out to be over-full anal sacs.

Ron....we really need a gagging "yuck" emoticon for discussions like this!
Poor Panda Butt!
Poor Panda's butt, is right. Hope she's feeling better very soon.

Listerine sounds painful. 8O She doesnt seem to have the anal gland discharge smell...but now with all of your posts re: maggie, im wondering if its that......
For what it is worth, Maggie's butt was not at all red. The only thing was that her whole area was wet from licking and her fur turned brown as a result.
Eeewww!

LOL

Pepsi ate a packet of hot sauce from Taco Bell last night. 8O
Luckily he's only had a bit of gas. Silly dog!
I get home tonight...and it still looks red....we take her for a walk, she does a poop, everything is fine and normal....

we get back home, i take a look and she is bleeding slightly from her rectum. one upper corner of it looks like a hemorroid (kinda bulging)..that is where she is bleeding from....other than the fact that I am completely freaking out, is there anything that i should be looking for...

she honestly doesnt seemed bothered by it, even after i doused her with peroxide and warm water.....she isnt scooting, sniffing or licking......should i take her to the emergency vet or should i wait till monday????????
Oh darcy poor panda, if you can get into see a vet soon I would take her.

It could be she might have a hard impacted anal gland on one side, if it does not seem to worry her too much, it should not be too bad, but the fact she is bleeding from there a vet check as soon as you can. When brie had an impacted anal gland on one side there was a lump there and I took her, no signs of scooting or trying to lick the area either, it did not worry her at all, a good sqeeeeeeze and clean out by the vet and no problems ever again with the anal glands.

Hugs to you both and keep us posted on dear panda girl.
Maggie is sending Panda lots of support and well-wishes for her uncomfortable butt.
Time for TUCKS???
Yeah, I'd say Tucks. Anal prolapse usually doesn't bleed. With Panda's recent bowel problems, she might have a hemorroid like problem. It isn't a great hurry, Monday is probably fine unless she starts showing discomfort. If she sat on a weed head, she'd be chewing like mad to get it out. Patience.
I guess they might call that an anal fissure in humans. It is a small tear that causes slight bleeding. It's usually because the stools are too hard, causing hemorhoids and the bleeding. I would have a vet check her though...just in case it's an anal gland problem.
Las Vegas Sheepiel lover called me last night...what a sweetie she is!! Anyway, she told me to call the emergecny vet and see what they had to say...

so i did...they said if it wasnt bothering her to wait until monday to bring her to the regular vet. Panda seems more annoyed that I keep checking her butt than the actual problem....they also said not to put any more peroxide on it..(LVSL you were right)......basically told me to leave it alone until the vet checked her out.......
So right about hydrogen peroxide. The agent actually burns, or oxidizes the skin tissue, so best not to use it on wounds. I know we were all taught to use it, but actually slows healing. Save it for touching up those dark roots.

I hope it is an anal fissure and not a perianal fistula (which usually ooze stinky pus)
Well, we have another vet appt scheduled for Tues 8:30 am...I sure hope its just a hemorroid and not an anal gland issue.....
Good luck with her vet visit tomorrow! We will be thinking of you guys!
thinking of you and panda and I guess panda will be happy to have this resolved so mommy won't keep checking her butt.
Hope it goes okay!
Just got back from the vet...Panda had a boil 8O that expressed itself....yuck......how she got a butt boil, I have NO idea.....

Anyway, they put her on another course of antibotics to be safe, since it is still a tad oozy......

Poor Panda and her red bottom
Oh no! A Butt Boil!

Poor girl!
Chewie sends you a big :hearts: smoochy kiss!!!

Poor Panda - that butt has to hurt!
grosssss.. Hop panda feels better!
Nasty! But at least it's not an anal gland problem.
Hope it's better soon!
I am glad Panda is okay and that she doesn't have to put up with you examining her butt anymore.
Well, bless her little heart, that sounds awfully painful. :( Poor baby!! :hearts:

Hope she's feeling better. :ghug:
I knew a guy named Rick Boyle and his son Lance (who called him Pop).
that is just horrible, i mean horrible
  yeah, even for you Ron, that was bad.

Hope it heals quickly!
