How much should I expect to pay for nutering?

When I was talking to my vet they said about 400.00 dollars. I called another vet and they said about the same thing. Is that about the right price I should expect? I thought it was a little expensive but Edgar is over 60 pounds.

Is it with their laser equipment (so they heal faster, etc)? That was always twice as expensive when I called around in TX and OK.

Otherwise, it's very dependent on your dog's current weight and the bloodwork done prior. Blood panels (full) are expensive. Some require it; others recommend.

We were given around $120-200 when we called around 2 years ago (in both central tx and ok).
some vets charge by weight.

Prince Simon was 50lbs when he was neutered and that cost me 79 dollars.

maybe you should call a few vets in your area.
That's really expensive! Our expensive vet (that we're no longer with) that neutered Clyde charged us between $150 and $200 if I remember correctly and we had extra bloodwork done at the time because of Clyde's drinking problem to check for JRD.
Thanks!! I thought that was a little steep. I mean I would expect more for a spay job. But for a boy??? Come on its CHOP CHOP!!!!
Clyde has a drinking problem?! Is there Doggie rehab for that? :lmt:
I think that is very expensive. Ask around for a lower-cost facility in your area maybe!
I got my male neutered for $55 + $10 for pain meds at the local spay & neuter place.

No, he's off the wagon now. :)

When he was young, he drank so much water, we were worried that he had bigger problems. Turned out, he just loved water, thank goodness!
The most it has ever cost us is $200 for the boys. Girls are more expensive.
Sounds really expensive to me. I can look up what we paid for you when I get home this weekend, or give my vet a call for a quote - Arizona Avenue Animal Clinic, Arizona Ave in Chandler.
I just had one of our rescue bassets neutered at my vet. It was under $200. He was an adult 50 lb dog. This included postop take home pain meds, but not preop bloodwork.
That sounds pretty steep to me, too. I think $150 - $200 is about average and most do charge based on weight.

There are many low cost spay/neuter clinics around, though. So you might try calling your local humane society -they usually know if there is one.
We just had a foster dog neutered (about a month ago). Cost was $147 fo the neutering adn pain killers and $34 for the checkup before hand. Call around, I found out that the prices varied from the one above to $400 - in 25 mile radius!

Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Sharkey
Thanks Sue!!!! I just made an appointment at the place you recommended. Seemed much more reasonable and SO much closer then the vet we go to. He has an appointment next Tuesday on the 24th.
