We're moving

Well everyone, we're moving.
It's not my dream home, but it is bigger, and it will do for the next few years until we find our dream home.
We've been looking to buy, and houses have been selling like hotcakes, the prices are climbing higher and higher because interest rates have been so low, and we missed a few opportunities, so we decided to rent instead. There are a couple of theories behind this, for one, we are concerned that with the huge boom in house sales around here, the interest rates will go sky high and people will be losing their homes, and we don't want to be one of those people. Renting for a few years, maybe 2 or 3 will give us the chance to save a bigger downpayment and a bigger nest egg, in the event that something like that does happen we will be more prepared.
This house is not one I would buy, but rent, yes.
It's all happening very fast, and we only have 8 days to pack and move! I have to have it all done before my surgery, hence the rush. Our official moving date is August 29th, so between now and then I won't be on the forum as much, and I'm not sure if there will be any time between the 28th and Sept 1st where I will be without internet, or if it will be able to be done at the same time.
It's not far from where we live now, but 2 out of 4 children will be changing schools, which I am happy about, as I am not pleased at all with the school they have been in. The 2 older children we be staying in the junior highschool, though it will be a bit of a longer walk for them.
I'm not quite sure how I'm going to manage packing for 6 people, and getting everything ready in time! We've got a little house, but so much stuff packed into it! Time to declutter while I pack! (flybabies will understand this one best!)
I hate the house I'm in, I always have, but now that it's time to leave, I realize there are some very happy memories I'll be leaving behind. Kind of an emotional rollercoaster I guess....
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you guys.... and hey, I told all of you before I even called my mother, so what does that say for the wonderful group here?! :)
Wish me luck! :)

I'm glad you found a bigger place. It will be good for all of you to have more room. lol Hope the moving and packing goes smoothly. Don't forget child labor is great :D hope you recover quickly from surgery. keep us posted as you can.

I haven't heard back yet about the house that I want. The offer was made tuesday (my bday) and they have about a week to accept. I've got my fingers crossed.

Hi Stacey,

I am glad you found something acceptable to you. You are doing everything wisely though, the bigger downpayment you can save the better off you will be. I understand though about not liking your house, but still missing certain events that took place there. I have moved so many times I probably couldn't count them all on my fingers and toes. Most of that was before marriage though. I have packed up 2 kids and 2 cats, but I can see how 2 more kids and now the pups, and Cleo and the kittens could be even more of a hassle when moving. I always say though you find out your true friends when the time comes to move. LOL I wish you the best on your move. Remember if you haven't used it in a year, toss it. LOL

Hi Cher,

I hope that you get some good news about the house you bid on. AND Happy Belated Birthday! Please let us know when you get the news, we will have fingers and paws crossed for you. LOL

Good luck to you both, Stormi and co.
Good luch Willowsprite. Our housing down here has moved up in price at rapid pace lately too. Just remember that sometimes "Change is good". It leads to a new rejuvenized spirit.

Wow... I've spent the last 3 hours on hold for the most part, while I have been calling all the companies to switch over my services. I've arranged for the gas company, hydro, water, phone, cell phone, internet, cable to all be switched over. I'll have to be at this house on the 31st to allow them all in to read meters for my final bills from this address, and be at the new house on the 30th to get everything on there. LOL
And *gasp* I will be without internet from 4am till 10am on August 30th. LOL
Ah well. I think I will survive 6 hours without checking in, lol, but barely!
I've called the school that my children will be attending, and gotten no answer so hopefully they will call back soon and I can get all that sorted out. The only problem there, is I want to put my kids into the Catholic school, and I don't know if they will let me since they have always gone to public schools? I really hope they will, I think it will be better for them, and it is much closer to our new house, they won't have to cross any busy streets.
I've packed some of the kitchen so far. My youngest Aaron is packing his room, lol, my daughter went shopping (what else is new  ) and my 11 yr old is playing video games. Our 12 yr old boy is at rehearsal for the play he is doing, West Side Story.... so now I have to get my butt in gear and get some stuff done!
Anyone have some energy to spare?
Willowsprite,

Moving is hard, but I love to unpack and redecorate a new place. I just moved into my house last year, and will most likely be there for some time, so I will miss having a "new" home to decorate. Good luck.

Were in Ontario do you live? What area would do too, I know its a big place! My parents have a home on lake erie outside Port Colbourne. I was up there a few weeks ago and was up in Toronto. Growing up I spent every summer up there in Ontario on the lake and have some great memories.
Stacey, what happens with your current house? Are you gonna sell it? I thought you owned it, right? Hope you don't have to pay a mortgage and rent! I would label all the boxes by color: green-bedroom, blue-living room, etc. Makes is much easier to unpack. Good luck and keep us posted! :D
Stacey-
Congrats on the new place! Though I don't envy you trying to move all the kids, animals and stuff. Wow you really are a Wonderwoman.
Best of luck at the new digs.

Nope, we don't own it, renting... it was supposed to be temporary...lol.... going on 4 years later....
And I am labelling all the boxes, kitchen, Ashley's room, Livingroom etc...
I'm also so tired my labelling has gotten kind of amusing, after I just took a look at one box in front of me while reading your post I had to laugh.... it says "assorted crap, wherever" LOL
My cousins' husband would like me to label every third box "time for a beer" LOL
Congratulations Stacey!!! Moving is a very exciting time and stressful time. My son will have his closing on Tuesday and will then move out with his fiance. I have been on an emotional rollercoaster here. My dauhter moved from Fl to Nebraska to start her internship for her doctorate. My son got engaged and will be moving out, he will be close but it is not the same. Oreo will be our only child. Memories are good for you as you will always have them and never have to pack them when you move. Wishing you the best in your new home, sheepie hugs and Oreo kisses, Dolores & Oreo

Thanks.... no wondernuthin though...lol.... I have done soooo much packing and yet I feel like I haven't accomplished anything. There are lots of boxes stacked everywhere I look already, and yet I've barely dented what needs to be done. I have an extensive cd collection, 200 of which were in my cd player and had to be taken out and put back in the appropriate cases, that took a while! The other 4000 and some are already in their cases... good thing too or I'd just toss em as is in boxes...lol

I've had more sad moments than I expected too.... kind of caught me off guard I must admit as I am normally a fairly level and balanced person, and keep emotions under tight control. I realized while digging through old pictures and letters from friends back home (Leamington Ontario, close to the Michigan border, and about 6 hours from here) that by moving out of this house and into another one still in this town, that I really am not going back. To Leamington. I feel so homesick...lol... I should stop whining, sorry, I just never expected to feel this way. I think a huge part of me has always held onto Leamington, always believed I'd only be here as long as I needed to be and then would go back home. Home. So I guess by taking this house I've admitted I'm not going home. It's kind of letting go of it again.....
So how is the packing going? :D
Quick check in....
I am sooooo tired and sore! LOL
The animals are having a ball with all the boxes.... Winston loves cardboard and has been trying each one out.
I have packed most of my kitchen, most of my livingroom except for the video game systems, and have gotten a good start on my room, the desk was the most time consuming! The only time I clean it out and sort through it all is when I move! LOL So many loose little odds and ends, little bits of paper that I saved for who knows why, lol.... but it's done. My computer looks lonely now that it doesn't have a mountain of stuff surrounding it.
The bookcases are packed, wow, I didn't realize how many books we have!
My daughter has been packing her room and I'm not really sure how she could have so many boxes full and still have so much junk all over the place! My sons rooms will be fairly easy to do, since I de-cluttered them not too long ago. Their toys are in big rubbermaid bins, and their dinky cars and action figures are organized in old cat litter plasitc buckets, cleaned of course.
I'm still trying to figure out where to place the litterboxes in the house. I'm not really sure what is going to be the best spot... I also don't know what to do about the guinea pigs and where to place them. I don't want their big hutch in Ashley's room because they make a mess kicking shavings etc out, and here we just sweep it up since it is hardwood floors, but in the new house it is all brand new carpet upstairs and i don't want the carpet to absorb any odor from the piggies. We may try to build a different hutch, perhaps molded plastic so that it won't absorb odor and is easier to clean, as well as preventing them from making a mess.
Anyway, time to feed the dirt trolls, and I need coffee.....
Have the animals help! When we moved, Norman kept putting toys in every box. We'd walk over and put something in a box then he would come over and put a ball in the box. He looked very sad whe we would take them out and throw them aside. Guess he thought we were leaving him behind. :)
That sounds cute, Dancer is doing the opposite though, taking stuff out of boxes. LOL
Well, I just finished packing my bedroom closet, man did I have a lot of crap in there! I can't believe how many coats I have that I haven't worn in years! And I though my husband was a bad pack rat! I have just filled 2 giant green garbage bags with clothes of my own that I don't want anymore. Those size one shorts, lol, ya, like my butt is ever going to fit into those again! Ha!
Anyway, allergies are going crazy, time to take another antihistamine.....
Then I'm off to pack the bathroom before it's time to make supper...
I keep thinking, oh, wow, I've got a lot done, but then I think of the garage, and the basement, those two alone are going to be full day jobs each. And I still haven't cleaned out the fridge and oven, they both need a good scrubbing before we move them. *sigh*
By the way, i know this has nothing to do with me moving, but did anyone else notcie we broke the record this morning for the most users online? Woo hooo !
Hmmmmm..... Are you sure you're in the right week?

When there are super high numbers like that (more than say, 15 or 20), it's usually Googlebot and/or MSNbot and/or Gigablast's bot and/or Yahoo's bot reading the pages to index them.

I see the 36 on the 15th of August on the front page -- were there more on when you looked?
Ok, duh, my time is lost. I didn't even realize it is already the 22nd... I thought for a moment today was the 15th, I guess i just didn't notice it before... LOL
I don't know why I thought that since moving day is the 29th and I certainly can't forget that!
And tomorrow is my cat Winston's 5th birthday! :) It is also my first sheepdog Micaela's 7th birthday :(
Well here goes... another day. It's early, and I couldn't sleep much, but I have empty boxes and stuff to go in them, so here we go! LOL
I am determined to clean my fridge today. That has been one thing I keep saying I am going to do and haven't done yet, so I'm making it a priority for today.
I also have to get a hold of the landlord and see if he has gotten the previous tenants stuff out yet! I stopped by the house last night to see, and nothing has been done yet so I'm a little concerned. He had said it would all be out by last night.....
Anyway.... time to get stuff done....
LOL, I thought I was rushed before!
We just found out that the ONLY day we can get a truck is Wednesday at 5pm till Thursday at 5pm. All the college students are coming back to town so every company is booked solid. So, now we're moving Wednesday night, Thursday is no good because all of the people who are helping have to work.
So, I now have 52 hours to pack and move. I haven't eaten properly in days, so I gave up on that and got some meal in a cup type shakes, that are totally disgusting, but will give me the energy I need. We're going to get the rest of the house done tonight, the basement and garage tomorrow and Wednesday morning, and then take apart all the beds and stuff Wednesday afternoon.
I am going to call our phone company and see if they will be able to switch over our phone and internet service, but I doubt they will. I think we'll just be without it for a few days since it's already set up for changing over on Monday.
This is insane! I just finished making all the phone calls and tossing stuff into boxes from the kitchen, lol, now I'm going to go do the bathroom...
ttys all
Well, moving day is tomorrow. Wow.
I think I'm ready. Almost everything is packed, though I'm sure we'll find some last minute odds and ends, and I've pulled out all the furniture and cleaned all the dust bunnies to save me some time later. I scrubbed my fridge inside and out and have all the food packed, in boxes in the fridge and freezer. Garage and basement are done, and boy did I de clutter!!!
All I have left to do now is clean my stove and oven, pack the last dishes and clothes in the morning, and roll up the bedding in the morning and put it into bags. I still haven't gone over to the new house to scrub it down, but we have all day tomorrow to do that since we can't get the truck till 5pm.
So, I think tonight and maybe a bit of tomorrow morning will be the last of my internet for a few days, till Monday anyway. :*(
I'll miss you guys!
I think I pulled something in my stomach as well.... not sure what or how, but it is really sore, sharp stabbing pain on my right side.... ah well, new house has all brand new bathroom reno :) So I'm looking forward to a hot bath in my brand new tub! :)
Good Luck!!!! I'll be thinking of you and hope the transition/move will go smoothly! I hope the new house is easier for you - and for the dogs!

Hopefully you didn't get a hernia moving things! I'm sure the last thing you need right now is to have to have a hernia repair!

Don't forget to pack all the animals!!!

Kristen
Thanks... well, whatever was sore is ok now, but I'm not sure if my nerves are shot or if I'm getting the flu, I feel awful.
Anyway, this will be my last check in I think, so if I can't pop back on later I'll see you all in a few days!
Stacey,

We are thinking about you, and hoping for the quickest, painless move for you. Don't overdo it. My hubby has hernia surgery just a few months back and it is not fun at all! Give your family a supportive hug from me and we all can't wait to hear how you are doing in your new house. Good luck, Stormi and co.
Good luck with your move and hope the dust settles quickly and painlessly!

Royandelby
Oh we will miss you too, Stacey! Sounds like you got everything done! Wish you you and your family much luck and happiness in your new house! :D
Hi Willowsprite,

It's me Marianne - my computer finally died and went to computer heaven so I'm using my son's at the moment. (Forgot my password as I always just logged on automatically.)

I just wanted to say good luck with your move and WOW I never am ceased to be amazed by your busy household, which sounds even busier than ever at the moment. I hope everyone will be settled in by the time school starts and you can get some much needed rest.

Good Luck!!

Marianne and the boys
Willowsprite sent me an email from her cell. I hope she meant her phone, and not her new place of residence. Anyway, she wanted me to say hello to everyone, and tell you that she expects to be back online by Monday.

So here goes:

Yeay! I miss her already! Hope all is going well! Thanks Ron! :D
Hey Stacey- I know you won't read til Monday, but I hope the move went well and I hope you are feeling better. I say lay in your new bed and have all your furbabies comfort you. Hopefully your unpacking is not as urgent. Tell us how all the animals adjust to the new digs.
Sue
I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!!! :)
Missed you guys like crazy!
Where should I start? Hmmm.... the move went well, nothing broken, no one hurt, though all of us were sore for a few days. We got the truck finally at 6pm Wed. night, and began loading it right away. I de cluttered a lot, but it took us 3 hours to have everything loaded for the first load (no, it wouldn't all fit in a 26 foot truck) I was totally amazed at how much junk we had crammed into that tiny house! We had to come back for a second load, and we finished unloading everything by about midnight. After everyone went home I had to go back for four more trips to get all the animals, my last trip was to get the dogs, but they had peed in their crates and had to be bathed before I brought them home. I finally got home around 2:30am I think, and then had to settle the animals in and give them time to sniff around and figure things out. I finally got to bed about 4am, and couldn't sleep, because my new room is a huge room off the kitchen, at the back of the house, my old room was at the front of the house, so there were street lights and traffic, here it is pitch black darkness surrounded by trees and all I can hear is the river. LOL. My new room is lined almost every wall with windows, so I guess I expected more light. I'm as blind as can be in the dark, so it was a little disconcerting. LOL
I'm used to it already though.
We've been slowly unpacking, I've been too exhausted to do it at any other pace, lol. We're almost there though, and hubby can finish up while I'm recuperating from surgery tomorrow.
The new house is freshly painted, no more purple doors!!! We need to finish painting the upstairs hall and one wall of my son Tyler's room, but it shouldn't take long. My computer now has a room of it's own! I love it, it lives on my desk, and there are bookcases and a futon couch in the room, as well as the aquarium and the iguana's terrarium. The kitchen is huuuuge, my husband and I have made a joke out of saying "hello over there!" from one end of the kitchen to the other, lol. That will wear off soon I'm sure. The dogs are kept gated in the kitchen during the day and in our room at night for now, untill housetraining is completed. We have Sky's crate beside our bed, and Dancer's crate hasn't been set up yet, but it will be in the kitchen when it is. Housetraining is going well for both, Dancer still needs to be watched like a hawk, but she is making progress.
The kids bedrooms are all upstairs, and the only thing I really don't like is that there is only one bathroom, and it is on the main floor so it makes me nervous if they need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. We've just been leaving the light at the top of the stairs on at night though and so far so good. The yard is a good size, and fenced on 3 sides, so we just have to fence in the fourth side. We have a nice deck, shaded by huge trees, which is very pretty to look at with the leaves all changing now. There are also 2 maple trees in the front yard, as well as one red (dark purple-black leaves) maple. We are footsteps from the river, and even though this is a developed street, it looks so natural, so cottage like, by the river. I'm going to take my camera for a walk through the yard and along the river to show you pics, as soon as I find it. LOL
Surgery is tomorrow, I am not supposed to eat or drink anything after 11pm tonight, and then I have to be at the hospital by 10:30 am. The kids are staying with my cousin for the day so my husband can be with me, and he will go pick them up later. I'm not going to stay in the hospital if I can help it, I'd rather recup at home. I've been internet deprived for so long, ack... didn't like that at all! It looks like I have tons to catch up on though so I guess I better get started! LOL
Thank you all for the well wishes! :)
Still can't find my camera and it's getting dark now so I guess new pics will have to wait a few days.... hopefully I won't be off my feet for too long... I'm starting to get kinda nervous about surgery tomorrow... I hate being put under...lol...
Stacey, don't worry! Everything will be okay. Going under is not fun, but I had surgery twice and it turned out fine. The worse part is the first 10-15 minutes. We will pray that everthing will turn out well, and please update us when you can get to the computer. You know me, I'll be worried. :?
Ha ha, that's the good part about making networking a priority during the move...lol... the laptop can go anywhere that I want to be.... I'll be here a LOT I think, since I won't be able to do much of anything else... and if my first few posts seem a little loopy, please forgive the painkillers...
Uuurrrr, pain killers! LOL Just kidding.
