Skiddish OES

Hello. I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 2 yeard old male OES. Most of the time Moe is very even tempered and a loving dog, but for the last three days he's been "skiddish". He'll go from one spot to another in the house at a full gallop, like he's running away from something and then quickly lie down again. And when he does this, his head is hung low. He doesn't want to go outside; in fact, I literally had to pull him out of the house yesterday. He doesn't want to play with our other dog, has no appetite for his regular food (although he will eat anything else). He just looks depressed. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Is this something I should contact the vet about? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure, but you may be describing FRAP (frequent random activity period) ... If it is, it's perfectly normal.
Does it look anything like the running around in this video?

The other symptoms sound a little strange... is this all new?
Absolutely loved that video. But, no, that's not what Moe's like. Moe's more depressed-acting. I'm really at a loss as to what to do. Thanks.
Since it is something that has only come about in the last few days, my first guess would be that it is something medical that is the cause.

If it were something behaviour/personality related, he would've been skiddish before now... since he is 2 years old and it is just happening now.

Have there been any environmental changes? New neighbours, new dog in the neighbourhood, construction, etc.?

A vet visit is the best bet to rule out any medical causes.

The running as if he's running away from something might be because he's uncomfortable (glands/hind legs/tummy....) and he's trying to run away from whatever is causing his discomfort - without knowing the cause isn't external.
Also, check through his fur thoroughly to see he hasn't picked up a branch or burr. Occasionally we will see our pup running or walking funny and after inspecting his fur we find a stick or a large burr that he has picked up on a walk that is causing discomfort.
I would at least call and ask your vet about it. I don't like the "acting depressed" part. Poor baby.
This does sound like something is bothering him, perhaps medically. It could be something with his digestive system, especially since he is not eating his regular kibble. Please note that there have been some issues with yet another dog food recall (Natural Balance Venison and Brown Rice Dry Food), so maybe there is something fishy about his food. I echo everyone here who said to take him to the vet.

I hope he is feeling better soon.

Last week my Dixie was running from room to room, then dropping and rubbing her head on the ground or couch.

I rubbed her head and she liked that, but when I stopped she would run of again...With a bit of a whimper.

I was able to examine her ears, and one of them had a little scratch at the top of the canal, and it had scabbed over and was a bit red.

I cleaned it up, gave her some Benedryl to make her sleepy, and the next day it was all nice and clean, and starting to heal.

I would suspect he is trying to run away from whatever is bothering him, and if his head is down he could have an ear problem. If you cannot physically see something I would take him in.
If your dog is not eating and/or has no appetite, is depressed or lethargic all of a sudden, I would make a Vet appointment right away. This behavior an signal alot of problems or none at all as well but I would rather be safe than sorry...Did he eat a big meal prior to this behavior? Is his stomach distended at all or does he wince if you touch his abdomen? Could he have eaten something strange that is blocking his intestines? Is he having regular bowel movements and/or any vomitting?

I am sort of a nervous nelly but I would definately get him checked medically....hope he feels better soon.
TAKE THE DOG TO THE VET. It could be bloat and that is very seroius.
