Himalayan cat rescue?

Does anyone have any info on a himalayan cat rescue? My sister has talked intermittently about giving up her 2 beautiful himalayan kittens. They might be a year old much not much more. Her household is just not appropriate for these shy sweeties and their grooming requirements are not being met. They are really beautiful lilac and cream fluffballs with all their shots, spay/neuter, etc. She keeps talking about getting rid of them but gets stymied by her inability to find a rescue. And I am glad that she does not want to hand pick the next family because that requires a knowledge of what a kitty needs that I don't think she has.

Any ideas? They are in Santa Fe, NM.

Well, you guys might have thought I was whacky posting about himalayan kittens who needed rescue on a sheepdog forum. But through the miracle of oes.org, a sheepie lover who also happens to be a himalayan cat breeder has stepped in to rescue and rehome my sister's cats!! My sister and I are both really grateful and very excited that these beautiful kitties are on their way to a better life.

Thank you!!
Very Cool! Did Google or a pre-existing member make the connection?
Good news! :)

I don't remember seeing this post before....

A member! She might speak up but since she didn't post, I didn't want to out her.
I'm really glad that there's a happy ending in sight for the kitties and your sister. Sometimes our hearts get the best of our heads and lead us where we really should not go.

I also wanted to say that this truly is a wonderful group of people who are willing to do their best, using hearts and heads and cold hard cash to do the best for all animals in need.
Hi,
I am the member that rescued Valerie's sister's Himalayan cats. I flew out west yesterday and did a one day turn around and they are now with me. They are just beautiful and have the most wonderful temperaments. I had to take them out of their carrier and walk them with me through airport security. Neither one of them freaked and everyone in the security line oohed and aahed. I was not sure what to expect from them as I had these cats for 10 minutes when I did this. They were also great onboard the aircraft. No meowing or struggling in the carrier. They are now isolated in their own room, in case of any unexpected health issues, and so they can begin to get used to my house. I have two sheepies, two cats and a rabbit, all of which they will eventually be introduced to. I will probably keep them about six weeks so I can make sure there are no health issues and assess their personalities. I believe I already have a great home lined up for them. A women who purchased a kitten from me 18 years ago called me see if I had a litter coming up (her boy crossed the rainbow bridge this past summer). I said no, but I was expecting these two fosters. She is very interested and would make a great Mom for these two. They would be totally spoiled (not that all of mine aren't!!). I was glad I could help. No animal should be in an inappropriate situation.

P.S. My husband says I will probably keep them myself!
Wait a minute wait a minute....

Do I get you right, you flew 3/4 across the country to bring the cats back with you?

My goodness. Thanks!

(Couldn't you advertise on Craigslist or something to pay someone $50 to take a couple of cats with them on a flight or something?)

Yay! That is so great. Already they are being appreciated. My sister just isn't a cat person. She would always describe things that they do that I thought were so cute and sweet but she didn't appreciate. I am so happy to hear they are getting on so well with you. I hope you will share some updates in the next few weeks. I am so curious to hear how they get on with the rest of your household.
Thanks for helping animals in need (even if they aren't sheepies!). Sounds like the lady you have in mind will love these kitties to bits.
Bravo!! What a wonderful thing to do. :clappurple:
Wow! I'm SO impressed, Kathy! You are wonderful for doing this for these little kitties!
Wow--that was awesome of you to fly out and back! Good luck with the kitties!
YEAH what a wonderful thing you have done and are doing!

Hi,
Yes I am crazy to fly across the country to get the two cats, but I work for an airline and spend much of my life in an airplane. Call it a "postman's holiday". I am lucky, I don't have pay anything and because of my job title, I usually get to fly first class, which makes things easier.

The two cats are settling in. I took them to my vet last night for a check-up and tests and he proclaimed them healthy and also remarked on their easy going temperments. Not once have they hissed, growled or scratched at anyone since I've gotten them. The female, Lila, actually came up to me this morning when I went to feed them and change their litter. The male, Jackson, is a lot more skittish and will take more time and TLC to come around, but he will!! Both my husband and I stop in the room everytime we go by and talk and pet them. Will take some photos in the next few days and post them.

Oh, how cool is that?!?!!!

Now you're not nuts at all! LOL

I mean, I drove from Minnesota to Boston and then flew to Hawaii with a rescue dog... But I was in the neighborhood in Minnesota anyway, and then it was HAWAII (and one ticket was paid for by the adopting family, and I turned it into a vacation with Joan and my Dad).
WOW!!!!
:twitch:

It's great to see that they have a new furever home.... :hearts:
