Play bowing to our cats

Harley is really starting to come out of his shell-- in the mornings, especially, he is all ready to play. He's the only dog in our house, though, so he has resorted to trying to play with our two cats.

He dances around a little, and then he play bows to the cat. Then he repeats four or five times, finally giving up. The cats, of course, are not ammused and just stand there blinking at him. He's done this every morning now for a week, and still hasn't figured out that the cats aren't going to play. Poor Harley-- we need to find him a play buddy.

AWWW poor little tyke! I couldn't help smiling at the image of Harley play bowing to the cats. Yup he needs his own canine buddy!! Blue, Merlin and Panda said they would play with him if he lived closer...psss they know about cats too as they live with four of them. :D

Ooh - it's hard when the kitties don't understand playtime!

I agree

But seriously, my two Sheepies love having each other.
Pepsi bows to Rags when he wants her to play. But when she wants to play she just body slams him.

Lacey my Terrier mix bows to get the Sheepies to play, they are very happy to oblige. 8)
Poor Harley! Maybe you will find a friend for him in the neighborhood or you could take him to a dog park if there is one nearby. We have a lot of neighbors who call Harry when they need someone to wear their dog out.
We're taking him to an obedience class that starts in a couple weeks, and the trainer said she lets the dogs play for a while afterward, so hopefully he'll make some friends. I don't know of any sheepies in our area, though. :(

We'd be okay with getting a second dog (at least, after all the newness with Harley settles down into more of a routine), but we're renting and had a hard enough time convincing our landlord to let us have Harley (he wasn't so thrilled about his size) that I think we need to wait for a second dog until we have our own house.

That may only be a year away, though (fingers crossed), and hopefully then we can get Harley a buddy and a huge fenced in yard for them to play in....
Awweeee..... That sounds too adorable, and yet sad... why do I feel sad....Harley's trying to make friends....with cats.

Loved the blinking part....so true...(at first) Usually in this house it's followed by some hissing and tail whipping. Sometimes a few swats to the snout...
Well, Harley has found a buddy in the obedience class. The trainer lets the five dogs in the class play afterward, and Harley was all over the place with his new best friend. And of all things.... he's a miniature schnauzer. The biggest (Harley) and the smallest (Skippy, the mini schnauzer) dog chose each other. It's too funny. I'll have to bring my camera next class. :) Skippy's mom was talking about playdates, though, so we might get the two together sometime even after classes are over. Harley's been pretty gentle with him, too, which is good since he's so little-- I was so proud of him. :D
What a good boy!

My dog Pepsi loves my SIL's Mini Schnauzer.
The dog is up there in years and really does not like other dogs at all.
But she actually initiated play with Pepsi. My SIL was shocked because her dog never plays. Pepsi gets along with every dog he meets. He is just so laid back and I think other dogs sense that.
