Eating the loofa - silly girl

So on Wednesday night Miley decided to eat the body loofa (spelling?) I use. It is essentially made of plastic netting. We don't kennel at night and this is the first thing she has really chewed. My first thought was hey this is not as bad as shoes but I guess in the long run shoes would have been better - those don't get swalled.

She is interested in eating, has vomited only 1 Thursday morning (very small amount) and but this morning she was acting very constipated. So I was starting to think that she might have a blockage. So off to the vet we went and we spent the afternoon with the emergency vet and are still don't know much.

The vet did labs (blood work) and xray looking for gas pockets and all looks normal.

The emergency vet was recommending either taking her home ( which I did) or put her on IV and keeping her at the vets to see if she keeps the food down. Since she only vomited once I took her home. I know that she is drinking and is eating just not the normal 2 cups I give at each meal. The same ermergency vet will be on call all weekend so he has assured me that the might her condition would turn we could bring her in.

Since I was sleeping while she chewed I don't know if she actully swallowed anything or just shredded it. We have her on an Metronidazole as a broad specturm antibodic. The vet did think it might be cloitus and not from the loofa.

We are on a wait and see approach. I am hoping that no surgury will be needed but that is the next step.

Why do they feel the need to each such silly things.

Oh good Lord. :( :(

I have you in my thoughts.
We are sending good thoughts and hugs. I know how scary it can be when you fnd them chewing on something and its shredded. Did they digest it or not?
You won't be getting much sleep these next few days........I'm so sorry about this. Well, their constitutions are pretty tough.........I hope if anything went down, it passes quickly.
I hope she's going to be okay and that it doesn't cause a blockage.
I hope Miley's feeling OK. Hopefully she only chewed it up - and didn't eat that much.
Oh Miley! Hope she is feeling better soon! Remember to inspect that BM really well, so SUPER FUN! LOL

Hopefully she chewed it really well!
Wow - it's so scary not knowing what's going on, isn't it? I always wonder if Bingley will make a gab for a sock when we aren't looking. Keep us updated!
It is so scary when the pooches swallow something foreign! Dudster's (Brenda) Dudley has had several operations to remove stuff... 8O

But I feel kind of stupid here, but....um.....er......ah.......what is a loofa? I have no clue what she ate...
A loofa is one of those bath sponges. The kind of messy ones. They usually come on a rope.
Thanks for your good thoughts.

She seems to be doing just fine. No more vomitting and is has fairly normal BMs. She is still does not have a great appetitie but will eat if I hand feed her. So I think her tummy maybe a little upset but she is on her way to getting better.

Thanks for your concerns

Wonderful news! :yay:
I hope Miley is on the mend. Silly girl - don't eat stuff like that!
Yikes! Glad to hear she is doing ok!
Glad to hear Miley is on the road to recovery! It's so scary when these furkids eat something foreign!!
Yay Miley! :cheer: Way to chew that loofah!!! :D
Glad to hear everthing is working out in the end for Miley (little bowel obstruction humor).

It is very scary when you puppers has eaten something they shouldn't have.. and you wait and wait for it to come out or up.
