trimming the eyes

Do most people trim the hair around the eyes? Also the skin around the left eye is pink, is that normal.

I trim mine, but many people do not, and putting the hair back with a band or clip is an option, as well :)
If you are planning on showing, you will need to leave the hair long, of course.
Welcome to the forum! :D

here is my boy, Eggbert with his (rather goofy) trim job

You don't need to trim the hair around the eyes you can tie it up when it gets longer, you can put a little denetal band above each eye when it gets slighty longer till long enough for a top knot tie. If you are going to have the dog in a short coat, well then you can trim the whole head coat above the eyes so you don't have to tie it up.

Pink around the eye is normal as the dog matures you will start seeing little dots of black on the eye rim appearing and gradually as they grow older the pigment joins up to form the black eye liner around the eye. Some have pigment early others are slower getting it .
The pigment of OES can be pink around the eyes or black. Either way is fine. As you can see in the picture above, this boy has some black and some pink. around his eyes.

Oops - you beat me to it, Lisa!!
London is a year old and you can see in this picture her pink skin along her nose and around the eyes.

I trim but I always wish I didn't. I get too impatient for the hair to grow. Unfortunately, once you start, you really can't stop either because it'll grow in a lot shorter than the rest. And, for me, I again grow impatient and chop it!
I do not trim around the eyes. I do put it up in a top knot now that it is long enough.
With the weather warming up and an impending shave down bound to happen at any time, I shaved between Rags' eyes last month.

When I did have her in full coat she did not like me putting up her hair.
So this works well for her. She gets nasty when her hair is in her eyes.

Her is an older picture of Pepsi after getting his eyes trimmed at the groomers

Oh, Pepsi has cute eyes! :D
I'm really relieved to see all the pictures of the eyes-- Harley has pink eyes (around the rims, I mean) and the bridge of his nose is also pink. I just figured the pink rim is normal since he's had that since we got him, but I had a "well-meaning" guy in Petsmart tell me he was sure Harley had an eye infection and that I'd better get him to the vet fast.

I thought he didn't know what he was talking about since other parts of Harley's skin are very pink also, but it still rattled me a little. Harley's eyes and nose don't look any different than London's though, so I feel much better. :D

Thanks Dawn :D
I keep the hair trimmed around the eyes ever since my friend told me her dog tends to run into walls at times. Just me but I think dogs need to see and I love the eyes. Since the shave down, I don't need to worry about it.
I keep Pandas hair around her eyes trimmed too...its better for her to catch balls, run and play...besides the fact, who could resist looking into these eyes :hearts:

Chewie still doesn't have much eye pigment -

The other eye has a few spots of black, but this eye is all pink skin!
What lovely eye trims everyone has. I will have to print the pictures and give to my groomer because I am to chicken to cut around the eyes and Miley look awful after the groomer did it. I cryed when I got home and am now trying to grow it out but I have to start putting in a top knot as she can't find the treats when I drop them.
Is it true that you have to put suntan cream on the pink bits in the summer?

If it is I'm looking forward to that one!!!

Not to near the eyes, of course, but yes, we do use sunscreen for Miss Abby (who has a lot of very pale skin on her muzzel)

We use one that is designed for infants :)
