just right

Well, I am not sure if this is the correct place for this topic, but here I go... I am wondering how much excersize a puppy is supposed to get. I've been getting some mixed info.: don't over-do it, for a puppy can get hip problems, but don't under-do it, for the puppy will become bored and destructive. Hmmm. So what is just right? Does anyone have a schedule of what they do with their pups every day? Mopsey is 4.5 months. She gets free access to the back yard and we play tag several times a day. She also get exposed to at least two new places each week for her socialization. This week it was the park and the beach. Each time she was allowed to run free like a maniac for about 45 minutes. Does this sound ok? Or does she need more walks? Oh yeah, we walk her on the leash every evening for about 5-6 blocks and back. I dunno. 8O Any feedback would be appreciated! :D

Alot of exercise is good - but strenous exercise is cautioned at this age. So alot of playing, short walks, chasing balls, etc. is good - but long strenous walks wouldn't be recommended - either would be jumping on and off furniture or running/jogging (I don't mean the typical puppy running though). Try and stick with exercise and play that wouldn't be too hard on the joints/bones.

Hip dysplasia is a genetic disease - so even if a dog is diagnosed with it - it doesn't mean the owner did anything wrong.

Most importantly - relax and enjoy Mopsey - don't stress too much about it. I'm sure what you are doing is just fine!!!

Thanks again, Kristen. I am a worrier! Can't wait till I have upright kids... then I will most definatly lose my mind! LOL Ok, so I guess my routine is ok. She does seem bored at times, and would let me know by bringing her toy saying "come on mom, chase me!" So we run around the house like two crazy maniacs and then collapse on the couch exhausted. Its fun! I am taking a long breath...exhale... and trying not to worry so much. LOL
Marley,

Try and come up with some different games - maybe she'll get less bored. I know alot of people who play hide and seek with their sheepies - maybe you could do that. Also - it's a great time to work on some obedience and training - even teaching "tricks" - you kill two birds with one stone! Any time you spend working with her - even if it's just playing or teaching tricks - you strengthen your bond and will do wonders for her temperment and behavior. Have fun!!!! They grow up so fast - enjoy!
