My baby is home

Hello.

I am the person who wrote about the blood in the urine about two weeks ago. We ended up electing to have the surgery on our baby. He had the surgery Tuesday. We wanted to give him a chance. It was scary. He couldn't breathe on his own during the surgery and his blood pressure dropped also but the good news is he came out of it. The surgeon was able to remove the entire tumor; however, the rest of the liver has nodules (some 19 or so more) and you just can't take out that many. Even with the nodules, he still has good liver function. He spent the next few days recuperating and got to come home today. He definetely seems to feel better having had the tumor removed. The pneumonia is still there and he is on antibiotics to try and beat it for good.

The bad news is that the biopsy came back with a very nasty diagnosis - cholangiocystadenocarcinoma - a very invasive and metastatic cancer.

I can't describe the rollercoaster we have been on - I spent the entire day he had surgery crying; I was so afraid for him. Then the next few days he was doing so good, especially for an older dog having had surgey and now being told it is probably only days, best case months.

This is awful.
The questions I have is has anyone heard of a cancer-fighting diet for dogs, and what about holistic vets to help treat cancer?

Any advice is welcomed.

 I am so sorry. When I had finished reading tears were falling from my eyes. I wish the best for you and hope you can find someone who can help. :hearts:
I'm really sorry about the end results. The good news is that he seems to be doing better right now. Thats a lot to be grateful for. I would never discourage you from seeing a holistic vet. It is NEVER a guarantee, but if it helps you to do be doing something for him, it can't hurt, but only help.
I'm sorry, I have no advice but wanted to tell you that , I'm terrible sorry for the diagnosis your baby got. :(
I think Holly was doing this for Beau. I'd do a search for it within the forum, it should pop up.

Good luck and hopefully treatment will help give you guys some good time together!

I was going to say the same thing. She had a lot of success with it too-- it kept him alive a lot longer than predicted.

Send her an e-mail. I know she's been off and on with her computer but I know she'll get back to you. Her forum name is bestdogsx4
I am so sorry you are having to go through this
I was so happy to read he made it through the surgery and then to here about the cancer. I am so sorry.

Prays and hugs are coming your way. :hearts:

If anyone has information about any alternative treatment you will find it here.

What a horrible roller-coaster. I am so saddened by the diagnosis for your sweet boy. My very best wishes to you for helping him through all this. :ghug:
Oh giant hugs for you both. Don't give up, you try everything.

My previous sheepie had tumour removal at 7 years old, we had a bad prognosis there of 6 months to maybe more.

I turned to a Holisitic approach and she lived till the age of 14. Old age took her in the end.

Any prognosis after tumor removal is not a guideline to how long they have got. I have heard many stories of doom and the dogs have gone on for ages and I have heard good results and it has been the opposite. :(

Main thing especially with the chances of it mastitising is to stay positive and keep them eating well and in the optimum health.

I personally would be looking to see a Holisitic registered Vet and see what they can advise, they do have good cancer diets and supplements to help there.

I am so sorry and I know exactly what you are going through, love to you both.
Just wanted to say thank goodness for you and that he has a loving home , My prayers are with you both
I empathize with the rollercoaster you are on. I hope you make the most of the time you have with your sheepie. May you have many more years to enjoy each other. You'll both will be in my thoughts and prayers.
I hope you get some more time with your dog. With a cancer diagnosis, I feel every day is a gift.

My chocolate lab Macy has had cancer for 2 years now. She had a big tumor in her groin removed at age 12. We switched her to the best dog food we could afford and gave her lots of TLC. She has a couple mammary lumps -which are not growing! and is losing weight this year. Our vet feeling the cancer is slowly spreading inside her. She will be 14 yrs old on July 14th. Last spring we were told months to a year - so she has done well. I just enjoy her every day and hope for the best. At age 14 I know she can't live forever, just want her to have a happy lab life!
Sorry to hear the bad news. Enjoy everyday as if it were the last one.
I am glad your baby made it through the surgery but what a terrible diagnosis. Enjoy your time with your baby. :ghug:
Oh my, we're thinking of you. I'm so sorry :(
I am so sorry about your baby...I think the best advice would be for you to follow your Vet's recommendations and have a consultation with a holistic vet. It can't hurt. Many people do belive a natural diet improves the odds with a cancer diagnosis...You have nothing to lose by trying...

Good luck..You are in my thoughts and prayers. No matter what, you did the best for your baby and he is in the best place he can be - right there with you. That's what's important to him...
