Front right leg shakes

Hi everybody, I wonder if anyone can give me some info on my dog, she is 2yrs old and very leggy for an OES, her front right leg continually shakes when she pu  ts pressure on it, also after walks of around 1 hr she takes several days to recover i.e. if we take her out over the next few days she is continually lying down as though she is exhausted, when she does walk her rear end seems to sway side to side quite a lot as though she is compensating for pain in / around this area. I would be grateful for any help / advice. as she is such a young dog. we have tried taking her on shorter walks but after 3 or 4 days the result is the same.

regards
Tom

I'd get her in to the vet to be checked over. Maybe have her leg/shoulder x-rayed to make sure there isn't something going on with the joint or bone. It could very well be pain that's causing her reluctance to exercise or stand and the shaking leg when she puts pressure on it. You might also check her pads. How long has she been like this?

I know everyone is going to roll their eyes when I say this  BUT ...
has she had a thyroid test?

Visit this link to see if there are any symptoms that seem consistent with hypothyroidism. If there, visit your vet and ask for a full thyroid panel.

If nothing else, it may rule it out. Low thyroid is a condition known to affect OES.

Please keep us posted on how she's doing?
Thanks for your reply, Misty has had xrays on her shoulder and leg which failed to show anything, she is booked in this morning at the vets for a thyroid test, will let you know the results when I get them.

I'm glad that you've ruled out an orthopedic problem. Misty's heart too is okay? Nothing funky going on with it?

Some dogs show several symptoms if they are hypothyroid... others just a couple. When doing a full blood workup on a dog, I've seen and been told that high cholesterol levels often go hand in hand with low thyroid. If your girl has had any recent blood work, you might ask the vet to look back to see if the cholesterol level was normal at that time. I don't believe that high cholesterol in dogs is a problem like it is with humans though.

5 out of 6 of my dogs are on Soloxine for low thyroid which is WHY I always ask that question. 4 in my pack are OES and of them, 3 have low thyroid... current ages 2 1/2 to 3 1/2. But the good news is that a little pill corrects the problem... the daily prescribed amount of a little pill is divided into two doses and given in the AM and PM.

Unfortunately I can't promise this is the cause and as usual I've gotten the cart before the horse. I'll be hoping for an easily diagnosed and easily corrected condition.
