List for Barney1 before trip:

1) Pickup SheepieMommy and take along on trip

Sorry. It wasn't what you were looking for but that is a trip I am dying to take so I thought it was worth a shot.

2) Have a good time.
ENJOY!!!!!!!!! You will find and see loads of things!!!!

:)
For shopping in London I highly recommend Carnaby St. : http://www.carnaby.co.uk/
Three questions. When are you going? How long will you be in each city? Is this your first trip to these destinations? If this is a first trip for you, I would highly reccomend a 1/2 day sightseeing tour in each city. This way you get the "lay of the land" and an idea of what you would like to go back and explore in depth. I warn you that Europe is incredibly expensive for Americans right now. A regular cup of coffee in both London and Paris will cost you well over $3.00 USD! I will check with my flight attendent friends for the hot dining spots in Paris and London and post again. Have a great trip!

All of the following information is provided by hubby "The Brit" and his views and opinions should not be held against me.

London:

1. Take Thames guided tours up and down the river as opposed to the usual bus tour. Fun ride, inexpensive, and you will see everything from the river.

2. Tea dance at the Ritz includes high tea at 4 p.m. with dancing in a fabulous location for not a lot of money.

3. Shopping: Liberty's

Paris:

1. Take required Bateau Mouche tour Paris from the Seine includes all bridges and famous landmarks - good way to go.

2. Angelina's for the world's best hot chocolate.

3. Musee D'Orsay all the impressionist art work in one place.

4. Shopping: Hermes (you can go in and just drool if you can't afford); Rue St Honore has all the big desginer and fashion houses on one street.

Edinburgh:

1. Aside from the castle which is a must, see if the Edinburgh Tatoo is on while you are there. Google it - very cool.

2. Vist the Scotch House and find you your tartan - you may not be able to afford the kilt but at least get a picture with the fabric.

3. Opt for Scotch eggs instead of haggis. (Much easier on the stomach)

4. Shopping: Antique kilt pins

That is too funny, and my exact thoughts as well-- Me too, Me too!!! LOL

Wow, have a great trip. I have always wanted to visit those places...I will before I am dead! And it sounds like BatonRougeSheepies hubby has a pretty cool plan. I love the idea of taking the river tours instead of the bus.

Have a great trip! Would be pretty cool to see those pics when you get back **hint hint**
Have a great time :D
I would not be interested in shopping unless it was old street type markets... I would want to see the scenery, and all things old. Castles, fields, churches, anything with history :)
London

Resturant- "the London dungeon"

Wierd Fun Stuff- "Jack the Ripper Tour" where they take you to the murder sights (kinda creepy, yet fascinating).

Shopping- Harrod's Knightsbridge

History- Warwick Castle.....one word...STUNNING!!!

I stayed somewhere and I remember the word AVON being in it....Dunno if that helps but it was gorgeous....It was also a while ago.
List -

Most important, lisaoes to carry the luggage, you don't want to strain your back do you? Especially after all that shopping in Paris.

I am a strong lil buggar. Don't eat much, wine charges the batteries sufficiently. 8)

Have a fantastic trip, I know you will, so wonderful and looking forward to hearing all about the adventures when you return. :D
The place you are talking about is Stratford-upon-avon - yes it is lovely, but no where near London or Edinburgh

If you do go to the Ritz, don't forget to dress up and I do mean dress up - I think you'll pay for a pot of tea/sandwiches (dainty little things) and pattiseries around £20 p person, it might be more - but well worth the experience and if you're still hungry after, go to McDonalds lol !! If you have the time in London, its worth going to the Royal Albert Hall and take in an opera or ballet - get seats in the grand tier - wonderful experience www.royalalberthall.com - its in Kensington, then a 15 min walk takes you to Knightsbridge (Harrods) lots of shopping, then get the tube www.tfl.gov.uk and go to Picadilly Circus always lots to see and do and a really beautiful part of London is Covent Garden, expensive shops and indoor market stalls, always something going on there - all of London has wonderful historic buildings wherever you go - but Wynette is right - take the boat down the Thames. Have a great time and don't forget the pictures
Thanks everyone!
I would love to take everyone with me...but, sorry!

I'll be there the first 2 weeks in April, so hopefully the weather won't be too dodgy. I want to find some cute unique shops to get clothes or accessories or even small home decor but not expensive! I know that's probably impossible. I know we have a Seine River boat ride planned and are going to Stonehenge...aside from that, not sure. We're not going to be in any city for that long, maybe 3-6 days, depending on the place.

I'll try and take as many pictures as I can!
in that case, see if you can visit Portobello Road market (remember Notting Hill ?) or go to Camden market - they have loads of unique stuff and lots of little shops around them that you don't get in central London.
Sounds just like what I'm looking for. Is there a good pub nearby where I can plop my husband down so he won't bother me???
you won't be short of pubs I can tell you - just be prepared to pay around £2:50 - £3. per pint of lager or the same for gin and tonics and you can smoke in the pubs - although that stops in July. Just make sure you keep check of your purse, like all cities, there are pick-pockets.
Kayla - is there still a market in Walthamstow, too? :? I remember at one time, it was the longest market in Europe, if not the world.

How can you say that? Wot, about 200 miles from London to Liverpool?
Your whole island is the size of a loooong walk in the park here. :D :P :D

My sister lives just about 200 miles from me. Let me find a map that show where she is, and where I am in relation to the rest of the country.

Size isn't everything... :D
in london i fel in love with the tower of london. they had a guided tour that had actors to play the part and they really know there history. The crow jewls were there i think shoping trafalga square(i know i am spelling that wrong) also covent garden has the market shoping you want they had these carts with lots of local hand made items that were really cool. plus right there is the doc martin shop and some really good shops. i also recomend windsor castle and benjamin franklin's house. for food i loved it the medieval banquet. it was food but also a show and they took you back in time to how life was then.

in paris the palace of marseille is close to paris i think and it was sobeautiful. also a boat ride on the river at night is lovely. the Lourve is so big you could spend a whol day there but if art is not your thing don't waste the money. Notre Dame was so pretty and its just worth seeing. but what i really loved was we took a tour and ended up near the biggest university and we had lunch out on a tarace and we just watched the locals in their normal lives. its a beautiful city but you will get some resentment from the locals. it just goes with the city of paris.
THAT WAS IT ...Stratford upon Avon...!!!!

Don't ask but I remembered the Avon part....lol
I was also a lot younger when I went. I would love to check out the "markets" and thrift stores there for bone china and other antique collectibles (mirrors, trinket boxes, victorian jeweled boxes).....oooohhh.....I'm jealous!!
They probably have the best herbal tea over there too.....

Next time I'm in London, I'm going to the leaky couldron to get some pea soup (harry potter joke....tee hee)

Hey Ron....I'm 1,100 miles from my sister, you lucky ducky!
I know you listed cities BUT being a Brit myself I would highly recommend you visit Yorkshire. Its my most favorite place in England. Ok that being said I would say it depends what type of things you like. I definately like shopping in london!!! Here's a website for you to check out http://www.touruk.co.uk/index.htm

You know what my favorite english thing is for home decor...... the sheer curtains and how they cut them to size for you. I love all the designs and etc. Wish they had that here in the states. But they weigh your suitcases down when you bring them back. LOL my mom and dad were over last year and decided to get some for their whole house. The suitcases weighed a ton!!!!
I'm not sure about Walthamstow market Tammy ?

Ron - you make me laugh !!!! Did you go on some route planner to work the miles out lol The thing is here, if we have to travel more than 4 hours in a car, its classed as long distance - mad I know, especially when our country is 8hrs drive end to end ! I find it a pain driving to St Ives, Cornwall - 4 blimmin hours - now Cornwall is a beautiful part of the country - its the bit that sticks out under Wales lol
