Tasker going to a new kennel

Doug and I need to make an unplaned trip to SC, my Dad is sick. We just found out last night and are leaving tomorrow. I called my usual kennel and they are full. So I called another kennel, one I've never used and they can take him.

I've never left him at a kennel I didn't check out completely and I'm not happy about it :( . This is a new kennel, the owner is a licensed vet tech and they also run a doggy day care. It's also the MOST EXPENSIVE kennel in the area so if price=quality I'm golden

Ty is going with us, he's more portable. I tried to explain it to Tasker but he just gave me a dirty look :(

Oh - poor guy! Do they have any reviews floating around the web that you could check on? I hope he has a ball at his new vacation spot.
Ginny, I am sorry about your Dad, and hope that he is okay. Poor Tasker. Maybe he'll make some new friends at doggy daycare. Do you have anyone that lives near you that can check up on Tasker for you, just to make you feel a bit better?

Sending hugs to all for a quick recovery. :ghug:

I don't blame you - that'd make me nervous, too. If you want to drive with him as far as NC, I'll meet you on I95 and keep him for you while you're at your dad's.
^^^ Great idea!!

Sad news about your Dad. I am glad you are able to go be with him.

Another option could be to find a kennel near your dad's house so you can go check in on him (assuming you are driving down).

Otherwise, just call them every day to be reassured. I like the fact that the owner is a vet tech -- that would make me feel safer about leaving him. It could turn out that this place is better than your usual.
Ginny, I hope your Dad is alright, I will be thinking of you.

Hard call on the day care, I am a worry wart when it comes to DC's, especially ones that you haven't had time to check out.

Bless you Tammy for your offer, that was very very nice of you.

Last week I had to take George to a groomers that I hadn't used before as my regular one was full and he needed to have a bath and the fur between his paws cut!

I was nervous about leaving him there (so I can imagine how you feel) but it turned out to be better than my regular groomer and he loved it so I'm now using them instead.

The point is that sometimes things turn out better than you expect!

Hope it all goes well and your dad is ok
Ginny I'm sorry your Dad is sick :(
I hope things go well for Tasker because I know it's a such a stress factor when we go on trips!!!

Prayers are sent to your father and family!

Hi Ginny,

Yes, lots of stress and I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm sure Tasker will be fine although he may be upset at you for a while - take care of yourself and all your family members. Hope things will be okay and I'll be thinking of you.

Ginny: I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope for his quick recovery and a quick return home for you and Tasker. I'll keep your Dad in my prayers.

Have a safe trip,
Thanks everyone.

My Dad will be fine. He is 84 years old and coming to the end of his life and the most important thing now is to make sure he can do that the way HE wants to. We are having alot of conflict in my family over that at the moment. My sister wants force him into a Nursing Home and I have promised my Dad to do everything I can to make sure he is able to stay in his home. The main purpose of my trip is to help him make the arrangements that need to be made so he can stay where is is as safely as possible.
Just an update......... Tasker is at the kennel. Doug had to take him because just before it was time to leave I got a squad call and had to go. But he reports that the place is beautiful, spotless, and that Tasker is going to have lots of fun.

There is a playroom full of overstuffed furniture that the dogs are allowed on, OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tasker has never been allowed on the furniture, it will be interesting to hear if he gets on it!!!! They have heated concrete in the kennels and there is a three acre play yard that is completely fenced.

She said she would start him in a smaller area to make sure he got along alright and then work him into freedom to roam.
Ginny, good luck with your dad and all the necessary decisions.

It soundslike Tasker is in a good, caring place. Ty might actually be jealous. I have a feeling there might some attempt to get on the furniture at home in Tasker's future.
Sounds like a good first report - I bet he'll have a ball!
Sorry about your Dad...

At least it sounds like Tasker will be having a good time.
Hi Ginny,
Sorry about your dad. I am sure he will appreciate everything you are doing to keep him in his home.

I am sure when you get home you are going to have ONE tired Tasker...he'll be snoozing in your new couches!
Ginny, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. Bless you for wanting him to stay as comfortable as he can be while staying home. I'm sure I'd want to do the same thing.

Sounds like Tasker is doing just fine. I know it's natural to worry about them when we're gone, but it seems that this time the worry is unwarranted.

Good luck, and keep us posted. :ghug:
