Food and Water in Crate??

Tomorrow will be the first time we leave Milton home alone for a few hours. He will have breakfast before we leave for work and will be let out after about 3 hours for a potty break and a little play then will be back in for a couple of more hours . Should he have access to a small amount of water while he is in his crate or will he get enough when he is out inbetween and after we are home?

I always leave water but not food. If you are only gone a short time I'm sure he would be ok without water (and it might prevent an accident) but I would not leave him any more than a few hours without water.
When I go out I leave water in Scarlet's crate for her, but she is not just crated, I have an xpen attached to the crate where I have pee pads just incase she has to go. So the space she has is roughly the size of 2 crates. The crate with blankets and towels and the xpen with the pee pads. She is the first dog I have done this with. All my other dogs were just crated. Lately tho she hasn't needed the pee pads, she waits until I get home. I am never out for much longer than 2 hours at a time tho.

I wouldn't leave food unless you want to come home to a real mess
Water, definitely. I have a bowl that attaches to the side of the crate which is really convenient. No food though.
With my other dogs I found giving food or water in the crate when I went to work led to accidents, when I stopped doing that the accidents in the crate stopped.
Bree has spent very little time in a crate and I am home with her most of the time so she almost always has food and water. I do take her water away at night now though. Her food bowl I leave, but if it is empty I don't give her more food late at night anymore.
If you're only gone a short while I would forgo the water.
