Need your help deciding... duvet cover

I'd like to get the wine color because I've never had that color and think it will go well with all our dark bedroom furniture, but is it too bright and/or gaudy?

Sage? (you have to scroll down a few inches to get a better view of color - no enlarged pics)

The other colors are too light. Cat hair will show. We currently have sage (different fabric and company). Nothing wrong with it ...just wondering if I should be different.

I love the wine color. I don't think you'll have to worry about gaudy at all. We have a very similar color in our bedding and I've loved it (except we have a WHITE cat so we always see her hair . . .)
Yeah... our present sage comforter doesn't show any hair at all, but i tried to put on some light pink sheets the other day (didn't have time to wash the sheets that go with comforter) ...and within a few hours, there was cat hair ALLLLLLLLLL over it. Makes it look so dirty.
8) The wine color would be beatuiful. The sage is pretty also. Let us know which one you pick.
Would it suck to get a king size for a queen size bed? Husband always says he'd prefer a larger comforter, and we've talked about upgrading to king, but it wouldn't be this year. Downfall is, we once got a king size comforter, and I felt like I had a large brick on me at night when trying to find the end of to stick my feet out (HATE to have feet covered). However, it was a super itchy comforter, so there were many reasons why I hated it. This particular king size doesn't look that much bigger at all.....
I like the wine color, what other colors will you use?
???

suggestions?
I've had a king on a queen bed before and I preferred the bigger comforter. Plus, when you get a king bed later, you've still got a comforter that works. (Well, if it survives until that time).

On a side note, I do not understand how two adults can sleep in anything smaller than a king bed on a long term basis. I can see you guys not wanting to bother with a bigger bed since he's gone so much now but, in general, I don't know how anyone could stand it!
l like cream and wine with small touches of sage. That way it's softer looking without being too feminine.
There nice, the wine colour and sage are both lovely. We call them Doona covers here.

It wasn't until we had lil J that I finally agreed the bed is too small. My husband has been fighting and fighting for a king, but I saw no reason in it since I like to cuddle and don't want him so far away (my reasoning). Then we got Yuki and he felt this would surely make me want a king b/c there wasn't enough room for Yuki. Little did he know that I had no problems with saying, "that's fine then yuki sleeps in the kitchen." Then we got our horizontal sleeper son and somehow yuki inched her way back into our bed plus all our other animals. ALL the animals except for my maltese like to sleep on my side of the bed because I'm cooler than my heater husband. I AM MISERABLE and now want a king.

Just ordered the king wine. Hope it looks good and my husband likes it.
I love andy shade of wine; however, I'm not sure how it will look with your dark furniture. We have had a burgundy blanket and dust ruffle on our bed and we have cherry furniture and oak flooring. I finally realized that it just makes the room look too dark. Granted our walls are also a taupe color which is darker, but I really think it's the red that is blending in with the headboard and floor. Everyone has different tastes, but just my thoughts :D
All thoughts are important ...as long as I think they have taste and I think you do lol

If it's too dark, I will definitely return it and look for other options. Normally I go to overstock but they do not ship any of their comforters here. No luck at nordstroms or jcpenny either. I would LOVE a westin "heavenly bed" comforter, but it only comes in white.
I have a wine colored duvet cover, and it is very nice. Our cat hair shows up badly - he's mostly a white cat with a black tail. For variety, I have a white crocheted bedspread in a loose and airy stitch and I put it over the duvet cover - very nice look!
The Egyptian cotton sounds great. Our cover is regular cotton. :( But I do have a sheet set of the Egyptian cotton and it is the absolute best set I have ever had!
The cost indicates that it's definitely not really 1000 tc, and they (consumer reports) that anything more than 400 tc is pointless. Assuming the 400 tc is the real deal as so many places claim it, but it feel like a normal crappy sheet. I want it because it's what I was looking for and am hoping it's feels soft. :)
My egypt. cotton has a sheen to it, and it is super soft. It was REALLY expensive, but I bought it at an auction and got a great deal. The price tag was still on the package, so I know what it was supposed to sell for! 8O

I have my down comforter in mine, but an inexpensive option are the comforters from IKEA. They are plain white and made to go inside covers. That way you could get a king size one at a decent price.
I got an 800 tc pillow case and it is nice.... :D
Hubby and I have a queen size been and a King size feather duvet. I am such a cover theif, he wouldn't want it any other way. Our duvet is not heavy at all, since it is feather. The really great thing about it is being able to change the fabric for different times of the year, so we use ours in the swealtring heat of the summer and in the frigid (for KS anyway) winter.

My thoughts are the same on the wine as Stacy's, it might be too dark. Just remember to look at all of your sheets and bed skirt colors before ordering, you'd hate to have to order all new sheets...

My favorite linens are the Hotel Collections. A bit pricey through Pottery Barn, but you can get the exact same ones from Marshells for a fraction of the price. I will have to look at IKEA.
I didn't like the wine. I'm going to return it monday Nothing really wrong with it... felt like a baby's butt when I touched it and I would totally recommend the company, nice quality, but didn't add pa-zazz to our bedroom.

So I'm getting this one now. My justification is... it's on sale (even if not as much of a discount as I'd want).
I brought my laptop into my bedroom and I really think it will compliment our furniture. We'll see...

I do like this better! :D Much more interesting, and a very warm, cozy color! I use a lot of this "copper" sort of color in my house, and if you are still looking for color-combo ideas, it looks WONDERFUL with deep plum, blue-purple, and burgundy! 8)
Are you returning the one with wine or dog pee?

Oh wait, that was Darcy and Brian's thing.
I like this one. (although the other link never worked for me so I have nothing to compare it to)

We have 2 pottery barn duvet covers. The first one was linen and it ripped REALLY easily. Like the cat walked on it and it had tears. So we returned it and got a cotton one, which I really like still, the only problem is that it gets really wrinkled after I wash it.
Bleh.. I hate things that wrinkle so fast. I hear the higher the thread count, the more they tend to wrinkle. I hope ours doesn't if I take it out of the dryer super fast.
Well, we got 2 sets of 'nice' sheets for our wedding from Pottery Barn and they're gorgeous, but we usually end up using the Target ones we have more because even if I am hovering at the dryer and hear it go off and grab the sheets (or duvet cover) and immediately take them out, they wrinkle (and hold on to a lot of lint).

It could just be our washer and maybe other sheets and duvets from there are fine. I still love mine, and I'm planning on getting another duvet cover from them in the near future, so it's not that bad.

My husband and I sleep in a double. When we stay in hotels, it's usually a queen or larger and it feels like an ocean between us. We started out sleeping in the same twin sized bed. If we went to bed mad, we definitely didn't stay that way.....
We have a king. Norm loves to cuddle but not me...... I am the heater in this family. I cannot stand to have anything/one touching me when i sleep and will wake up the minute something brushes me........ well that is except for Peepers the kitty here.

What i have been doing is deciding on what color for my room...... i have gone with pale creamy yellow and blue. There is a toile pattern of these 2 colors. I ordered enough at the local fabric store to make curtains, cover 2 lamp shades and make 2 Duvet covers. Basically I only have one side of the fabric, then go buy a king flat sheet and make my own Duvet covers. I do 2 of them so I can have one clean, and one on the bed.......

The down comforter i have, i have had over 20 years now. I have sent it off to be re 'fluffed' twice over the years with more down added..... This last time they told me i needed to 'think' about just buying a new one........ lol. it is threadbare.
The new duvet cover + PB comforter to go inside has been the BEST PURCHASE EVER!! Oh my gosh, the second I put it in my room, the colors just blended all together.

Only problem is... our mattress and headboard are still on the dang floor since we haven't found the right missing plate thing that hooks the side panels to bedframe and headboard. So...... the comforter comes 1/8th an inch from touching the ground. Guess I'll have to wait for husband to come home to buy an entirely new bedframe ...and we'll just go w/o our nice headboard. sigh.

QUESTION Says to wash the comforter in front loading washing machine. How do I know if I have one? Also says to put tennis balls in the dryer to prevent scorching when drying. Do they mean ...tennis balls?  ...or are they designed specifically for dryers or something?

You have a front loading machine if it loads in the front. If it doesn't, it's a top loader, as it loads from the top.
YEP!!! TENNIS BALLS!!!

Pay someone to fabricate them for you. Alaska is filled with people who can do that kind of handiwork for short money.

Okay, I cant help but laugh  ...L are you SURE youre not blonde????????????

and yes tennis balls!!

and Ron, the duvet HAS been cleaned and is now in the FRONT bedroom
I really had no idea.
Something that size will have to go the the laundromat. They usually have extra large washers (front loading) perfect for comforters and rugs. The tennis balls help fluff the comforter as it tumbles.........another reason to go to the laudromat.....those big dryers!!

Nope...that size comforters fit into my washer and dryer....I have the Kenmore Elite front loaders.....they are the BEST washing machines EVER! I have had mine for about 7 years now and I do at LEAST 4-5 loads of laundry a day. We only had one problem in those 7 years and Sears replaced the pump and motor for free!
When I wash my comforter I always wash a pair of sneakers at the same time. Then throw them all in the dryer. The sneakers fluff up the comforter.
L--I have PB duvet covers and I wash them in our machine. And ours is top loading. And it is fine. Oh, and we have these 2 nubby blue round ball things that you put into the dryer, which I assume does the same thing as the tennis balls. You can get them at Bed Bath and Beyond or other places like that.
barney, I think the duvet covers say you can wash them anywhere, but this is for the PB comforter. Do you also wash the comforter in the your washing machine?
ah---I see. Our comforter is down, so I only have it dry cleaned.
