How the trip is going..............

well Max and I made the ride from South Carolina to Buffalo in 14 hours. I gave him the Benadryl instead of the tranquilizer, and it did not help. Is only one pill recommended? He was so stressed the entire trip. He even tried to crawl through the bars of the pet barrier. At the rest areas he would not get out, so he had to be dragged. He peed his bed, etc.......He Has been in 3 different houses so far and after a day he has been adjusting. All the noises seem to stress him out. I live alone and on a quiet street so all the cars and trucks freak him out. But I think overall its a good experience for him. We went up to my parents home in Canada which is on the lake and he loved it. He has never been in the water and he just kept running through it. He also had some playmates, a 15 week old St Bernard (I want one) and a 100 lb leonberger. 2 Days before I left I took him to the groomer to have the normal stuff done, and the groomer acidently cut him, I was upset at the time since he just had a pupply cut a few weeks early, but now I'm glad, he dries pretty quickly now. We are headed back up to the beach this weekend, so I'm sure he will be happy. Thats it for now, willl keep you posted!

Glad to hear your enjoying your trip! I'm sorry the benadryl didn't work. Maybe you could try giving 1/2 dose of the tranquilizer for any more long car journeys??? Good Luck and Safe traveling!

Where in Canada did you stop?
It's too bad your trip is not going as well as you'd hoped... perhaps next time a boarding place might be the best idea. If you are thinking of making another trip, perhaps find a good place with people you trust and take the dog for several visits before he actually has to be left there.
Did you try Bach's Rescue Remedy? I've heard it works miracles... I bought some to use with Dancer for grooming, and honestly I didn't see any difference at all, but that may be just her. My sheepie seems to be the one nothing works on...LOL
Hi Shelly,

I am sorry it was so rough on poor Max. My vet has gave us medicine before when Jack and Annabelle ran through stickers and they had thier feet covered in them. We were supposed to give a full pill, but we put them in half and they slept through grooming. 8O I don't know if you could get to a vet and try a prescribed anxiety medicine. It is a thought anyway.
I hope the long drive home is better for him and you. THe beach does sound like fun. I hope he enjoys it. Good luck, Stormi and co.
