Max update

Max is getting stronger- and able to walk longer and keep a straight line for several steps. Not as much weaving!!! He is also holding his bladder all night- and waits till we get him outside for the poo part too!!!!

He will have one laser treatment per week for the next few weeks- and then we will see where we go from there!!

The doctor mentioned .5mg of prednisone... Thoughts?? We will talk to him more about that on Wednesday.

We are just so pleased with the way things are going!!! He gives us kisses and we give him hugs- and if we never get beyond where we are right now- we have still come so far!! Max is our special boy- and he shows us everyday what true spirit is!!

And the cheese... well John says we need to get 2nd jobs to pay for the special treat !!!! Max does have that expensive taste for the imported stuff

That's great news! :)

Regarding the prednisone, it has a lot of uses and benefits, but has some risks and drawbacks too of course. If you trust your vet, go with his/her recommendations.
I imagine you might hear alot of cautions against prednisone, but it has been tremendously helpful to Chum in the past. The three times where she had completely stopped walking, massive doses of prednisone brought her back from the crisis. I was told that it acts as an anti-inflammatory and thus permits the nervous system messaging to transmit better by clearing the pathways of the noise of inflammation. With large doses, some have found it makes the dog super thirsty and a bit incontinent, but that was never a problem for Chum. And apparently, taken over the long term, there can be serious side effects .

The dose your vet has suggested is very minimal -- it is like a maintenance dose. At the peak, Chum was getting 60mg per day.

I would perhaps ask why Max needs it and for how long. But while I might want a bit more info, I would not hesistate to try it.
YIPPEE!! So glad to hear some good news!
YAY MAX!!! Keep up the good work! :clappurple:
That is great to hear! Progress is good - keep up the good work! :D
YAY MAX :D
8) Great news on Max! Thank you for the update. Please give Max some gentle sheepie rubs. Keep up the progress Max!
Yay, Maxie boy!! So glad to hear you're feeling better!
I'm so glad to hear that Max is getting much better. He's making progress daily! He definitely has the "can do" attitude he needs to recouperate from this injury. :D

I agree with Val and Stacey -the prednisone can be beneficial. Ask your vet for more details, but I would use it short term for the benefits.
That Max is a real fighter. :high5: Hope he gets lots of cheese for trying so hard.
Hooray for Max!! :cheer: :cheer:

And thank Val for the explanation on prednisone. I sent it on to my husband as the docs don't explain things as clearly.
