Chicagoland SheepieFest Information

Hi everyone,

Here is the information I have regarding the picnic.

It will be held at Van Patten Woods, in Wadsworth, Il. Wadworth is about 40 miles north of Chicago, and about 25 miles south of Milwaukee. Here is the link to the Van Patten Woods website:

http://www.lcfpd.org/preserves/index.cf ... 215&type=P

You will find directions there.

The picnic will be a two day event, October 9th and October 10th. We will meet both days at 11:00 am. I hope you can make it for both, but if not, at least try for one of the days. A lot of us are within commuting distance, but for those of you who are not, and wish to stay overnight, here is a link to the Pet Friendly motel/hotel guide for Illinois:

http://www.1clickpethotels.com/illinois.htm

I would recommend the Residence Inn in Waukegan. It is with 15 minutes of the park. If there is enough interest in it, I can call and see if we can get a group rate.

For those of you who are not familiar with the area, Lake County is rich with fun things to do for both adults and kids. We have a Great America theme park, and at that time, they will be having their "Frightfest" celebration. We also have a huge outlet mall, Gurnee Mills. So if you do stay over, I doubt you will have much down time!

Saturday night (Oct. 9th) I thought it would be fun to put together a dinner for the uprights. I suspect our sheepies will be exhausted! And I promise you, it will be informal.

As for the picnic itself, lets do a bring your own ---- (fill in the blanks) and a dish to pass. For the out of towners, we have lots of grocery stores with great deli counters and of course , much to my dismay, every fast food franchise that’s been invented.

I was having a thought I’d like to try out on you. For the June 5th picnic out east, they have had tee shirts printed up. They’re really fabulous. Our own, Cathy Howard designed them. If anyone is interested in us getting tee shirts (or for that time of year) sweatshirts, let me know and I will contact her to find out the cost. Her website has lots of designs to choose from. She has a fall design that I think would be really nice for our time of year picnic. Here is link to her site:

Now, I need some information from you! If you could email me back with the following:

Address

Phone

Since we are getting close to autumn (oh my gosh! Where is the summer going!) please start letting me know soon if you are interested.

Please email this info and any questions or comments or hugs to:

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!!

Just bumping this up. I think there's a few "new" posters who probably haven't seen this yet. And remember--you don't have to be owned by a Sheepie to come to the picnic. I'm going as official "auntie."
Thanks for the bump, Auntie Paula!!!

Hi everyone!

Well, SheepieFest is less than a month away. Pirate and I are soooo ready to meet ya'l!!

A little further up this tread is the information about Sheepfest. Please read it and even more please...COME!

I'm going to be placing my sweatshirt order with Cathy Howard this week. The shirts are available in XL and XXXL only. You can also order tee shirts. The sweatshirts are $18 plus shipping, and I'm not sure how much they are. If you order, be sure to tell her its for SheepieFest.

I would really love to start getting a count on how many of you are planning on attending and which days.

If you know any other sheepie owners who don't belong to any of our lists, please share the information with them. And if you know anyone who doesn't have a sheepdog, but would love to play with them, or just see them in action, please feel free to invite them. Our pooches can always use Aunts and Uncles!

As always, feel free to write or call (before 9 pm) with any questions or just to chat.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

Yours in sheepie friendship,
Deborah
I would love to go to this but im not so sure Walter is ready for it :(
Oh, i sooooo want to go!!! Chicago is 13 hours from us. Maybe next year you can do it in the summer!? :D
:( :( :( Wish we could make it but it is in the middle of soccor, football and the start swim season. Remember to take lots of pictures! Wish we could be there 8)
Just another bump. Heather, please tell Walter that I need to meet him so he better get his act together so you can be at the picnic!!!! Uppitybup, you are in the area so I hope you can make it. And there is someone in Lake Geneva with 2 (or 3???) sheepies--I'm sorry I can't remember your name. I cannot wait to meet you all!

Paula O.
Walter and I are going to stop by on Saturday.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to keep him away from meeting the other dogs, as he gets a bit dog aggressive when hes on leash. I think this will be a great training experience for us!

See you guys there!
Yeah! I will get to meet Walter. Deb, will we be at a particular site or picnic area? Will there be signs or should we just look for sheepies?

Paula O.
Hi all!!!!

Well, its just a few days away. Pirate is primping already. He's had me busy working on making Halloween bandanas for everyone, blue for boys, and purple for girls. And, he insisted on a special pirate one for him.

We are suppose to have wonderful sheepie weather. High mid 60s and clear.

We will also get to see some sheepies do agility. I swear, they fly like angels!

I think we are at pavillion A, but I'm not sure. Kathi will be posting signs to guide everyone in.

Heather, tell Walter not to be scared. We love him.

Can't wait to hug you all!!!!! Come early...stay late!

Hmmmm....think we can sneak in a kegger??????
I am getting pretty excited to see everyone, and meet all of the sheepies.

We are planning to be there around 11am - will we miss agility if we come that late? Also- I'm from a long line of restaurant/catering types- what's everyone bringing to picnic on? Is there a sign up? Just asking 'cause i'm more than happy to stop and get things to add on the way-

Deb - let me know if you need anything- always willing to help.

Glad Walty is coming

Up.
Hi Up!!!!

Oh, I'm excited too. I think the agility trials will be going on all day, both days.

There wasn't a sign up sheet. We are all bring our own "main course". Kathi is bring a little grill, and she and I are bringing hot dogs and chicken breasts. Not a lot, just enough for us and nibble for others. However! We are all bring something to share. I'm making pasta salad, I think Kathi said she's bringing chips and dip and another Cathy is bringing some sweets. I don't know what the others are planning on bringing. So anything you'd like to share will be welcomed! (As you know, I'm secretly hoping someone brings margartias!)
I'm also bringing extra water (5 gallons) for the sheepies, bandanas and lots of kisses. Kathi told me she made goodie bags for the sheepies.

We are really winging it!!! I think I'll pass out a 'suggestion/comment" sheet incase we attempt this again.

OOOOOOOO!!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lists all over the house, so I don't forget anything.

See ya Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right now it's raining (Friday morning) but it will clear up and be a beauty-full fall day tomorrow! I'm so excited!!!! For my potluck contribution I'm bringing a green salad with sugared almonds, mandarin oranges, celery and green onions. It's very light and tasty! I'll also bring paper salad bowls and plastic forks. I have a very small cooler--can anyone bring a bag of ice???? I think I also have plastic cups so I'll bring those if I do. I checked the map and it's almost 60 miles from my house (Elgin) to the picnic but it will be totally worth it. I'll be there by 11.

Paula O.
Hi hi!

I'm bring ice. And I think I have some plastic cups at home too, so I'll bring them.

Yes....the whole weekend is supposed to be be - u - tiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pirates been walking around the house singing "Steppin' out with my baby" for the last two days. I think he must be pretty excited.

Deborah (who's still waiting to hear who's bringing the kegger to make it a real fest! :D
Don't forget the digital camera(s)!!! Hint hint hint.
Hi guys-

They say the rain will clear up tonight- may be a little muddy tomorrow- but who cares? Nothing says 'happy' like the uddy face of an OES.

I'm bringing some appetizer type snacks, AND as luck would have it Chelsea is one year TODAY, the 8th, so I am bringing cake tomorrow as we plan to celebrate our little girl's first birthday with all of you!

And my husband will be bringing his regular camera (sorry Ron we haven't quite fully entered the digital age at our house) we will have them make a CD and forward any good pics your way!

Also - my parents are coming Deb, so that adds two more two- legged types, but they won't be staying long, they are taking my son back with them to Wisconsin, but they wanted to see the Sheepies, Chelsea is their second OES "grand-dog", so they are big fans of the furry ones.

See you all tomorrow!
Up

See you all tomorrow
OOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SheepieGrandparents!!!!! Will Chelsea share? Pirate's grandparents are in St. Louis and Arkanas, and he's never met them :( .

Ron, I was thinking about digital camera earlier, too. BUT! I too am still in the Kodak Brownie era. But thankfully, Walgreens will make CDs of my film.

Hmmmm....I'm wondering if we should have some birthday hats there. I know Kodiak (Kathi Mc's sheepie) just turned 2!

Deborah and Pirate (who won't be 1 until Christmas day)
I am so technologically behind that I don't have a computer at home, let alone a digital camera! I know everyone will be good at "sharing" any pictures! So we'll have aunties and grandparents tomorrow. Cool. I can't wait to kiss those sheepies!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in California and sure can't make it tomorrow, but want to know every detail. So take photos and share all the stories.

Have fun!
Relax!
Laugh!
Take Pictures!
Hug Sheepies!

Thanks
Leslie
Hi all!

I just spoke to Cheryl, the woman (and our patron Saint) who is running the agility trials and letting us use one of her shelters. She said we will be in Shelter D (as in sheep"D"og).

She also said not to worry about too much mud, cuz our dry ground will probably drink up all rain before we get there. Hmmmm......

Deborah
I am soooo jealous of all of you. Wish I could be there, but its just a little too far for me to drive. Have lots of fun and think about us when you blow out the candles.
ill bring my digital camera and take lots of pictures, so dont worry!
Hi everyone

Cant wait to hear all about the Sheepiefest! Sorry we missed out- Oliver got bit at the dog park late Friday afternoon. He is going to be fine- but has a big bloody gash on his side that is still weeping and bloody. The vet didnt want to stitch it as he was just under anesthesia for his neuter. He is a conehead again unfortunetly.
We were so looking forward to meeting you all! Please post lots of details!

Im so happy the weather is so gorgeous for the event!

Becky, Millie and Oliver- aka sattelite dish head
Any plans for another shytown sheepie picnic for this year?
Was hoping to make it to the picnic out east, but wasnt able too.
Just looks like it would be so much fun with all those sheepies in one place!
Hello there! And thanks for asking. Yes, there is a Chicagoland sheepiefest planned for October. Debcram (Pirate's mommy) is in charge (I hope!). She's been MIA for a bit--I think she's on vacation. But I'm sure she'll post all the info. Hint, hint.

Paula O.
Missing in action???? You betcha! I'm drunk in Key West !!! Met some really nice people here. One woman is from PA, and has two sheepies...Micki and Max....oh well, I digress (is that how you spell that?)

YES! There will be another SheepieFest2! I have absolutely no facts, but when I return, I'll start putting it together.

We had a really good time last year...but were a bit disorganized. As I get info, I'll post.

If you are interested, and we don't have your info, please email me at
debcram@yahoo.com.

It will be held somewhere in the far northern burbs of Chicago, probably very close to WI. I'd like to get the same location as last year.

Ok...I hear the steel drums and rum runners calling.....

As they say in Key West...what's the hurry...YOU'RE HERE!

Later! (love ya Auntie Paula!)

Deborah
Deborah, you are so naughty. I hope you are having a good time. Have a margaritia (or two) for me. Scotch isn't for vacations!

Auntie Paula
Gosh - Key West - bet that stinks ( NOT!)

Count us in for Sheepiefest 2005 - and please let me know what I can do to help - I was the one with big ideas for a winter Sheepie snowromp- but alas - I am not as organized as you- all talk - no action- that said though Pirate's half sis's mom feels bad- sooo

- let me know if you need help with Oct. - I CAN e-mail- I CAN stuff goodie bags- I CAN print up maps - whatever you need!
