Swollen face

After work I picked up for daycare and her face was swollen. Mainly the right side her eye and lips. So I took her to the vet. He figures it is from a bite and gave her a shot. But we are all dumbfounded on what. I guess spider. But it has been so cold. Well she looks beautiful again this morning but sure did scare me! Has anyone here had such a thing happen?

that's scary... glad her face is back to normal and the shot worked...

Didn't think spiders could survive in our -30 weather.....
I know! that is why we were so surprised. But perhaps she got bit at home and took awhile to take. I burn wood, spiders live in wood piles. Well at least I know now and be prepared.
Thank God it was anything serious...

pesky spiders!!!!
That's scary! Glad she will be okay! Poor baby :(
poor baby! hope she feels all better now!
has anyone heard about spider bites making an anaphylactic reaction?
Poor girl, I did see a spider in my house yesterday and thought the same thing, what the heck are they doing moving around in this weather?

Did the swelling go down yet?

Re your question.... I think any severe allergic reaction has the potential to cause anaphylacsis?
Yah swelling went down. The vet gave her Dexamethazone injection. It was funny because as I watched I got light headed. I can watch myself and people get needles, but watching her get the shot made me weak. haha!
Poor Laika!
Bless her little heart. I'm glad she's okay!
I know in people, spider bites can be quite nast and can cause a very large welt or swelling. And I'm not so sure if they can't live in those cold temps...if she got it at day care, I have to assume the temp in there was not -30...I always do wonder how those sneaky spider can get you ( or your dog) without knowing it! :?
Glad she is okay...
So glad Laika is going to be ok. She is such a beautiful sheepie.
Poor Laika! I hope she's doing better! :ghug:

Nasty spiders can survive indoors even in the coldest climates...we have had the problem here, in Alaska, of non-indigenous spiders (and other nasties) traveling here in fruit and other shipments....ugh!
Hi,

No never heard of it happening on a dog..but yes for humans. I found spiders and other creepy crawlies often come into warm houses during the cold months.

On the other hand ..as creepy as they are..I am a big fan of spiders. They are responsible for eating "bad bugs"..but do have a bad rap due to their looks.

Just in case Laika has an allergy I'd keep Benadryl tablets on hand should she ever be bitten again.

Happy to hear things are ok with your beautiful Laika :D
 to sweet Laika. Glad she is doing better!
