Foster kitty going in for snip snip

Ummm that may put the fear into the hearts of certain genders but ....

One of the kitty boys I'm fostering on behalf of the SPCA is going in for his neuter tomorrow morning. He was one of the cats from ISU that I've been giving TLC to for the last two weeks. Originally a beraggled stray that was trying to get better from a kitty cold. Neat personality, although his wailing for girl kitties has caused me some sleepless nights. 8O

Today, my sister brought in two others that were also former ISU cats, a boy and girl for their operations. Surgery was very difficult for the little female as it was discovered she was pregnant so her recovery will be harder than normal.

Good news is that three more kitties will be fixed, so in a small way we contribute to curbing the over population and lack of homes. Hoping they find forever homes soon.

Wish my foster Dusty well wishes tomorrow!

Marianne - a cat question for you - or anyone else!
I had a little stray kitten found on my property last fall. My friend Mary, who is more of a cat person than me, took him in a nursed him back to health. ( He had respiratory junk, was very thin and scraggly) He has had all his shots. The problem is, he seems to have a chronic respiratory issue - even green snot from his nose on occasion. He just finished a course of Zithromax, but it is back! Any ideas what to try?? He is an indoor kitten, there are several other cats at her house, but he is the only one like this.
Dawn, a feline respiratory virus can be difficult to get rid of. The antibiotics take care of secondary infection but can also hinder the immune system. I would suggest she talk to the vet about another course of meds, but also keep him isolated and sanitize his living areas thoroughly every day to prevent re infection until all symptoms are gone for several days.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Dusty is currently snoozing in the computer room with me - lights out for him. He's sleeping peacefully in a comfy chair and warm blanket. He may be mad at me tomorrow but glad the surgery went well for him.

Dawn, I remember the vet tech mentioning several meds the cats in ISO were on at the SPCA shelter. At times after the meds were over the cats still had the kitty cold and they would then have to be placed on different meds. Sorry not familiar with all the names. Stress and diet also plays a big factor regarding how strong their immune system is.

Marianne

Sending well wishes to your little cat.
