Urinating in the water dish

My two year old OES has always had a small bladder. Whenever she gets excited or after a good romp she has to GO! - The community water bowl is acutally a childs sand box. It works out well here on the farm because it serves as a nice cool down spot as well as thirst quencher. Except for one problem. Occationally, she drinks from the pool and then squats in it!? I have seen dogs urinate in there water dishs before and that behavior has always puzzled me. Anyone know what the heck they are thinking?

She doesn't urinate in her water, but if there is a puddle she squats in it. When we walk the ponds, she squats in them too. She walks on our pool cover which usually has water on it, and guess what? She squats on it and has even pooped on it when she was 5 months old. I don't get it either. Maybe it just feels better. Any others have researched info on this?

Well I've never experienced this, but I would suggest if they start to squat when near a water source that you guide then to an aternate site.
Oakley, our 3 year old OES, was really easy to house train and has never had an accident in the house since he has been trained. When we take him up to the cottage....he always runs into the lake to urinate. He never does this at home...we back onto a creek and walk by a lake everyday. Its a strange habit he has had since you was a puppy!
