Donating to OES Rescues

I am seeking information on ways to donate to OES Rescues or a similar fund to aid OES's. Is there a central headquarters that offers information or are the rescues individually based in each state?

Thanks

There isn't a central rescue group of which all the rescues are a part.

There is a very large rescue called New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue, Inc. (NEOESR) based in Lincoln, Massachusetts. NEOESR is is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, and is probably the largest and the best funded of the rescue groups, and is financially very stable. If you are considering a very large or directed donation, NEOESR might be an appropriate recipient.

By way of disclosure, both my wife and I previously have been members of the Board of Directors of NEOESR.

There are many other GREAT smaller rescues who would LOVE a donation and it could really help make the difference in helping lots of dogs. If you want to make a tax-deductable donation, they will have to be registered 501(c)(3) corporations for the IRS to recognize your donation as tax-deductable.

I hope that some rescue organizations will pipe up here and tell you about their operation and ask you (and everyone) for money; this thread can stand as a resource for putting together a list of organizations who could use a few dollars.

Thank you so much for thinking about future sheepdogs in need!
We OESRNSE are a much smaller rescue always in need of funds. Please check our website out http://oesrescuenetwork.org/

Thank you, sue
The Old English Sheepdog Club of America has a rescue fund that helps reimburse local rescues for their costs. I'm sure they'd welcome a donation! See the OESCA website for the contact info on the National Rescue Chairman.

Tarheel OES rescue is based in North Carolina. Please feel free to check out our website for more information on the work we do. There is a link on the home page where you can make a donation via paypal. :)

Wherever you decide to contribute, thank you for helping needy sheepies!! :D

Thanks for info and please keep posting. Denver has become such a part of our family since my brothers passing, and my continual visiting of the OES website, I have come to realize this situation could have had disasterous results. As we have learned (and have come to love), an OES is not just a dog to take in. They are very special dogs with particular (if not peculiar) needs. However, I do see why many of these wonderful dogs end up neglected or in shelters. I have never had such a loyal companion that moves with me from room to room, offers himself so completely to try to please (unless he is in his stubborn mood) or is such a kind a loving soul be it with family, strangers, babies or the elderly. Denver has been with our family for 8 months now, and it took a good 6 months for both of us to learn about each other. I cannot imagine the repercussions of those who choose an OES puppy because they are soooo cute, not realizing they grow up to be large dogs with distinct personalities. With that being said, I want to obtain as much information on rescues or other situations that OES's can be helped. Thanks again.

I am also considering continuing Denver's Therapy Dog work. He is certified with Therapy Dog International and I have contacted them for information. If anyone has info on therapy "person" certification, please let me know.
Hi - I am an evaluator with TDI and have been a member for 20 years.
Have you checked out the website? It is www.tdi-dog.org . You may need to take Denver through an obedience class refresher - especially if you have not done it before. It can be a regular obedience class, or some areas have special therapy dog "prep" classes.

The website has the test items listed and described. You also can request a list of evaluators in your state. Our addresses/phone #/email are not listed on the website - you have to ask for it and the office will send it to you. There is also a page on the website listed by state of upcoming tests.

I hope you decide to pursue this - it is alot of fun and very rewarding. The people love a sheepdog too!
I just want to say how much I admire you for having taken Denver in and loved him and now wanting to help out other OES. It's funny the direction life takes, but you are certainly doing a great thing...
Doing therapy work with one of my Sheepies is so rewarding.
We have been doing this for about 4 years and both of us enjoy it so much. Sara C. is TDI certified and we visit Nursing homes and hospitals and the patients just love her. I dress her up with ribbons in her hair and everyones goes nuts over her.
I have another OES that I am training right now.
I would tell everyone, please try and see if your dog qualifies, this is a wonderful service to the seniors and the sick.
We also do the Reading Program, where children read to the dogs.
How nice of you to want to help dogs in need. My Guinness is a therapy dog. We are involved in an organization known as Pets on Wheels. My understanding is if you belong to TDI you cannot work with POW. It has to do with insurance. Pets On Wheels also does the reading program.
I got my sheepie from Old English Sheepdog Rescue of Florida. They are in South Florida. My cousin also got her sheepie from the same rescue agency.

Recently they had to get some blood transfusions for a puppy that surrendered. It cost them over $5000. If they have another sheepie that comes in with a medical condition, they will be in a world of trouble and possibly wiped away. They are asking for donations. They are great people and I'm sure every penny would help.
Thanks for the heads up. Do you have a link to their website?
Let me also put in a plug for Colorado OES Rescue http://www.oesrescueofcolorado.org/about.html

and Texas Rescue http://www.texasoesrescue.org/

and Pat Wolter in Arizona, but I don't know here tax status: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/AZ149.html

All three are hard working groups.
I don't believe they have a website. Their names are Steve & Candy Pridavka and they are in South Florida. Their contact information is found at http://www.oes.org/html/oes_rescue.shtml

Hopefully we can all help them out!!
Our fledgling rescue here in Indiana would be lost without the financial support of a family in another state. Whenever they see a dog in a shelter or in need of medical attention, they're always there to help. Everything from paying for grooming, spays, neuters, vaccinations or just "seed money" to keep us going. We are truly blessed to have these wonderful people helping us from behind the scenes.

Being a not-yet-501(c)3 organization, this assistance makes it possible for us to exist. If you hear of a particular dog in need, regardless of location, please consider donating toward his/her care.

Remember: all rescues still need volunteers for transportation, foster care and home visits. People can make a difference for a dog in need just by opening their hearts, if not their wallets.

Indiana-Midwest OES Rescue
Rescue was there for my dogs in our time of need. It was OES.org that lead the way. I was hooked up to NEOESR & Grannie Annie. They found great homes for four of my five dogs.

I promised her I would ask for donations for that organization, so I'M ASKING. :) They paid out a bundle for grooming, shots, spay, neuter, transportation, etc.........

After I parted with my dogs, Maggie McGee IV (INDIANA MID-WEST OES RESCUE) offered to share her dogs, Maggie and Nelson with me, so they became my "cyber babies." A donation to her organization, in "Maggies" memory would be nice. We had no OES rescue here in Indiana until she started this one.

Last, but not least, maybe Ron's OES.org could use a donation as well.
God bless.

Patch is a therapy dog here in Louisville - the joy she brings to those in need is unconditioned and plentiful. Pet therapy is a wonderful concept and helps so many.

Your post about taking in your brother's sheepie was heartfelt - thanks for caring for him. Enjoy your Denver for many years to come.
The perfect post. **Running to different lounge to delete old post.*** I had posted jsut earlier about any orgz to donate espc. if there was ones for sheepies and this post answered it. I don't how I didn't even notice this lounge! I must be blind!

Unfortuntaley the only help I can give now is finacial. But I just saw a suggestion about transportation.I could also help with that. So PM if ne1 randomly sees this and is need in transportation. I could help in the OH<WV<PA area

So I'm going to check out the links you all posted and see what I find.

I hopefully can make a large donation in the future. But hey, nething helps! And after the parvo scare I had it made me really worried about ppl who can't affod ER care either at vet ERs or for surgerys a loved animal might need. And I don't even want to think about how horrible that situation would be. Just want to hopefully help a person/family needing some help.

Please PM me with specific info./ case you might know of. Any animal-I'm a animal lover-espc. kitties! Sorry if I will ask a lot of QU's but I am guesing I will have to. I just noticed a post about possible scammers. How pppl can do that, I don't know. I got myslef in trouble with my dog for being to trusting but learned my lesson. I hope I'm not coming across rude! So please don't hesiate to PM if you have a specific need I might be able to finaciialy assist you with or know of a orgz. that would suited for me! Again, I am very nice lol-just want to actually help a person in need. BC I fortunately have a very generous mother who helped me in a time of need. I just want to return the favor to sum1 else. I just recently learned of the love a dog can give. I posted this in my post I'm delting. But I said earleir I never understood what was so great about dogs-that is-until I got one. And I just am love with sheepies!! Maybe bc I have one lol. but I swear we were made for each other! And I now am one of those infatuated dog people! Infatauted with a slobbery, hairy, messy sheepie dog :) And wouldn't ask for anything else. Thanks!
