What does an OES mean to you?

Hello everyone! I'm writing about Old English Sheepdogs in my magazine right now and I'd love some answers to this question from all you OES fans:
What does an OES mean to you?
Please let me know! thanks, Nikki

Just means old english sheepdog to me ;)

but good luck w/your article.

please include a link to this site too.
An OES means a large fluffy lively character who is
full of love and kisses and is my shadow throughout the
day.

Oh, there's treats in my pocket
To me, OES means "big mean butthead (who likes to cuddle)".
My Old English Sheepdog means unconditional love, abounding energy and comical behavior. Every day of every month of every year that I share with my OES is a bright and beautiful day. She tests me at every turn. She is my best friend. She IS an OES, thru and thru.
Fluffy, Lovable, Cuddly, Smart (though they like to pretend to be dopey)
Friend, protector, always by my side and I wouldn't give that up for anything. Most of all.... my OES are family!
Smiling faces, wiggling bums, clean counters (beware of surfing!), wet kisses, muddy footprints on the floor, snuggly bunny, toys scattered around the house and yard, spoiled rotten overgrown baby sitting on my lap, biggest most lovable clown I've ever known in my life. Wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China or all the money in the world. :D
Nice to see you here Nikki! ;)

Nikki is also looking for some thoughts about why this breed appeals to everyone more than other breeds too.

Deb
I'm not really interested in any dog that I can't lose my hand in their fur. :)

We always say, no one loves me more than our OES, Clyde-- even my mom and fiancee agree that they can't compete with Clyde's devotion.

If I had to sum OES in one word, it would be "more"-- more brushing, more troublemaking, more muddy footprints to clean, more goofiness and, of course, more love.
That's true Jill. Good point. Unmatched devotion. I was out of town a few days this week. When I got home yesterday, Beaureguard was so happy to see me. The whole rest of the day he hardly let me out of his sight. He's Mom's biggest fan.
Very nicely said, Jill. I agree with her one word - MORE!
When I think of what OES means to me, I think of

People Oriented:
Everyone I have every known has been attached at the hip to their owner.

Clown:
These big and sometimes fluffy dogs are endlessly entertaining!

Boisterous:
Even though these dogs are big (65 to 100 pounds on average) these dogs are FILLED with energy, and don't really begin to slow down until 4-7 years of age. The love kids, and love to play, but can easily knock children over. Small children who are not familiar with the dog can be quite frightened by the level of excitement an OES may demonstrate. Some adults are a bit put off as well.

High Maintenance:
OES aren't for everyone. To keep an OES in full coat requires an enormous amount of work. A good rule of thumb is that each inch of hair adds about 1 hour per week of brushing. A dog in full coat may have 12 inches of hair. Do the math!

Health Issues:
OES have a number of health issues that can arise from improper breeding programs.

Expense:
Due to high maintenance requirements (a single grooming session can be as much as $100) and large food requirements (only the best, of course ;) ) and health issues, owning an OES can be quite expensive. I've estimated that owning an Old English Sheepdog is at easily a $20,000 investment over it's lifetime.

and Rescue:
Unfortunately due to their boisterous nature and their need for high maintenance, health issues and expense, many OES wind up in need of re-homing. Please consider all of these issues before buying a puppy from a well respected and conscientious breeder.
Having an OES means ALWAYS having a loyal devoted protective friend who will NEVER desert or abandon you. It means big wet kisses, muddy footprints, hair all over everything and the most unconditional unselfish love I have ever been honored to receive.
This is really hard to sum up in words...

Everything really...
The reason I picked an OES over the other breeds... personality. No dog is so quick to make you smile with their antics as a sheepie. One look at that muppet face, and no matter how angry you were at them for shredding that entire phone book a second ago, your heart just melts. Granted they are big, energetic, and can definitely be intimidating to strangers who don't see behind the big dog exterior, but most of them just love the whole world and everything around them, their families most of all!
Big loveable wiggle butts whom never cease to make you laugh. Often referred to as the Clowns of the Dog World. Guaranteed to make you laugh. When people look confused when I refer to my OES they immediately recognize - Big black noses, hair, and tongue sticking out.

Marianne and the boys
Family, clowns, laughs, wiggles, trustworthy, devotion & love.

Endless grooming, good at the fang on food, velcro dog and sticky noses have to know exactly what you are doing and where you are every minute of the day. No Privacy

Not a dog to leave outside on there own, very family orientated and thrive on being included in absolutely everything. :D
Loveable, funny, furry teddy bears and thank gosh they are cause on my knees wiping up pee comes to mind also
The only dog to have been able to COMPLETE our family, she fits in perfectly, makes us all feel loved. Devoted to everyone of us. Has a butt that wiggles until you giggle. The absolute best friend and companion we could ask for.

High maitenance...of course, but you tend to want the best look and health for them, you are proud to show them off.
They are beautiful, funny and offer such unconditional love and affection. They make you laugh and will lick your tears. They will sit on your lap or sleep right next to you. They want to be with you 24/7 and they are very nosey. When you are out and about with them they adore being the center of attention and look like a giant, live stuffed animal. They are part of my family and I wouldn't give them up for anything.
I think in the dictionary under the definition of best friend equals Old English Sheepdog.

Because of my old english sheepdogs my heart is now larger and is able to love more.

Big dog to hug.
That was all so heart felt I think I shall have a whole page simply devoted to what you guys think... I hope you won't mind me lifting your words wholesale.

Thanks Deb for suggesting I use the Chit Chat forum!
:hearts: My best friend, companion, fellow traveller, and gardener's assistant. a good conversationalist: no topic daunts him. Friendly to cats, patient, cheerful, loves to sniff flowers (and other things) Loves his car rides and our trips to the Okanagan; loves to stop at the A&W: when we're on the road. I eat burger and fries (I know: bad for me). and he has 6 fries and a small peice of burger. bliss! Right now, he's asleep at my office door, waiting for his walk.:ghug:
Having an OS was my dream when I was a little girl. That dream has been realized now and I haven't had to lose any of my childhood wonder and awe in reality. They are REAL dogs with BIG hearts and lots of hair!!! And the most empathetic eyes . . . :hearts:
Opportunist - every time I sit down She wants to snuggle.
Energetic - always ready to play when I take her for a walk.
Stimulating - gets me off my but when she wants to go out.
