Off to Boston!

I'm going to Boston tomorrow morning for a conference on the "Future of Animal Law" held at Harvard. I'm really excited, my school is paying the tab, Ben Stein is speaking, and my sister and her husband will be there at the same time (he's a musician and playing in Boston Saturday night).

I get barely any free time- but any suggestions on good Vegetarian restaurants or places to see?

That sounds really good. Ben Stein is ridiculously smart and should give a good talk. I don't have any suggestions other than to have a good time!
Have fun! Remember, Ben Stein went to Yale--he'll get testy if you mention Harvard.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
no suggestions, but cool! Have fun!
I guess the Brazillian all-you-can-eat skewers-of-meat place is out....

Harvard Square has changed SO much since I used to frequent it, I'll have to pass on advice, especially for vegetarian fare!

Places to see? OMG not on limited time.

Old Ironsides is the oldest commissioned US Navy ship, actually berthed in Charlestown (just across a bridge). If the weather is nice it's a beautiful vista of Boston and a pretty historic thing to see a wind powered battleship. The sails will NOT be set in dock.

Fenway Park has daily tours.

Faneuil Hall (pronounced "Fannel" rhyming with flannel by real old time locals) hosts a "food court" like center building surrounded by some pretty architecture and lots of shops

If you are interested in eating in a non-vegetarian but quite historic place near Faneuil hall there is:
Durgin Park (PM me for SPECIAL instructions on eating at Durgan Park)

Union Oyster House

Bell-In-Hand Tavern

Oldest Tavern in America... but don't expect Paul Rever to walk in.
Lite (not veggie) fare (If I recall) weekdays, nightclub nights and weekends.

ALL are within easy walking distance of Faneuil Hall.

Need more suggestions/info? Give more info. Where is he playing, how much time do you really have (and when), and what types of things do you LIKE to see? :D
HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sidestep:

love the new emoticon ron
I love Boston! Ron gave you the best ideas!

There are many extremely old cemetaries there, right in town. I happened to have found them very interesting. I was blown away to see Paul Revere's headstone! Somehow, I never think of him (or Samuel Adams, or John Hancock) as real people...just folklore.

Have a wonderful time! Its a most interesting city!!!

(and you should decided to eat animals...go to Legal Seafood!)

Safe trip
Have a good trip! My Mom just landed there this morning for her annual corporate meeting. She won't have time to do anything either. At least you'll probably learn something :D

Boston is a great city even if you only get time for a short walk. My favorite passtime when working in Boston was going to Faneuil Hall on a warm sunny day, grabbing a bread bowl of chowder, and sitting on the steps outside to eat. The chowder was always great, but not the reason I went there. On warm days, many of the local professional's (attorneys, etc) would stroll through the market area with suit coats slung over their shoulders, looking fabulous.

Note to self: visit Boston on a warm day.
I guess she got what she was looking for....? Have fun!
It turned out I had even less time than I thought, so I barely even made it to Boston. I did have a great time in Cambridge though! I spend most of the weekend at the law school, but we did get to walk around and eat at an amazing creperie!

Thanks for the suggestions though, hopefully I'll get to actually see Boston next time!
