Hi ask you can guess im new to this forum.
I have a lovely but old oes called suzie.
She is 9yrs old and has very bad arthritis in her hips.
My previous oes called Lottie also suffered from the same alement and unfortunatly we had to put her to sleep.
We have always fed suzie good quality feed (Eukanuba).
She has been fed on this since we had her as a pup.
We rescued her when she was 10wks old,her owners children were hitting her and suzie went for them so it was the old sell the dog or have it destroyed thing.
They even kept her outside in a kennel with a rottweiler of all things.
When I saw her I had to have her there and then and she gave me a great big slopy lick as if to say thankyou.
Admittedly she was a pain in the bum at first but gradually she came through and settled down.
Now after 9 yrs I think It might be time to say good bye as she is clearly suffering and in pain.
It kills me to even think about having her put to sleep after all the good times and as i write this the tears are rolling down my cheeks, but having let Lottie suffer for too long and seeing her decline I couldnt let suzie go through that.
Thats why I reckon its good bye time again

Goodbye suzie :(

First of all, welcome to the board!:)

I am sorry for your pain regarding Suzie. It sounds like she has a really kind, caring 'Mom".
Is Suzie on medication/supplements for her arthritis?
Is she getting around OK?
Have you talked with your vet regarding her arthritis?

These decisions are never easy, know that you are not alone here. We are all here to help, get advice, give suggestions and just a be a shoulder for one another.

Again, welcome. :)
I'm so sorry to hear about Suzie's problems. This is the worst part of being owned by a dog.

You have to put yourself and your needs out of the equation (it's hard!). Now is the time to think about Suzie's needs. She has given herself to you for all these years, never asking for more than love. She would have put her life on the line to protect you, such is the total devotion dogs give to us.

Now she is in pain. She wants to contine to do her work for you, but it's getting harder. Not only does she have the physical pain, but also the bewilderment....she can't do what she wants to do or what she believes you want her to do.

Ending her misery is the most generous thing you can do for her. If HER quality of life as deteriorated to where each day is filled with pain and nothing can be done for it, then let her go...................

Thank her for her love and devotion and tell her you did your best for her and you will love her forever. She will live on in your heart.
Oh I am so sorry you are faced with this decision, it is so hard and painful to do, and yet only you can decide if it is time for her to go... you know her best, and you know when her quality of life is deteriorating.
I'm glad you found this forum, we are all here for you.... welcome.
hello again.
Im sorry to inform you but we took the decision to have my lovely oes suzie put to sleep today.
In the last couple of days suzie went from bad to worse and could not use her rear legs properly.she had lost all strength in them.
As you have said we thought of her interests and realised that she was suffering.
She actually bit my mum today, she has never gone for anyone before.
A call was made to the local vets who have looked after her since day 1.
They came out this afternoon and put suzie to sleep.
needless to say before this I said my goodbyes which was very very hard.
Missing her already.
Just got the photo album out and now Im upset again.
Having her cremated and then probably scattering her remains where I used to take her for walks.
As you can imagine this is a very hard time for me but at least my beloved suzie's not suffering anymore.
The pain will ease eventually.
:^(
Please accept my sympathies on your loss of Suzie. It's a hard decision to make but a very generous one. She was in pain and suffering and you let her go although you didn't want to. Remember she will be waiting for you and until then you have her memories and pictures to help.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Suzie will be forever grateful for your helping her in the end. Helping her pass is the most self-less and caring thing you could have done.

My heart goes out to you and your family! Please know that Suzie is in great company and will be with you forever in spirit!

Hugs!
Kristen
