Thursday and Friday were spent at the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon Expo and "bib" pickup. Marathon runners from all over the world come up for this run. It was held indoors at a hotel, so no dogs allowed, which was why we had to leave then at Joahanyo's house on the longer of the two days (Friday) to be pup-sat. (thanks Joah!) My appologies to any marathon runners on this board, but, these people took wierd and rude to a whole new level! Saturday was our local Gay Pride festival. SOOOO much more fun! |

| I'd be the same way, as far as the obnoxious people you ran into... I'd make the sell, but be thinking the whole time how much I don't want to. Hope your mood is all better now that the weekend is over! I actually think I'm coming down with a cold (all the dang weather changes)!
I'm upset now that I missed out on Sat's events! It sounded like a blast. I would have loved to see people get dressed up and wrestle. I'm sure just walking in that costume has to be hard |
| OHHHHHHH Sumo wrestling!!!! You brought back memories for me as I dressed up in one of those costumes at the fair once and had a match against a 10 year old in the ring.(He didn't have a sparing partner and since I weighed about as much as him I volunteered to go against him.) Sheesh!! everyone cheered for the kid Raven sounds like you had a fantastic time, wish I had been there!!! As for those long distance runners...next time bring marbles.. Marianne |
| Well the bad day days was offset by a lot of fun. Remember the good day......sounds like a riot! Yeah, understand the problem with the runners.......won't go into details. Glad the furkids got proper lovin' and admiration.

| That is lame about the runners. The races I've been in seem to have 2 types of people running in them. The 'runners'--the ones who are super into it and feel that they are special and 'athletes' and better because they are faster and have more endurance, and the 'people running the race'--the ones who enjoy running more for fun and aren't in it to win it. I'm part of the latter group. sounds like the second half was good, though! |
| Barney, you hit it. There are two types, those who have the superiority problems thinking only "true runners" should be in the race and those who just enjoy the run/race. The ones with attitude make it difficult be even work as support.......but then these are the types who tend to think themselves superior in life, driven in all things, taking no time to smell the roses, let alone pick a bouquet.
Glad you are in the second group! Enjoy your runs. |
| HAHAHAHAHAHA, I'll take a Pride weekend over a uptight runners weekend any time. Here in Ithaca we are home to large herds of both and I'll take the former over the latter ANYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Yup...that was it EXACTLY! Most of my sales, and good interactions were with folks who said they were doing the "half" marathon, or even walking the route...or were the support people. The "serious" runners seemed to more often be the ones who decided my booth was a good place to: rearange their backpacks...stand in large groups (all facing in) and talk...or model their new running clothes for each other in front of my easals! |
