Dixie and Bosley with 2 young boys...

We are baby-sitting since yesterday afternoon. My cousins boys are 3 and 7 are staying with us last nite overnite and all day today... They are not doggie-savvy and my dogs are not kid-savvy...Makes for an interesting time... 8O

Dixie was sooo excited and barked and play-bowed and jumped and barked ....for quite a long time. Bosley is a bit too indulgent with big, slobbering kisses for the boys..

I have filled thier Kongs, frozen, with kibble, yougurt, leftover hambuger meat so they have some down time, where they can chill. As soon as they are emptied I fill them again and freeze them so they are ready in a few hoaurs again.

The baby gates I have set up are a blessing....

The 3 year old is autistic, so he has a safe place where the pooches can't get to him while playing with his cars in the living room that is barricaded from the dogs, anyway. The 7 year old is spending a lot of time in the family room playing video games.

Bosley is great with them. He is like a big, bumbling bear, and takes the awkward handling that they dish out...and keeps coming back for more. He is really enjoying them. The younger one couldn't understand that the big pillow on the floor was Bosley's bed, so he kept stealing it out from under him...Poor Bosley didn't understand why so he finally just asked to leave the room....

Dixie needs to be watched 100% and I have to be within 2 feet of her with them all the time. She is so wiggly and hyper, and although she loves the attention they give her, she spooks very easily, so I don't want her to be scared. But she does not resource-guard at all, so I feel very comfortable about her not bothered by the kids around her when she is quietly absorbed with her Kong. She even wags her nub like crazy when one of the boys walks by her and her Kong...

The dogs have to be separated a lot as I don't want them running around playing and possibly knocking a child over, and the dogs often have to be separated from the kids when we are doing something.
On top of that it is raining outside, so we are all stuck in the house...

But so far so good, and I am so happy that the pooches are trained to lay down on the floor during meal-times so no big noses at kid-level plates of food......

Is the day over yet???? I want my house back.....

Glad to hear it's going well Nicole.
Way to go Bosley and Dixie! :clappurple:
Wow - you're busy! Have fun keeping it up!!!
I bet you are exhausted!! Hang in there! It sounds like Bosley and Dixie are doing a great job but I bet they are ready to have things back to normal as well!

My best friends little girl was terrified of my dogs when she was little. They didn't have dogs at the time and the only other dogs she was around were small dogs. They would come to my house and my boys would of course go to greet them and the child would SCREAM. The boys were like "WHOA! What did we do?". She now has dogs of her own and is a totally different kid. :D
sounds like all 4 are getting along fine but a busy time for you
Well. I don't know why, but both boys fell asleep watching a movie this afternoon. The 7 yr old slept for 2 hours and the 3 yr old slept for over 3 hours!

He is so cute, he calls Bosley...Boswee.....  And when he says Dixie it sounds like Sexey....

Dixie is quiet now with the boys, but I think she is afraid of the little one. Bosley is just interested in the diaper and the snacks...

Parents should be here in an hour....

Whoops...gotta go! The DVD's are all being thrown down from the shelves!!!
Ah, the joys of young children and dogs!! Never a dull moment!

Sounds like the dogs loved having the kids over.
I see a future for Bosley. Sheepie babysitters. They take payment in doggie treats.
