Dancer growling at a suitcase

My daughters' suitcase is in the front hall (my daughter is going away up north with her friend and their family for a whole week  ) and Dancer will not stop growling at it, with the occasional bark. She really hates that suitcase! I think she senses that I am upset when I see it so she thinks it's dangerous or something! My daughter is almost 14 and never been away from me, so I'm going to miss her like crazy.... I just have to try not to cry when she goes, or else Dancer will think Ashley's friend upsets me too! LOL Dancer growls at the suitcase, then comes over to me to snuggle and then goes back to growling in the hall. LOL

I wonder if there is an old "scent" on the suitcase that she's picking up on - or maybe she knows what it means and she's going to miss your daughter too!

I hope your daughter has fun - and you don't miss her too much! :o Most parents of a teenaged girl would be doing the dance of joy to get them out of their hair for a week!

When my dogs see a suitcase - they know what follows - and they usually aren't happy about it! When Oliver was still alive, I was packing for a vacation and he knew I was leaving him :( - so he jumped in my suitcase! It may it very difficult to pack!

jack does this sort of thing alot too, he'll just choose something in the house to vent on i think.

he's certain that the curtains in my room are his mortal enemy. luckily he's much stronger so i needn't worry about them harming him
Everyone had such a funny story about thier sheepie. Stacey, knowing me I would be packing myself up and going with her. I have a little less than 3 weeks before school starts back and I am feeling so sad that Ash will be in full day school this year, and my baby boy in half day ALL WEEK long. So, in a little way, I can imagine how you must feel having her away for an entire week. It does sound like Dancer doesn't want her leaving. Jack and Annabelle really love playing with the kids, so I figure that with them gone to school the pups will probably miss them. I am going to volunteer up at the school a few times a week, I think that will help me. We have a no-kill shelter here about 2 miles away from the house. I hope to volunteer up there too. They have a huge dog park, with an agility course attached. Jack and Annabelle might be able to come too. Ok, I have rambled enough. LOL Stormi and co.
Stormi, I cried the day each of mine went to school the first time...LOL
Well, my big baby girl has left for her holiday. She was so excited. Dancer saw her take the suitcases and put them in the car and go, and she whined such a sad whine at the door for a few minutes. She must know it is different than Ashley just going out for the afternoon or something. I miss her already!
Cooper has been barking at the ceiling in the living room. My husband claims that a previous owner (old lady) died in there, and that he has seen her. 8O Sounds like a ghost story, doesn't it? But we had an episode once where Lizzie started barking at the ceiling in Noah's room, and Noah kept saying, Old Lady, Old Lady...
Anybody else have any spooky experiences with their dogs?
Willow- I know what you mean about your daughter leaving. Mine will be 14 on the 10th. And I hate to have her very far from me. "cept now she doesn't think it's cool to hang out with Mom
Great. Midnight. Dark office. All alone. Dogs start barking right at the end of me reading the post.
Although, a cardio workout is great anytime, right?
I hope Lola doesn't get too sad. We're going away for the weekend next week. We're leaving her with Grandma & Grandpa, so I'm very nervous.
Nervous that my parents can handle her for 4 days and that she doesn't get mad at us for leaving her. But she'll have her buddy to torment (Ruby, my parents 4 yr old Brittany Spaniel) so she should be good and tired :)

We'll see what she does with the suitcases. My cats used to jump in them when I used to travel alot, they hated me leaving them. But so happy to see me come home :)

When Sydney was a puppy (@ 6months old) - we were staying at my sister's Lake House and the teenagers were playing "Oujia" (the spirit board game). Well, they were "talking" to one of the spirits and all of a sudden Sydney jumped up and started barking and growling as she was looking at them - I had never heard her growl like this before. Scared the crap out of them! They are convinced that she sees dead people!

I travel a lot for work and when Bunkie sees the suitcase come out, she knows that one I am leaving a two she gets to go to Grandmas and Grandpas to drive Casey(their dog) mad. SHe also helps me unpack as I am packing. I put the clothes in, she takes them out and bolts downstairs. Everytime. She is such a goof. :P
My Penelope used to bark at the suitcases, I alwasy thought it was because she knew we were leaving and she was sad, or mad, but then I figured it out. When we took the suitcases out to start filling them and they were empty, one of them tipped over and scared the beejeegus out of her, so remebering that she would stand and bark at it and growl with that fierce low growl.

My puppy Chelsea does the exact same thing with the baby gate, it tipped over once and sent her scrambling, so now, even when it is just resting against the wall and she passes by it she gives it a low growl and a bark. ANd just to prove how smart the OES is- she DOES NOT growl or bark at it when it is secured in the dorrway - becuase she is smart enough to know it won't tip over.

These dogs are so cool.

Up.
