Kentucky Derby

Saturday is the big derby day! I know lots of people have Kentucky Derby parties with mint julieps (sp?) and all.

I always thought the Derby was sort of romantic. Down south with everyone dressed to the nines.

Does anyone here do anything to celebrate the derby?

We usually have a barn Derby party but somehow it slipped under the radar. I really don't care for horse racing.

Bob the Wonder Pony's grandfather is Foolish Pleasure, who won the Derby in 1975.
I can't wait... I love watching the Triple Crown races :)
Wow! Tell Bob I'm impressed!

I'm thinking of putting roses in Keira's fur...but I think she'd just eat them.
We do - it's tradition. I love the Triple Crown races, too, but the Derby is my favorite by far. :D
Used to love horse racing, but I've seen too many injuries now can't stand it.

Still, party hardy! Whatever excuse there is for a party is grand!
I like to watch the races too.

Wow, Bob is a real celebrity!!! Woo-hoo!!
I have a large Tea Hat for these special occassions. 8)
Dawn, I bought Bob when I lived in Minneapolis. He was born in Waverly. Is that close to you?
Waverly is a little town just west of Minneapolis. Almost on the Wright/Mcleod/Carver County lines. (where they meet)
It's about a 2 hr drive from me. I didn't know Bob was a MN boy! :D
I love the Darby!!

Actually i grew up in New Mexico with both Quarter Horse and Thouroghbred horse racing in Ruidoso NM at the downs. Every weekend.

Both are beautiful in their own ways....... I love a long race,,,,, but the short ones are exciting too.......

Quarter horses also have a triple crown racing too.......

I've often thought of naming dogs after some of the horses names i've seen.
HEY! WHO KNEW!!!! bob is from here in MN??? You shoulda told us earlier. who knows, I may have seen some relatives of his last weekend at the horse expo! Or maybe running at Canterbury park? (Dawn, did you come up for the expo?)

Christina and I are going to watch the derby together. but no mint juleps for me! :D

You can have mint and soda water...although who knows what that would taste like... 8)
Hummm.... don't think that's quite the same. I'll have some nice fresh made lemonade instead!
No, we didn't make it up to the Expo this year. :(
We had 2 wedding showers for LeAnne - one Sat, one Sun. Had a good time doing that though.
How was the Expo this year? It was so much fun the past years we have gone.
went to a derby party with derby and won 14.00 whopee more treat for him
How fun! And congrats!

It was a really good race. And...I loved seeing the queen in her lime green coat, and lime green and hot pink hot!
