Simon's Not Eating

This started on day #2 in St. Louis. I just thought it was the change in routine. In St. Louis he would eat a few bites and walk away. So we get home and he's doing the same thing. He gets a cup and a half in the morning and the same in the evening. I even made a vet appt but canceled it because he ate a whole dish of food. This is not like Simon, he's always been a good eater and usually asks for more. NOW he has developed a caugh.(SP) This started yesterday. He hacks and acts like he has something stuck in his throat. I'm very worried and yes I will call the Vet in the morning, but my question is...has anyone else had their dog off his food after going on a short trip? PS..Just a side thought, Taylor has been porking out and Randy doesn't watch the dogs eat and I wonder if Taylor's been eating Simon's food.

See the vet, the fact is he now has a cough, which could mean Kennel cough or maybe an irritation to the throat, enough to put him off his food if he has been a good eater beforehand then something is not quite right at the moment.
I agree...see the Vet soon. Could be Kennel Cough and if it is it can be treated but your other dogs may catch it...By the way, it sounds more horrible than it is but if his throat hurts, that is why he may not be eating. Raw Honey is good for his throat and good nutrition if he won't eat. And be sure he is drinking water - you can add alittle pedylite to the water too to keep all his electrolytes in check...good luck.
Hi Pam,

Those symptoms do sound like Kennel Cough. Hope Simon gets better soon!
Poor Simon! I hope he gets well soon!
I'm sorry to hear Simon is sick. It does sound like kennel cough (Bordatella). It is basically an upper respiratory infection that dogs get. It is passed like colds are with people.

The vaccine (nasal) protects against a few strains, so even if you have the vaccine, your dog can still get it from a different strain.

There has been one going around that is particularily nasty, and very contagious. Even dogs vaccinated are getting it. Milder strains can pass by themselves - like a cold. This one is strong and has been requiring antibiotics and cough suppressants. The cough sounds like a bone or stick is caught in the dog's throat.
Any update on Simon??
