Friday the 13th

Ok - let's hear them. I think we need some Friday the 13th stories!!!!

Background: When I was a freshman in high school I was leaving my house at 5 in the morning in February. I had to be at swim practice by 5:40 and then I had a day of skiing planned. There was a skiff of new snow on the ground. I lived in NW Montana on the top of a small mountain. To get down this mountain you had to journey over a long, steep, winding road.

Story: I made it down the driveway and began going down "the hill" as we called it and noticed several deer in front of me. Every driving instruction I'd ever received came barreling back at me, "Don't try and avoid the deer if you're around snow - just keep going." What did I do? I whipped my wheel around to try and avoid them. I skidded right, over corrected left, over corrected right, and did a final over correction left. I hit the edge of the road and promptly flipped my Toyota truck onto it's side.

Conclusion: I walked up the road a while until I came to a friend's house and asked to use their phone. When I got inside they offered me coffee (they were early risers) and I said "no thanks, I'm already in enough trouble as it is, I'll take the orange juice". A girl knows when to try and appease her coffe-hating father's heart after she has flipped his truck. . .

I would have never hit the deer if I'd kept going straight!

You could drive when you were a freshman???
In MT you can get your permit at 14 1/2 and license at 15.
Does this count...

This morning I went to the dryer (washed a load of clothes late last night)...anyways I didn;t check the kids pockets.

So I open up the dryer, everything is red, blue, green and yellow...I missed 4 crayons in Madelyn's jacket. Which only got tossed in at the last minute, because she got it covered in mud yesterday.

All of Parkers good pants for school, some socks, and a couple t-shirts of both kids were in that load...and the two school jackets.

Now my dryer has a lovely rainbow look inside, and I have to go shopping to give him a couple new pants.

These clothes will be okay for play/camping, but pretty gross for school. Some got it alot worse than others...so I may have saved 2 pairs, and the kids didn't care, thank God they are not fashion freaks.

Arggh...not a good way to start the day.
I'm always paranoid even if I tell myself I don't believe in it. Usually it's a lucky day for me.

I think this is a happy day for WizardMerlin  I THOUGHT she was getting an OES from Stacey today :clappurple:

I DID...I GOT MY SCARLET.....but there was a REASON I chose Friday the 13th

My eldest daughter was born on friday the 13th! That was a good day for all of us!

When the groomer lost Merlin he was found on Friday the 13th....

Now Scarlet....of course I wanted to get her on Friday the 13th....
I'll start another thread about her...as I don't want to hijack this one with tales of Scarlet!
It's good day for me. They're throwing a party for us at work and this terrible person that we've had to take abuse from for years was banned from coming. That's a good day. :)
For some reason Friday the 13th is a good day. It is Thursday the 12th when things go wrong for me.

Knock on wood. Yesterday was OK for me.

Friday the 13th has always been a fun day for me.

All the bikers (gang-members or not) go to Port Dover, Ontario every Friday the 13th. They drive in groups for hours to get there, and I hear (I've never actually gone) there are thousands of bikers at Port Dover every Friday the 13th. It's just what they do. Growing up I lived close to the "route" to Dover so we would sit and watch as hundreds of motorcycles of all kinds drove by.

Lots of fun, and a sight to see! I've been meaning to go someday. Maybe the next Friday the 13th will be warmer.... Port Dover is a small, beachy town.
There has to be some more stories from today or the past!
Friday the 13th yesterday here, been there, done that, no bad luck.

Sorry L - no bad luck today. Dogs groomed - look gorgeous, Weather is beautiful and going out to eat. :P
Never been bad luck until Friday Jan 13 2006.
That is when Harley's final test results came back from the Vet, end stage cancer. :(

Interestingly enough that day was also my 1st husband's Birthday and he was born on a Friday.... Always a lucky day for him. :?

This Friday I have not even left the house except to get the mail.
I did have a nice surprise.... I ordered a CD through Amazon and not only did it arrive, but the seller also included a 2nd CD for free. To top it off I only paid $1.50 for the first CD. 8)
I usually don't buy into the superstition of Friday the 13th because it's usually a good day for me but today was just kind of... annoying.

I had a screw in my back right tire since Feb and just haven't gotten the time or cash to get it fixed... so I'd just air it up when it needed it.. it got to the point in the last week or so where I'd have to air it up in the morning and at night. So on my way home from picking up my paycheck from school I told my husband I'd stop at the tire place on the way home and find out if they could patch it in less than an hour (because I had to leave for work). They said it'd take about 40 min so I agreed to come back the next morning.

I headed home to get ready for work and then I left. Shortly after leaving (maybe a 1/2-3/4 a mile from home) I hear this somewhat heavy "tick tick tick tick" noise coming from outside the car. I rolled down my passenger window and heard it coming from my tires. So I turned around and went back home expecting that rear tire to be completely flat. No, I could have been so lucky. I had a BOLT sticking out of my front passenger tire! The head of the bold was about 1/4 an inch out of the tread. That tire was almost bald anyway and I needed to get a new one, so I called work, told them I'd be late, then called the tire place back to find out how much the new tire and patch on the other one would be. $99, eh it needs to be done.

But wait! It gets better.. as I'm driving to the tire place, my check engine light comes on. 8O So I get my tires sorted out and stop by a garage not too far from my job and drop the car off and walk to work. They call me at work to tell me the computer says "camshaft position sensor" isn't working, but they test it and it is so they think it was a dirty sensor somewhere in between and reset everything. He says the "camshaft position sensor" it like $150 so he won't change it on the assumption that it's bad (phew!!) so I'm like but how much are you going to charge me for looking at it? $42.50. *sigh*

So, since I'm still in college, I will attempt to get my dad to pay for most/all of that because he pretty much helps me out with my car for the most part anyway.

One more bald tire to replace and an air filter to change and I'll feel safe enough to drive into StL for Sheepiepalooza!

At least Zippy seemed to have a good day (napping on my bed) :D
Sorry to disappoint...but Ive had an awesome day so far (knock on wood  ) I was woken up this morning by a customer calling to order and give me a credit card payment on an original piece that I haven't even started work on yet :D ....and then my best friend (who is a dog trainer) came over and worked with me and the dogs for most of the afternoon, and Bert did FANTASTIC! :yay: We have achieved a solid "down" for the first time, and she taught me how to resolve some food-aggression issues that had started to come up recently. I'm so pleased with life, that I've decided to take the rest of the day off :P may as well quit when I'm ahead, right?
Ask your dad to replace the tire you've been driving on with a nail in it too. For safety. A patch isn't a very good thing, and a plug is a no no.

A patch is done from the inside of the tire; a largish patch covers the area to prevent the air from getting to the hole, with a plug that goes into the hole.

A plug done from the outside can't guarantee that air won't still get in between the layers of the tread even if the outermost hole is sealed.

Air in between the layers of the tread can lead to separation blowouts; the same blowouts that all those Fords were having. Same reason, too: A quality control employee was a little too aggressive in pricking cosmetic bubbles on the inside of the tire. :(

Finally, if you've run on the tire flat, and the inside of the tire has abraded even slightly, NEW TIRE. Same reason.

June - Friday the 13th Many years ago....... got ready to make an hour drive to town with hubby, SIL and kids. Was going to drop him off at work, do laundry, run into the dentist for my appt., then yard sale the rest of the day.

We had a flat before we left home. Fixed that and something else happened that almost made me and SIL decide to just stay home. No such luck - yard sale bound!

Got to town, seen the chief of police 3 times. Dropped hubby off at work, etc.....then took SIL and the kids to the town park while I went to the dentist.

Came back out, looked both ways to cross the road - all clear, plenty of time to cross. Got to my car, unlocked and barely opened the door enough to slide in and....... woke up sitting on the ground.

A teenage boy had dropped something on the floor of his SUV, leaned over to pick it up, his steering wheel leaned with him, and wham. He smashed me between my slightly ajar door and the door frame, blowing fatty tissue out of my right thigh into the car and on me, ...... broke my pelvic bone on the left side, shoved me and the car onto the curb, ripped my favorite jeans, glass snagged my favorite shirt, and I was knocked out of one of my favorite sandals.

I came to sitting on the pavement with my back leaning against the inside of the now, smashed up door frame. My first words were, "What the hell happened?" That was the 3rd time I seen the chief of police. I asked for someone to go get my husband and my SIL at the park. Hubby got there in enough time to go with me in the ambulance. Which I insisted on, and they were fine with it once they found out that he'd flown medivac in Nam.

Going down the highway to the hospital the ambulance starts slowing down. Engine problems. They called in and another one was sent to meet us as we continued enroute at about 15 mph.

I ended up in the hospital in traction for about 6 - 8 weeks, and in the hospital altogether for about 3 months. Had many skin graphs on my right leg after they attemped to close the hole it put in my leg (About 8" long).

Me superstitous - not before or after, but I don't like the 13th anymore!
Just wasn't a good day - missed out on yard sales for months!!!

But, I was blessed way more than I was injured. I was still alive with my family and friends, didn't loose a limb, could walk, and still had my teeth! It's strange when something happens to you that knocks you out and you come to and realize, "Hey, I could've woke up on the other side! Would I have been ready to meet my Lord then?" "Yes."

I am going to see if he will pay me back for what I paid, and hopefully some extra for a new front tire for the other one that needs to be replaced. It might be a bit longer before I could get a new one for the back one that had the leak though. I really don't want to because that tire is fairly new! LOL but I think I only drove on it once when it was really close to being completely flat. Like I said before, as long as my tires are good enough to drive on in time for Sheepiepalooza I'll be happy. ^_^

He was at the scene standing next to the chief of police when I came to. I knew it was "him" from the look on his face. He was never charged with anything to my knowledge, but I'm sure he lives with the memory, and lessons we learned through that experience, the same as I do.

I think not knowing whether I would survive or not (in the beginning) would've been punishment enough for him. His dad also died within the year. His plate wasn't exactly empty, if it was, it filled quickly that year.

He visited my mom's house on several occasions afterward. She owned a Bridal & Tux Shop that she operated within her home. He was unaware he was entering a potential lions den each time he came to the shop, and that I was sitting just in the next room.
