Supposedly the infrared thing is the latest and greatest. Its faster (hotter), consumes less gas and is more controllable then the traditional burners. My bet is it would take a little getting used to this new system if you are a consistent griller.

I just looked at a Kenmore grill at Sears that has this ($800 range). I believe Weber has a couple as well.

A quick google search found this recent article on it:

I have read that, also char-broil has one tha is about 550.00
A Hibachi is nice at about $10.
  Ron you are so practical!
Thanks.

If you're going to use it nearly every day, or perhaps 3 or 4 times a week, then maybe I could justify a big expensive one. But if you're going to cook on a grill one a week and then only in the summer... I think it's too much.

I've had a big grill and it stood unused most of the time, though it was nice for our huge house-warming party (Gee, that was 15 years ago, lol).

Now we have a $30 (maybe) charcoal grill and it has lasted 3 years so far, plus about $40 in charcoal.

Here's a picture of the way it waits for us to use it....

Did you guys win the lottery or something? You're getting all kinds of new stuff!
My neighbors just purchased one of these new tech. grills and have been happy with it. My husband immediately developed grill envy as our Weber that we purchased last year does not have the infrared thingy. I have had to drag him away from infrared grills in a couple of stores thus far this spring.

Ron: We are those people that people that you described grilling regularly. We grill nearly every day. We even grill into the Winter months. The price for a fancier grill is justifiable for us.
For me personally, nothing says grilled food like good old fashioned charcoal! I'm sorry but the gas grilled food just doesn't taste the same. to me. It just tastes like stove/oven food cooked outside. I'd never, ever give up my weber charcoal grill, not for all the fancy dancy infrared grills in the world.

But that's just me. So my vote is for a nice weber!
