Woofstock at Lambs Farm in IL on Sat, June 23

A new event called Woofstock is being held at Lambs Farm - Pet Shop Lawn on Saturday, June 23 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Our schedule is packed so I don't think we'll be able to make it. If we do go, it would be late in the day.

Admission is FREE!
BRING YOUR PET...Pet enthusiasts are sure to love this ALL NEW event dedicated to “man’s best friend.” Exciting activities take place throughout the day culminating in the Canine Couture Fashion Show with prizes valued up to $250 for participants. Visit with McGruff the crime dog and the Lake County K-9 Unit. Watch demonstrations by Agility Junkies Agility Club, Cross Roads Search and Rescue, Bark Busters, Healing Touch (Animal Communication), and more. Enter a drawing for prizes including a $500 gift certificate to the Pet Shop of Lambs Farm. Shop unique pet product and service vendors and even make crafts with your pooch! To enter your dog in the fashion show, please contact Kate at KCothell@lambsfarm.org. To learn how to become a vendor, click here.

Woofstock must be a travelling show - we attended the one in Toronto, Ontario (in the St. Lawrence Market District) a few weeks ago. We went on the Sunday (two-day show) and spent the afternoon there.

I was a little disappointed. The show in IL sounds like it has more to do/see - at the Toronto show there was a parade one day, and a few stage shows (fashion show, tricks, grooming), but for the most part it was a ton of exhibitors (200 or more) selling things out of tents. It was interesting to go once, but I don't know if I'd go again - unless more events were planned.

We spent about half of our time getting pictures taken (something about having a well-groomed fluffy dog - however, that's not really new - maybe next time we should charge $2 a photo), and found that many of the vendors (location specific, I'm sure - some were small stores from the Toronto area) catered to small dogs, and didn't have anything big enough to fit Barkley (let alone the Briards and St. Bernards we saw). The food exhibitors were a lot more fun for us (and him - he walked right into the Old Mother Hubbards/Wellness booth and lay down next to the people there, who lavished him with attention and treats, and he didn't want to leave their booth).

There were a ton of free samples flying around, and lines for most of them (Purina, Eukanuba, Greenies, Oust, a ton of small feed companies). There were also a fair number of vendors selling leashes, harnesses, paintings, etc... like you would see at a show - just more of them all crammed together. All in all, a great show if you're looking for something cute for your dog to wear (provided you have a small OES), or want to line up for free samples, but not necessarily worth the drive if you're there for the shows.

That being said, the IL day seems to have more events going on, which would have made our day much more enjoyable.
Thanks for the info, Craig! It does sound very similar to our Pet Expo, but this one is outdoors and you can actually bring your pets even if they aren't exhibitors. The craft thing sounds fun :D
We were also able to bring our pets (it was outside as well). That definitely made it a lot more fun. There were a ton of other people with dogs walking around, and we saw two other sheepdogs (both in puppy cut). It was certainly an experience for our 1-year old OES on his birthday - he got to meet a ton of new dogs and new people. He seemed annoyed with the people who wanted pictures, but wouldn't pet him.

Making crafts with your dog sounds like a blast. I have this funny feeling that most of the OES dogs would end up glued to their crafts - nose hair would definitely get caught in there when they lean in to get a good look!

:D :D :D
We actually went yesterday and it was a lot of fun. I was hoping to see other IL sheepie people there, but noone :( Fozzie did seem to be the hit of the place and was a very good boy. So many people stopped to touch and talk to him. I think he needs a tshirt that says "I'm an Old English Sheepdog" :D With his soft puppy cut fur, people don't recognize him as an OES.

There were only about a dozen booths, it wasn't packed, it was overcast and cool out so it was a good day for the fest . We walked around very easily and even went into the pet shop. Fozzie was very good and was especially excited during the demonstation of the Radioflyer dogs running hurdles and grabbing balls. He really wanted to get in there and run. I kind of felt like we were torturing him being a leash. Poor guy! It was a nice outing!
