hi benji here -- tiki fluid burns on skin contact!

well heres a story for you ,benji has been at it again ,
i purchased some tiki fluid from orchard supply and left it near front door inside house was about to put it away when i noticed it was missing ,and benji was going bonkers running around like crazy i went out to back lawn
and found the bottle on its side with about half of it missing i panicked \
i could smell the stuff on his paw and face so i imeidiately set off to
emergency praying he hadnt drank any, apparenty he had stepped in it when it leaked on lawn and his paw was swolen and infected from tiki fluid unknown to me it would do that on skin contact so he was in pain
i felt realy bad so the vet released him aftre a bunch of tests lungs etc he had elevated temp due to
pain so he gave him a shot shaved his left foot and i haev to give him pain meds as needed and powder his toes to stop infection he wasnt happy yesterday i gave him pain meds to stop him licking it he was knocked out almost all day last night he seamed to bounce back and want to
play aftre he ate a huge meal as he hadnt eaten all day he is back on track im glad i caught it that quick it could have been a lot worse .
i was very worried about him.
almost at panick stage due to possible drinking it
he must have dragged it out the house it was a gallong probably punctued it on the way out sheesh
anyway i now now it burns on skin contact especially when you cant clean it off with all that hair
im calm now i think ????

my guess is tiki torch fluid...lights on fire?
That's very scary but it sounds like Benji will be o.k. Monitor him for the next 24 hours, and watch his paw. I guess this is a lesson to us all that dogs (and other animals) can get into anything.
Wow - I'm glad the vet as able to help immediately. Scary!
Glad he's okay!
Happy that he is ok :D
I just did the same thing and my dog has the fluid on his paws. Do you have any secrets? I bathed him with Dawn dish soap but he is pacing and clearly distressed. I'm so worried that I have poisoned my dog.
Tiki oil will vary. Some is liquid parafin which is a very highly refined kerosene. Other lamp oil is citronella oil which has minimal toxicity.....in small amounts. No telling what a concentrated dermal dunking would do. So sounds like you had kerosene burns. Ouch.

Yeah, with dogs......like kids........everything dangerous must be kept in locked cabinets. Just think of your dog as a perpetual curious 2 year old child.

If your dog is clearly distressed you need to take him to the Vet. Not something to mess with.
Scary stuff! Glad he's okay.
