Puppy Mill Legislation - Please read!

At last, the state's Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Dog Law
Enforcement have introduced regulations that could help put an end to
some of the inhumane practices considered "routine" at these
high-volume dog breeding facilities. The great news is, you don't have
to live in Pennsylvania to weigh in on this issue!

The ASPCA supports the proposed regulations and we'd love your help
moving them forward. If you've been looking for an opportunity to do
something about puppy mills, this is your chance!

What You Can Do
Take action now to support Pennsylvania's efforts to better regulate
this industry!

Please click below to be taken to our webpage on this issue. There you
will find a letter of support that you can print, sign and send to
Pennsylvania's Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement.

Thank you for your continued support of the ASPCA. Together, we can
really make a difference in the lives of these dogs!

I would like to point out tho that there is severe opposition to this and other similar "humane" laws that other states are attempting to inact from one powerful dog association.. we also need to put pressure on them if anything is to be done. If you read their legislative news logs you will see what i mean..

the AKC is lobbying against these measures.. pressure needs to be applied on not only the lawmakers.. but against the akc.. how many are willing to take them on? I mean if the largest dog club in america says dont do it.. who you think the law makers going to listen to.. regular folk.. or the "big boys"?

I will be sending my letter to BOTH agencies me thinks. =)
Me, too! I will be sending letters to both agencies and anyone else I can think of.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention:)
Why would the AKC be against this? I would have thought they would be pro acting for it...no one wants to add to the already over population of unwanted and neglected pets...I will send a letter to both places as well. I've been known to take on "missions" before

For Abbey and Elliot and all those other poor puppies out there who are treated with such neglect...let's do it :D :D
Ashley, the AKC makes millions off of the big commercial puppy millers. Puppies bred by the commercial breeders and provided to retail stores always come with AKC papers. I know you're upset about the Abby and Elliott situation, but that's just one backyard breeder. The partnership of the AKC and the large commercial breeders puts far more ill, badly bred puppies out into the world, and keeps the rescue people far too busy.

I think this was discussed awhile back on this forum. Something like.... a very high percentage of dogs registered with the AKC are puppy-mill dogs, so the registration of puppy-mill dogs is a large percentage of their annual income.....

Maybe someone remembers that discussion....?
http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?article_id=3104

is the link to their news article where they ask people to help defeat it..

I keep track of things like this and the AKC is one of the single largest lobbiers against all forms of humane reform in all states..

as for motive against.. one only has to ask where their largest soruce of revenue comes from.. of corse they dont want to loose that.. puppy mills.. in order to combat puppy mills properly.. the AKC & UKC have to stop registering their dogs.. its the akc and ukc that need to be lobbied to reform... reform those 2 and we would have a great tool to get the states to reform..

thats the kicker.. the "offical" dog clubs are supporting the bad guys by lobbying against reform and supporting the problem.. the ASPCA is left to look like nazi activists.. its a tough fight that needs to start club level tbh..

=/
Yes, that's it - thanks Bailey's mom!
