blade sharpening

ok ---- I'm at a loss here........ (as usual)........... gave Rosie her summer hair cut a few months ago with my Oster A5's...... toward the end of the process my clippers started being cranky.

They would run, but only if you held them at one particular position, so I assumed it was a short in the cord. When they died altogether, I packaged em up along with 4 blades and sent them to the "Authorized" Oster repair shop. I included a note that I thot the problem was a short in the cord. Well, to make a long story short it wasn't that, and after 2 months of waiting I finally got em back with a new "armature" (whatever the heck that is)

Yesterday I started out on Dexter. Clippers worked great - and I began with a blade I had kept and not sent to be sharpened. Everything worked GREAT !!! and I must say he looks very handsome as a naked boy !!! and can tell he feels great too.........

Now - - put Rosie up on the table and things aren't going so great. I changed to one of the #10 blades I had sent out to be sharpened and the dang thing won't cut worth a dime (to put it nicely). So I changed to one of the other #10 "sharpened" blades - same thing. Go thru all 4 blades that were supposedly sharpened and am extremely disappointed in all of them.

My question is: how well should "re-sharpened" blades cut??
I noticed the clippers themselves were getting hot too. Would that have anything to do with the blades not cutting??

I don't know whether my expectations were too high for re-sharpening or if I need to call the shop and complain......

and who do you use to sharpen your blades.
I'd hate to think I have to buy new blades for EVERY shave :?

thanks for your input..........

The factory may have applied a protective coating to the blades, as they do with new blades.

Try dipping them in some type of solvent like acetone (nail polish remover) or paint thinner and wiping the blades down. That should remove the coating and greatly improve the cutting action.

Using a spray like Andis "Cool Care" really helps keep the blades cool in addition to being a lubricant, disinfectant, cleaner and rust preventative.
WHERE do you send blades to be sharpened? I have a set of #10 for my Andis that need sharpening and I cannot find anyplace to send them.
I like Groomstar. http://www.groomstar.com/sharpen.html They only charge $5.50 per blade and do a good job.
I've used my osters I don't know how many times now shaving down my dogs and have never had them sharpened. I must admit they could use it now, but they are still functional....
